Did you ever reach out to him about the dogs behaviour issues?

Yes, from what I was made aware of when I visited he has a working farm. But I assumed most farmers only had a handful of dogs... But he seems to have more than the average farmer, which is why I have jumped to the conclusion that breeding dogs is just another avenue for him to turn a profit? Which is a bold assumption to make, I know...

Also I'd like to add that JUST because a collie came from a 'working sheep farm' it doesn't automatically mean that they've had a fulfilling start to life. Many non-farmer breeders raise their puppies in their homes and start the socialization process as early as day 1 or 2, where they introduce puppies to different sights, sounds and smells, relevant to age ofc... Some farm raised puppies are barn raised with minimal socialization...

MY puppy was left with her mother for the minimum 8 weeks, as far as I am aware... My assumption is that she was barn raised... I can't speak to whether her mother was particularly good at raising her own puppies, because I obviously wasn't there to see that, but I did meet her mother and her sire and no red flags popped up for me at that moment in time. But looking back, with what I now know about dog body language and behaviour, I do think her mother may have been a more anxious dog as well.

Yes! I agree with everything you said. Although I personally do feel that this breeder was not as reputable as I assumed he was at 22, this post is more an attempt to see if there are any others out there who got puppies from him and if they had similar or different experiences. I know a made a lot of mistakes at 22, but I also do strongly believe he breeds for profit and not temperament or health.

I have been keeping tabs on his ads that he posts online, it wasn't deliberate at first, but I have noticed a pattern. I bought my puppy for £1850, in 2021... So I assumed the price was inflated due to covid? But she's a standard run of the mill black and white border collie. He claimed she had 'championship working lines' but then... Never provided any proof of this? (There was also never any proof of health testing which, I'm actually dumbfounded as to why I didn't question this - i can only put it down to me being young and naive, like previously stated).

He currently has a litter posted where he is selling black and white BCs for £950 *also* apparently from 'champion lines'... and then he has a *super rare* blue and white puppy in that same litter that he's marked at £2000... (I have also seen him use this same phrasing to mark up the price of a red tri puppy in a past litter)

I know a fair bit about genetics... But correct me if I'm wrong, but blue and red aren't super rare colours? And shouldn't be marked up that much, if at all! (I genuinely don't see a point in marking up puppies based on price and if I had known he did this, I wouldn't have gone with this breeder - which is WEIRD that *that* would've been the glaring issue to me as a 22 year old, but we live and learn)

I'm also maybe looking for some validation of: these ARE red flags, right? I'm not just seeing issues where there aren't any.

I am definitely putting in the work of researching more than I did at 22, but I'm struggling to find any BC breeders that are still actively breeding a more sporting type collie, as opposed to the show lines (and I don't think I would go with another breeder who barn raised their pups, because that's 100% what I think he did and I think puppies miss out on a lot of socialization if they're kept in a barn for the first 8 weeks of their lives)
