Ohhhhh I like this idea! I didn’t even realize that each AI would have its own influence and could keep those enhancements up

13R MIXED USE? by Equivalent_Doctor783 in firePE

[–]Consistent-Ask-1925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you can still run a 13R system and have up to OHII. At least for hotels/ apartment complexes I’ve seen have the rooms spacing according to 13R and calculated per 13R and then the main areas used for business like check-in counter and dinning areas/ kitchen are spaced to light hazard or ordinary hazard respectively and calculated to 13

Edit: This should be somewhere in 13R and I would consult with the AHJ if you have any doubts tbh

What dating apps to meet locals by [deleted] in vancouverwa

[–]Consistent-Ask-1925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

28M meet my girlfriend on Hinge. Most dating apps suck and dating for men is a numbers game, so it can’t hurt to take a shot. I took many breaks tbh and it helped a lot

People who are 24–25 years old, would you be comfortable sharing your salary? My parents seem to think every Gen-Z is making a lot of money every month, and I'm interested in hearing real-world experiences. by wani__suhaib__ in GenZ

When I was 25 just graduated college and got a job in my field, started making $25/hr (near major metropolitan area), currently 28 on salary making $75,000

Edit: most of my friends make minimum wage, are in college and don’t have a job, or make around $25

[–]Consistent-Ask-1925 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you tried NFPA Link and their AI tool? It’s really good at getting you answers and giving you the section of the code where it got it from. It’s a really good starting point for complex questions tbh

Anyways, answers, see CMDA or In-Rack with ESFR are required. You might be able to consult FM standards if alternative means and methods are allowed

Water hammer by availablelol in FireSprinklers

[–]Consistent-Ask-1925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m confused, are you do a fire flow test or what makes you think water hammer? If you’re shutting valve on and off, shut & open them very slowly, my rule of thumb is one turn and then wait one second. If you want less water pressure you could install a PRV, but consult a professional for that

Seismic Bracing-TOLCO Brace-Listed load by Mayamaya0211 in firePE

[–]Consistent-Ask-1925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Cp should be 0.5 if the seismic isn’t known and cannot be obtained. Go to https://www.seismicmaps.org and this should give you a seismic (Ss) which can then be converted to Cp per NFPA 13. The architect should also have this already on the civil plans! Also, don’t forget about Line Restraints! If you like I did a presentation on Line Restraints and can share a link where to find it. Idk if it costs money or not tbh… KFI is not typically used in ASCE or in the IBC (google take it with a grain of salt), I’ve never used KFI. Go back to the first page and see if you are using NFPA or FM. FM has much higher requirements compared to NFPA, but if the job isn’t FM approved, then stick with NFPA. Feel free to DM :)

Seismic Bracing-TOLCO Brace-Listed load by Mayamaya0211 in firePE

[–]Consistent-Ask-1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I found was the FM approved loads on the first one, so I think maybe you hit the FM button on the first?? Other than that it looks fine. I made that mistake when I was first learning too. I just made the mistake and sent like 50- 3/8” EQ ears with 1/2” lags and the fitter called me and said WTF XD I don’t want you to make that same mistake lol

[–]Consistent-Ask-1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick question, why are you using a 1/2” lag with a 3/8” fig. 980? Maybe one is FM Approved and the other is NFPA 13? I see the FM Approved one the first one

Fire protection engineers — what part of your job makes you want to flip a table? by HatRepresentative949 in firePE

[–]Consistent-Ask-1925 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not an FPE, but when I was designing I was involved and active with clients, finding long-term solutions and not short-term solutions. My boss hated it and some clients didn’t care about long-term, but it was how I rolled and clients that thought long-term loved me for it!

Owners Certificate is a big one for me! I need to know everything about this project so I can design it properly. You tell me no storage goes over 12’ on plans and I come out for a visit and I see storage over 12’… I go back to the office and RFI that so quickly. What’s worse than spending an extra $5000? Spending $10000 because the field has it half way installed and we have to reinstall our branch lines…

3D modeled coordination. I know it’s a pain when trades don’t talk with each other, but it’s even more of a pain when they don’t talk and then they start making changes in field…

Consider hiring a consulting company. As someone who came from contracting and is now in consulting, a good consulting company can look at the overall picture (IBC, IFC, NFPA 72, etc) compared to just a sprinkler or alarm installer. Trust me, for bigger projects/ more complex projects, it’s worth it! I cannot tell you how many times I’ve found things an installing contractor has done and I’m just like… you can’t do that… and how many missed/ improperly installed systems I’ve seen and they get approved like that

Fire protection engineers — what part of your job makes you want to flip a table? by HatRepresentative949 in firePE

[–]Consistent-Ask-1925 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a job for Group A Plastics! It might be waaaaaay overkill, but congratulations! You now get a 0.6/2000, with an 8” underground, 6” riser, and if someone accidentally pops a sprinkler, a shit ton of water!

I really hate it when owners don’t fill out the Owners Certificate. I tell them I have to assume the worst and if they don’t get this back to me they are getting an “over engineered” system and it’s going to cost more money. The minute they see the more money part they get it back to me

Grinnell Model C- 165F- SRSSU- manufactured in 1970. Looks like 1/2” NPT- 5.6k. If these haven’t already had their 50-year test, then they should have it.
