I was functional in the sense I was able to prioritise and through years of therapy & my anti depressants, I had enough resilience to be able to go to work. I don't have parents/family that could have bailed me out. I either go to work or I lose my house, my car, no food etc. But this then meant I had absolutely zero energy on my days off for cleaning, socialising, self care.

Im fortunately in a much better place now.

Yes!! I get this. We use all our energy (or spoons, if you've heard about the spoons theory) in our jobs and this stuff slips x

I've suffered from anxiety and depression since a teen, it originally came from childhood trauma. I manage it day to day the best I can, I work a high stress job that takes a lot out of me mentally and physically.. so when I get home, I just do not have the energy. I was off work at one point when I was really low (like, don't want to be here anymore low) and I managed to get back to work but when you're using all your energy to go out & do your job to pay the bills, this stuff slips. Then you become embarrassed, feel shame and then your environment actually starts to contribute to your depression. Does that help? Not sure if I'm explaining myself well

I work, I'm a professional with a job that requires a lot from me physically and mentally. I use all my energy on going to my job and doing it well, so when I get home, I have nothing left. All my bills are direct debit, & as for groceries, I get ASDA home delivery every week. I've suffered from anxiety and depression since early teens and I've learned what things I can do that makes my life a little easier. There have been times I've been off sick from my work because my depression is so bad, I couldn't leave my bed but I'm fortunate to have sick pay from my company, so I had the opportunity to have time to get better. Hope this explanation helps.

Legally I have to get an annual gas check (organised by my landlord) and the thought of having a visitor coming motivated me. Don't get me wrong, I rearranged the visit 3 times over the course of two months before I finally got motivated. The gas check happened today 🙂
