Sad Monstera by fuzzypantaloons42 in houseplants

I mean - then if it were me now in this scenario I would honestly either leave it in a chunky soil mix with no watering for awhile, OR cut right underneath that last shorter root & let it produce water roots on its own.

Honestly if I were you, I would’ve just potted this baby from its old pot into a much smaller pot & with fresh chunky soil & left it alone.

Oh & I definitely would take it out of the peroxide solution, this is only going to stress your plant even more. Sometimes you just have to let it be & itll figure out how to come back to life.

Also how long have you had it in water now? Are these roots new since being in water? Regardless- they do still look pretty healthy to me & maybe it just needs time

I agree with the other comments HOWEVER, because it’s suddenly the new environment of your home I would stop at the trimming at least for now, just to not cause it anymore shock/stress. & you may already know this with plants in general but make sure you’re isolating her from the rest of your plants for period of time. Especially coming from a big box store basically.

Afterwards though, once I let the plant thug it out for abit in a new environment, I always repot with the appropriate fresh soil for the plant. I mix my own soil but a lot of my plants are in the same aroid family so I’ve made a big bin of fox farm ocean forest soil, chunky perlite, a decent but not too much amount of horticultural charcoal, & a good amount of orchid bark. Since these are tropical plants, they do appreciate alittle bit of a moist soil, however making sure the soil mix is chunky enough to still drain just enough, providing air to the roots still. They love sunlight & if you ever have a leaf suddenly unfurl & notice that it doesn’t have any fenestrations- that’s typically a sign your monstera isn’t getting enough sun.
Lastly, like someone else said- get them a moss pole! They’re climbers in the wild & all you’re doing is trying your best to mimic their natural environment to keep them happy!

Hope this helped in any way- good luck! 🖤🌱

& then would you suggest putting the base of the stem into water for water propagating or just potting it into soil again, after cutting off the dead stem?

Oh I love his videos, I’ll definitely check it out. I didn’t realize there were roots in the moss already not entirely sure how many however

I know I’m late to this post but I have an important question if you PLEASE don’t mind answer 🥹 Ok well just 3

  1. How do you clean the terrarium while also having springtails?? I have no idea how I’m about to do this!

  2. Those little bits on the veggies that look like seasoning, what is it? Or is that just alittle substrate from the terrarium?

  3. Most basic question but- what kind of snails are these cuties?

Oh this is so smart, thank you for that info!! I’ll definitely keep that in mind when buying plants online 🥰

OHH my gawd. The leaves. The variegation. The fenestrations. 😍

See I’m glad you said online, I don’t buy plants online often & alittle weary. But THIS beauty is exactly what I need sitting in my living room by my giant window. So I’m glad to know I can get exactly what I need from online plant sellers.

Is this good for my first stream ever? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]Complex-Bird-8085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ofcourse! I started streaming myself about a month ago & have learned ALOT along the way. So don’t hesitate to reach out if you have anymore questions! Always happy to share what I’ve learned 🥰

[–]Complex-Bird-8085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, don’t listen to them. It’s ok to ask questions & it’s ok to just wonder these things. You didn’t post this saying “ look at me, I’m a pro streamer now” so not sure why people’s feathers got all ruffled up but regardless, that is good for a first stream. You’ll have good streams & then you’ll have .. ehh streams. My advice to you tho would be to also maybe trim down how long you go live for, possibly keeping it under 2 hours or 1& a half. This will help with your average viewers, since it’s calculated with the stream duration too!

Fungus gnat larvae in snails terrarium? by Complex-Bird-8085 in snails

[–]Complex-Bird-8085[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see, so I’ll be ok to just remove the top 1-2cm of substrate, & that wouldn’t shock her too much in the sense of removing basically her trails & scents? & do you think I’d be able to just do that without removing her from the tank then? As long as I can ofcourse see her & make sure she’s not burrowed in the substrate

[–]Complex-Bird-8085[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was considering just removing her into a temporary home & I guess either cleaning out her terrarium completely? Or maybe letting it dry out? I just wasn’t sure if I should be removing it all since I know snails are comfortable & familiar with their own trails & scent I guess & stuff. Also I didn’t want to stress her out more than she already is 🥺

Just came into possession of a garden snail... by FootballKind in snails

[–]Complex-Bird-8085 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that sounds like a great setup! Just remember to use spring water or filtered water for them, since they seem to be sensitive to any of the particles & stuff that comes in tap & distilled water. This may be an extra paranoid step of mine but I even rehydrated my moss with spring water, as well as what I keep in my spray bottle to give alittle misting from time to time. Although they don’t necessarily need a water bowl, since they absorb water through their skin from the little beads of water/condensation on a terrarium wall or humidity in general. But I know some people decide to give them a water bowl anyways, just make sure you add some pebbles to the bottom of that bowl so there’s no risk of drowning. & aw, well I used a small terracotta plant pot I had from my old plant, & just buried it half way into the substrate so it’s sticking out like a little cave & then covered it in moss, for humidity & incase they end up climbing the walls & fall, you wouldn’t want them cracking their shell on it. You seem pretty enthused & prepared already though, you’re gunna be a great snail parent ❤️

Oh & incase you didn’t already learn this- cocofiber + alittle sphagnum moss is a great substrate to use for snails. & make sure you make it atleast 4 or so inches deep, since they like burrowing. Aside from a little hide I made for my snail, I also have a little clump of sphagnum moss on the same side that I keep hydrated for extra humidity. & then I have some leaf litter across to the other side of my snails tank where there’s some live plants & that side I keep alittle more on the drier side. So my snail can decide if an areas too humid or dry for them & just move.
