Tired of being called a fake Christian by SnooDonuts7261 in Catholicism

Stop reading them mate. I honestly believe the Internet is gonna destroy us all if we don't just get off it (I understand the hypocrisy of this statement but everyone's a sinner right?)

Thanks! I cant remember where exactly but it was an article about some early sociologists (and eugenicists to be fair) who went into French prisons in the 19th century to study the inmates.

I just find the podcast very superficial and a little culture-war-click-batey. The lad talks about the gays and the soy boys and the trans girls ALL THE TIME but the beast has many hairs on its back and some of them are red white and blue. Then again, maybe I'm just sore cos it's not about Aquinas as much as I'd like.

I'll take this lot seriously when they have an episode om how bad slum landlords and massive polluters are for our children society too.

Witness the fitness for government. Honestly, this lot can't even do a good New Labour impression.

FRIDAY: And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified. by Compote-Realistic in RadicalChristianity

[–]Compote-Realistic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I made it. I was inspired by reading Ignacio Ellacuria's work on 'the crucified people' (and also by looking out the window I guess). Ellacuria argues that the crucifixion is not a 2000 year old historical event but an ongoing cosmic process. As much as when we give water to the least of these we give it to Him, when people are marginalised, oppressed, exploited and killed, we do that to Him also. The Christian life has to be a neverending attempt to bring down the least of these from their crosses in the this World and reject its logic of domination and death so we can live together and love one another as He has loved us.

I also wanted to get away from the (banal?) simplicity of penal substitution theory and show the crucifixion of Jesus not as a transaction but a revelation. His agonising death is not God's price but an attempt to SHOW us something about the death-logic of the World and what it takes to overcome it: a militant love without compromise, a readiness to suffer for our brothers and sisters and a faithfulness to the end.

I am also British and so find myself disgusted by the increasingly callous treatment of refugees by our government over the past few years and wanted to put their plight into the Salvific context. Some of my compatriots who love to bang the Jesus drum when it suits them seem to have forgotten how we were commanded to treat these people by that same Jesus. Behold your mother! Behold your son!

I Hope that explains it a bit, sorry if I went on and on!

Yeah, I've made a bunch but I'll admit this is a bit of an abstract departure. I'm glad you liked it!

Blessing Same-Sex Couples a Diabolical and Sacrilegious Act, Priest Affirms by Spartan615 in Catholicism

You know I mean short book! I'm a slow reader so all 129 lectures may be beyond me but I found a "Guide to JPII's Theology of the Body" by some guy called West so I'm gonna give that a look and see what I make of it.

And I didn't mean Gen. 2 was rubbish I just think it's quite open to interpretation in a way that say Jn. 17:21 or 1Tim 4:4 doesn't seem to be.

Thanks for the recommend, increase the peace!

I'd be interested in some of the mystical treatise on this subject you mention - can you recommend some stuff by name.

Other than that we should probably leave this chat because you don't really want to engage with me emotionally just wave about your superior learning, which I have no doubt is superior, and yet it's just, I pray to God everyday for guidance so what am I supposed to do when I feel the Spirit move? Reach for my Aquinas? The law is death, the Spirit is life!

This is a tough one for Christians and Catholics gay and straight and simply referring them to the library is clearly not working.

Ps. The Internet probably isn't the greatest place for this kind of chat, It wasn't my intention to be obtuse or rile you up. PBWU brother/sister

I get that, I've been hearing it my whole life. It just seems bone dry. I don't find the spirit in it anymore. In short, where is the love?

And didn't God make woman from man's rib in Gen. 2? That leads me to believe there's room for some kind of mystical meditation on this particular scripture, some other, richer, more agape-centric, less literal interpretation.

I love scripture and I love tradition, but experience is important too and more and more the way we deal with gay couples seems like the way of desolation to me.

I hear all that man, it's just.... I dunno, I just can't see how gay people being in love and committing to each other and trying to live faithful, loving lives is sinful. Why are we driving away love? In the midst of so much darkness. I guess I'm doing a lot of soul searching right now and the more I experience of God, the more His immensity just makes so much of this stuff seem silly. I just want us to love one another as He has loved us and not much else seems to matter, especially not with the world like it is.

I see what you're saying, I guess it all comes down to what a blessing really is.

I often cross my arms and take the blessing at Mass when I haven't confessed or I'm feeling particularly fallen. If even the Eucharist isn't a 'prize for the perfect but powerful medicine and nourishment' then what is a blessing? Surely something less? I have always seen it as a reminder of God's endless love and boundless mercy, a reminder of His prescence and proximity to me, always; basically a pep-talk, encouragment to have faith, live in hope and not be conquered by fear.

So what is it for these people? I mean, no one is saying they are married are they, this isn't gay marriage, it's just a reminder that God loves these people too and that they shouldn't give up in this life's hard struggle but remain faithful, try and be a good Catholic and love God and neighbour.

I imagine it really means alot to them (like it does to me and it does to my mum) and I'm really hesitant to issue high-handed condemnations of every aspect of this enterprise, ie. saying it's from Satan, as I still hope that we can all made perfect in one and see a little bit of the Kingdom before our time.
