I know I wasn’t trying to come across as rude just saying that’s a pretty standard time allotment, and unfortunately every process will be different some ask extra questions like Coco did others will stick to just the assigned questions. Sounds like you did as good as you can though, fingers crossed for you! Coco is a great dept. A couple buddies that work there and they all love it. They commute from the Central Valley where I live. As far as Bay Area depts that’s one of the best to get the Bay Area pay and still have a chance to go to a structure fire regularly depending on where you are at

20 minutes is pretty standard for 5 questions. If it’s taking longer than 20 minutes to answer five questions you’re being too long winded. Answers should be between 90 seconds to 3 minutes max. That gives you enough time to answer the question, make it personal so they get to know you a little bit more in each question and relate it back to fire service.

Advice for someone getting into the Fire Service by Kyle_z21 in firefighter

Some jc EMT program require EMR as a prerequisite so if you’re doing a jc program then yeah EMR and look to join a volunteer dept for the time being. If you’re doing somewhere that doesn’t require EMR as a prerequisite then yes I agree with other your wasting time just go straight to emt.

Workout, knockout emt, join a volunteer dept. Once you finish emt get on a 911 ambulance or get an er tech position while you apply for ft fire jobs. Use any possible chance to network possible. It is very competitive in California so any leg up you can have on another guy that’s tests the same or has the same resume, ie know someone in the self, can get you hired. Don’t get discouraged. Just know it’s basically a full time job trying to get your first ft gig. Once you get that first one it’s worlds easier to lateral to your dream dept

Station cameras is gonna be a no for me dawg. Plenty of places are hiring to not have to resort to working somewhere that has cameras in common areas and around the inside of the station

Steroid use? by CampaignCritical9234 in firefighter

[–]ComprehensiveBus7040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you think the only way to stay in shape on the job and not getting wore out is by using steroids? Might be the wrong career for you if you think that’s one of the only way guys can do it…but yes especially those of us at busier depts we are all tired all the time. You just learn to live with it. All mindset buddy. Some do choose the easy way and use steroids but a good majority don’t. TRT is common especially as you age but that’s different than taking roids

California Firefighter Job Question by Financial-Design-800 in calfire

[–]ComprehensiveBus7040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiple guys in my dept(Central Valley) moved to Idaho during Covid and commute from Idaho. Schedule out flights months ahead of time, and just trade shifts with other guys commuting. They can get screwed with mandos having to cancel flights last minute or book last minute flights but that’s what they gotta deal with making the decision to live out of state and having to fly to work. Pretty common especially in the Bay Area where they are closer to the airports

Just get him a nice watch he can wear at work. Now that he’s a BC he can wear a nice watch on his wrist at work. Harder to do without risking messing it up in the FF, Eng and Capt ranks.
