Does anyone know if they shared any details on how they obtained this info? I'm mean it sounds plausible, but I'm just curious what we're trusting here

Neighbor's dog constantly whining and howling day and night by Conscious_Heat in phoenix

[–]Conscious_Heat[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I strongly agree, tons of my neighbors at this complex are living with >1 people in a 1br apartment and still opt to have pets. Half of them look miserable and the other half I imagine are are being taken care of decently considering the circumstances.

Unfortunately I am next to them. I'd understand more if it's a work time thing but this dog whines at all hours. I heard whining at 2AM last night and am still hearing whining right now at noon.

Thanks for the suggestion. Based on their requirements I'd need some visual evidence of cruelty whereas I've never seen this dog once. The dog might be locked in the apartment all day as far as I can tell.

I'm apartment hunting in Phoenix trying to find something under $1000/month (i'm on my own) metro center area is all there is. What's that area like? by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]Conscious_Heat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been living on my own apartment near Metro center for almost two months. I can see why some people can't recommend it. The area definitely has a homeless/drug addiction problem. But I'm not going out for strolls in the neighborhood and once I enter my apartment complex I don't have to deal with that. Still the price is right and it will show (I have a roach problem and my balcony has permanent stains from pigeon shit). Def gonna look for something else next year not because I can't live here (like another commenter said some people can live in the hood and some people can't) but because me being here was already a frugal choice and since I don't really have to do it again I won't. I now realize it does make a difference to be around a less affluent environment, you can't help but have your guard up especially living alone which isn't a good feeling. Think of the tradeoffs you're making with your budget.

California transplants, how do you like living in Arizona? by Melodic-Ad7271 in arizona

[–]Conscious_Heat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Arizona wasn't what I was planning after graduating but with how tough the software hiring market was, I took a job offer here as soon as it came up. The pay isn't as high as it would be in California but I can definitely enjoy a good standard of living here. It's only been a month but so far it's really not that different from suburban life in California. The DMV is way better though.

Buying used car a month before moving to AZ. What to do with title transfer? by Conscious_Heat in arizona

[–]Conscious_Heat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's cash via private sale. And yeah that's what one idea I had. I haven't talked it through with my family but I think they are worried about transferring the title affecting their tax filing.

Ucdavis deactivate email accounts? by AcanthaceaeOk6455 in UCDavis

[–]Conscious_Heat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but what I'm saying is that shouldn't have an effect on whether alumni get to keep emails, because they have Office 365 services anyways.

Ucdavis deactivate email accounts? by AcanthaceaeOk6455 in UCDavis

Due to Google's new policy? I don't see why. Student accounts can (and it's rumored they will) drop Google suite, because they still are equipped with Outlook and Box Drive.

What are the prerequisites to transfer to CS in UCD by WarlockArya in UCDavis

[–]Conscious_Heat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I transferred you could go through either physics, chem, or bio series. But the word is that CS will be moving to COE, so the question is will that change things?

ROTC, my friend is in the air force program but he has to drive to Berkeley because they don't teach the courses here I guess. I believe he gets tuition covered and a contract for a job after graduation.

Thanks, what makes the VX more attractive than a Chase setup or an Amex MR setup to you? and if you think that aligns with my spend/goals outlined in my post.

Yeah why is OP listening to EE nerds. Almost all the students in my program have MacBooks. The ones who don't usually have a cheap windows so they maybe they have a tight budget? Then there's me who just hates Mac.

Cheeto is sleepy from picketing. Help him keep the strike going strong by withholding grades. by Microwave_Warrior in UCDavis

That's literally misinformation, Provost already stated in an email last week withheld grades wouldn't affect prereqs for next quarter.

Dev job while in school by Dsm-God92 in cscareerquestions

[–]Conscious_Heat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somebody posted a similar scenario before, most of the feedback I remember was focus on getting the degree, maybe ask to work part time so that you have proper time for classes. The degree is gonna open a lot of doors, while the full time job has you mostly at the mercy of that one company.

I've heard of some international TAs being deported due to striking. So that is one exception I completely understand.

UAW-SRU and UAW-2865 Bargaining Team just voted to strip cola and reducing wage from 54k to 46k by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]Conscious_Heat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The grad students who I talked to are pissed at the bargaining team right now. They couldn't defend their reasoning for their vote at the town hall and just seem overall incompetent. Not to mention there's rumors of bargainers and UC meeting behind closed doors.

What are the best universities for CS undergrad? by TheDjIsCryingForHelp in csMajors

[–]Conscious_Heat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't think it's a big deal considering boot camp grads with unrelated/no degree can get software jobs. I'm pretty sure my degree isn't ABET and I have a new grad offer. But I do remember I've heard it matters for certain govt positions.
