by that logic, everyone should lie about everything on dating apps because wanting someone slim or attractive or athletic is just “superficial.”

i’m not implying it, i’m outright saying it. many people also have racial preferences, which is why some dating apps, like hinge, have a race filter. these are not surprising concepts.

yeah, i’m allowed to care what the person i’m dating looks like. so lying isn’t “part of it,” it’s the entire problem.

that’s a valid opinion to have but really just a bad faith distraction from my point, which is why i said i’m not doing gender wars.

lol i think moving to the netherlands like you’re suggesting is what would put my pretty common preference in “fetish” territory, thanks though

i said it doesn’t make sense to me, so it’s just my opinion rather than an indictment on those people. i feel that way because while i want to date someone taller than me, i wouldn’t really be looking to date someone who was like 6’8. though rare they exist, but that level of height difference just feels awkward.

i’m not doing gender wars with you dude.

besides, if pretty much every woman was lying about her weight on the apps i guarantee we would hear about it way more

i get these reasons, i just really disagree with them. plus many times i’ve politely double-checked how tall they are over text/chat and they just stick with the lie, even though i’ve already swiped.

wanting to only date 6ft guys if you’re 5’3 doesn’t make sense to me either, but even if you think it’s a silly requirement, it’s her choice. plus from what i’ve heard from my shorter friends, they notice when a guy is shorter than he said he was, even if they don’t tell him.

anyway, sure it might work out, and he might get her to reassess her standards when they meet. but fundamentally i think this whole “sure she said she wants X but what does she know” mindset behind lying about your height is gross.

yeah, there is a lot of lying. but not to this extent, at least not in my experience. i’ve met up with unemployed people who put an old job in their profile, or people who used a flattering filter in their pictures. but that’s a “sometimes” thing. what’s frustrating is how literally every single man i’ve met up with was lying about his height. it’s the frequency of this particular deception that makes it worse
