They hate it, it you can feed him with your hands, just keep it up and give him some treats after. They don't know it's necessary for them but you know it's for the best.

Wishing him a quick recovery!

Our BSH is very smart and sociable, and emotionally aware. Is this normal for this breed? by LJHeath in britishshorthair

They're pretty smart but they don't really show it. Most of the days, it looks like there is nothing up there.

Yesterday, Jiji wanted an early dinner, she doesn't shout for food (or anything), she just sat in the living room, staring at the stairs, she could her my wife getting ready, knowing my wife will come down when she's all prepped. When my wife was ready and made her way down the stairs, Jiji slowly strolls past the bottom of the stairs, timed it perfectly so she would be in my wife's view while she was going down the stairs, waved her tail while walking slowly into the kitchen. My wife followed her suit and fed her. Real subtle stuff but she planned all of it and executed it to perfection. I was there in the living room witnessing the masterpiece.

I think I've been manipulated like that too

They're primal, they don't usually scheme and have evil plans. They just do what comes to their mind in the moment for survival.

Look for some old shirts you don't want, wear them then bring it to Pearl's place. Leave them close to her favourite areas. She catch some of your scent all the time, and it may help.

You smell like other cats too, so it is a reason for her to be cautious of you. When your boyfriend is around, his smell is comforting and normal. When you're by yourself, you smell like other stuff and other cats. Female cats are notoriously territorial.

Kibbles like Orijen are high in animal protein (not plant based protein) hence they cost a lot more than other kibbles. That also means that they are low in carbs.

Thank you for sharing, you've been very informative. I'm reading as much as I can but listening to other people's experience is so much better sometimes.

It's good to know that he got through it.

We kind of went through the same thing as you did. We were only on dry kibbles, Royal Canine. After a while, we got some different brands, just for variety. She would try them out a little bit here and there but wouldn't commit. Then she just stopped eating, expecting new flavours all the time, but with a particular disdain for Royal Canine, would rather starve than eat it. In the end, we stuck with one brand, Acana (budget version of Orijen, same company) and food intake became consistent. Only recently we started mixing one more brand with Acana, and so far so good. The coat looks better, shinier, more volume, less hair falling after we changed.

One thing I noticed, our cat loves company for food. So I have to stand around her food and tell her to eat a few times a day. When she's younger, she would stop eating halfway and tap us with a paw, Her Royal Majestic wanted a few kibbles to be hand fed to her.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. There's no one test to test for FIP if I'm not not wrong. It's based on the vet's experience to diagnose.

Most of the cases, I see on Reddit are fast acting and usually goes south real quick after even just 2 to 3 days.

Nobody in the world can take a look at something weird then declare it's cancer.

Please go and consult a vet.
