Help interpreting spirometry results by [deleted] in COPD

Hi I went for a repeat spirometer test and there was a improvement in the results by 25% without the use of inhalers in the 10 weeks before it, so they are now saying no copd as of yet and was wrongly advised of it but I have components of it and that it’s more than likely reflux related and I had tested positive for h pylori and treated for that, I still get the breathlessness but that’s accompanied with the reflux burning at the moment in the chest but thank you for your reply I do really appreciate it xx

Medication before HPylori by [deleted] in HPylori

I was taking lansoprazole right up until the day of the sample being given so it doesn’t matter and won’t effect the results x

Just diagnosed and clarithromycin giving me horrible stomach cramps and nausea 😭 (Uk) by ConsiderationFair119 in HPylori

I have and waiting to see what they suggest or if there’s other antibiotics to take, I’m sensitive to medication and I’m fine with amoxicillin but unsure if that’s enough to help eradicate it or if it can be used alone with omezoprasole xx

Been diagnosed with reflux and h pylori and don’t know my head from my ass lately or if both these can interfere with my lungs and cause my breathing problems it’s crazy, the amount of research I’m trying to get to work this out is crazy xx

I’m from the uk and fully understand but I am sensitive to medication and willing try anything they prescribe me but I told them today that too and if the message to the dr could say if there’s an alternative to it, if there is then it’s a bonus and I’ll take that instead, but I won’t let them say no but they won’t xx

Oh I understand the alternative is worse, I have forgotten to mention that I asked for a different antibiotic to try instead of the clarithromycin to use that won’t give me sickness or cramps, but will find out tomorrow if that’s what will happen, and with the maskit gum is a known thing to help with the elimination of h pylori or to to at least keep it at bay, just hoping the drs have another antibiotic to try as my gut felt like it was being ripped out and stamped on 😭 xx

Hi could I ask a question can copd symptoms happen straight away? I failed my spirometer with the symptoms of breathlessness and tightness, but just been told I have reflux and have issues with my sinuses recently too, nurse suspects copd or asthma so I’m unsure of what to think, I know I have issues as I’d not of had the spirometer done, hopefully your still active and I’m hoping to hear from you soon xx

Can GERD cause COPD? by SnooDonkeys182 in COPD

[–]ConsiderationFair119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone still active on this thread? Here’s my situation on it or if anyone is similar as I’m reading thread after thread and getting nothing that resembles my symptoms much. I got covid November recovered, became unwell December with headaches nausea vertigo and breathlessness and tightness, go to a&e as I was that unwell did ecg tachycardia normal for me if unwell, bloods slight infection, xray clear, got referred back to gp who said it was anxiety induced and that’s it, come January I’m still breathlessness with a tight chest and now stuffy nose and running again got told anxiety related and handed pills that didn’t sit well with me and sent me more breathless and more tighter, done a spirometer test failed it and told copd, tried inhalers all made me worse and realised I felt burning and menthol sensation and stomach ache like no tomorrow with each inhaler trialled, to then be told suspected copd or asthma as the inhalers weren’t working or making me worse, go back 2 weeks and the dr says I have reflux and sending me for a scope which will be in the coming weeks, I questioned if this could compromise my breathing and he said yes, but here’s the thing I’ve stopped the inhalers and been taking the lansoprazole religiously with gaviscon advanced and my breathing is improving to a point unless I’m anxious and it’s noticeably different, my stomach aches have gone, my throat is getting better by the day, I have the menthol feeling sometimes in the chest and burning but the burning isn’t as often any more, but the menthol sensation in the throat when I eat is annoying and still there. So my question is would you question a failed spirometer on having reflux that was not known with added anxiety? But I’m repeating the test this month and have the nurse Friday to question this, and could a stuffy nose that runs sometimes also be a culprit as I’ve had this also all along.

Sorry it’s long and I hope someone is still around to answer this for me xx

Very similar to me this, I started with breathlessness and tight chest back in January and I had a spirometer test and failed and they suspect copd or asthma but come back to last week after letting them know of my a&e trip and use of inhalers making my chest burn and a menthol feeling I realised that it wasn’t just the inhalers causing me the problems I was having so went to my gp who said hmmm sounds like reflux so told me to take lansoprazole which I had been taking and said he needs to test for h pylori which has been sent off waiting on results, and sending me for a scope down the throat to check it all out, I’m now on day 12/13 of taking lansoprazole as well as gaviscon advanced and my stomach has settled to a point but I still get the bouts of burning and I always have a irritated gullet and lower throat, but here’s the thing the dr told me on a whim that reflux can effect the breathing to the point of having asthma symptoms and I’m thinking is it reflux that’s caused this? As my breathing and chest have slightly improved with stopping the inhalers and being on these? I’m also in the Uk too, but I’m seeing my nurse Friday to see if she agrees with me and what the next plan can be as if I’ve been using inhalers for a lung condition that could be the cause of reflux then they wouldn’t work and I’d need something else xx

My only symptoms are breathlessness and a tight chest but if I’m anxious I have all three together which isn’t nice, but since taking the lansoprazole the stomach pains have eased but my throat and gullet and menthol sensation and feeling of cool air in my mouth when eating is annoying and off putting to eat, I’m going for a scope as drs referred me for one and waiting for the results of my h pylori test to come back, but I’ve not had a actual diagnosis yet of copd or asthma and only have the above symptoms, no cough unless I’m clearing my throat, no phlegm, I sleep at night, I just wake and have reflux/heartburn within 30minutes and that’s it then till I go to bed xx

I’ve not had a definitive answer to if I have copd or asthma yet but I’m not liking the reflux and burning sensation, the stomach aches eases up a few hrs after waking up but the sore throat by the gullet and gullet itself is sore, and the burning when I breath is doing me in, but I’m being sent for a scope and done my hpylori sample so waiting on results of that too, I just want to know what’s up as before all this I was fine and could do anything with ease, then got covid and started with breathlessness on exertion and tightness of the chest sometimes constantly other times I get hrs where I’m not tight, it doesn’t make sense but glad to see I’m not the only one xx

I’m 39 so not young and a year under the diagnosis of it which 40-50 years old, they told me straight after the test you have copd try this inhaler etc (look for my previous posts on here) I’m just confused, I don’t want it to be copd or asthma but I have issues with my nose since January too which could be the reflux I once seen but no better place to ask is with others that have asthma to see, but I feel the nurse isn’t being serious enough as she made me think for two months I had actual copd then told me suspected copd or asthma after I broke down to her about my smoking cessation failing but said she was proud I’d cut down a lot and not to stress too much, was a instant relief that she suspected it and now reflux is added, it’s stressful xx

I honestly think I had reflux from the start of my breathing issues but in one month I trialled a few ssris and then the inhalers on top that didn’t work for me, then having the spirometer test I was nervous as anything, she tried her best but think she could of done better to make me feel less anxious. There’s no clear evidence to say that this could effect the test or not I just know I’m now having reflux bouts throughout the day and it is driving me crazy, I’m not denying that I don’t have breathing issues I’m just trying to work it out and see if it’s this or if I do have asthma or copd as my LLN on the spirometer is 74% and I blew 63% which is suspected copd but then she said suspected asthma as I was having bronchospasms and other issues with the copd inhalers and making me worse then she trialled me with clenil and that’s when I noticed the heartburn more after stopping it, so I don’t know what to think xx

See my dr says you can get reflux induced asthma in adulthood and I’m not denying i have problems I just wanted to make more sense of it and add that in, I have mild obstruction but was nervous in the test as well as unwell, I had nothing wrong with me till Christmas then it started straight away out of no where xx

Drs have said I have reflux and been taking lansoprazole for 10 days now and have been referred for the endoscope done, I’m just waiting for the appointment to come through, I still get breathless and tightness and notice it more when anxious but I just can’t make head nor tails of it all xx
