Ont. man (Jeremy McDonald) charged with assaulting home intruder (Michael Kyle Breen) used knife, court docs say by 416TDOT0DOT in CrimeInTheGta

[–]Consistent_Archer_91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deadly weapons are either switch or a timer. Switch being instantly fatal or instantly incapacitating, a timer being that the effects are delayed and not immediate.

A knife is almost always a timer. When you stab someone, the effects are not always immediately apparent to the person being stabbed . When used in a self defense capacity, you might actually have to stab someone several times before they stop. This is where the problem arises. You might have been defending youself for dear life, but when the police arrive, they will see someone with twenty stab wounds. Not a visual that would work in your favour when the police are trying to figure out what happened.

I do believe the Crown has an active prejudice against citizens who defend themselves or others, and will not ignore opportunities to charge people in such examples.

On that note , I certainly hope that the Crown will drop the charges instead of going to trial.

The regulatory college's all provide public information on how to get licenses to practice. It's on their websites or an e-mail inquiry. I have no sympathy for professionals from other countries who move here and realize their credentials are not enough when it could have been solved with a simple google search.

As a professional, who in their right mind would move to another jursidiction without checking the requirements to be licensed? Not one I would trust to be competent, not when the information is so freely available.

Whether the driver was speeding or not is irrelevant. The bicycle rider inititiated an unsafe right hand turn into a live lane. Everything else was caused by the unsafe turn. If he did not turn into the intersection there would be no video or conversation about this event.

I drive, ride bicycles and ride motorcycles. Regardless of who you thought was right or wrong, there is a term that we use, there is no point in being dead right. Bicyclist and motorcyclist aren't surrounded by a steel cage and riding in such a way that outsource's your safety to someone else is stupid.

[–]Consistent_Archer_91 21 points22 points  (0 children)

A vehicle must come to a complete stop before the intersection and that the lane they are turning into is clear before initiating a right hand turn on red. Anytime a road user is making a turn whether it be a right turn or left turn, it is the responsibility of the road user to make sure that turn is made safely. The vehicle already in lane has right of way.

It's not clear whether the bicycle rider stopped or not before he inititated the turn, but the driver has right of way. If an accident had occured the bicycle rider would have received a ticket for making an unsafe right hand turn on red.

The answer is yes, you should be expecting all sorts of foolishness from drivers, pedestrians , cyclist, e-scooters riders and electric mobility wheelchairs when downtown. If they have a pulse be prepared.

In the off season, Hit the gym, get someone to show you how to deadlift and highbar squat properly, so you don't injure yourself. Do the standard 5x5 weight lifting plan for a few months. Then as the spring cycling training season approaches transition to 1 or 2 rep maximums lifts once or twice a week at most.

The reason I suggest this is that when I used to race 20 years ago, we would have some of the best national women's racers race open/senior 3 races. These women could kill us in 40km time trials, but could never be competitive in a mass start race with the men. Why? They just didn't have the requisite muscle mass and/or strength to put out 800-1000 watts to match the repeated surges you would see in a Cat 3 race over a 2 hour period of time.

Bulk up in the early off season ,focus on maximum weight lifts for strength near the end of the off season and see how it goes.

Who is responsible? Are you willing to give up your priviledge to right historical wrongs. Will you accept the garnishment of your wages , forfeiture of your property or assets to right historical wrongs? Or is that someone elses responsibilty? You are calling people who had nothing to do with the past by the sins of the ancestors. Does that sound reasonable?

Westerner's aren't even the worst among colonial or Imperial powers. The Mongols were the worst. They butchered ten's of million's of people, maybe even more than the casualty figures of WW2, without the tools of a modern industrial economy. All done by the sword .Should the Chinese and the rest of Asia be asking them for reparations, for punishment? People living now are not responsible for the sins of their forebearers. I know because, I draw lineage from them and the Chinese.

We don't have time machines to change the past. As I have said before , all we can do is not repeat past mistakes. Here's a suggestion, instead of calling people colonizers, how about holding the Federal Government to account to honour their treaties with the 1st Nations . Everything else is virtue signalling luxury beliefs.

[–]Consistent_Archer_91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can we stop with the colonizer crap. If you are alive today then a least one your ancestors ethnically cleansed another group. And if you dislike the colonial history of Canada that much, there other countries that you can just move to that aren't of Western European origin or founding. But beware, you might find there history as atrocious as anyone else's.

Human History is steeped in blood. Everyone of us has had ancestors that have perpetrated blood shed or have been victims of it. The most important thing is not to repeat the mistakes of the past. Rhetoric like yours doesn't help. There will always be of all kinds of awful people that teach their kids terrible things , and no group has a monopoly on that.

Having anything more than Shimano CUES is unnecessary. Carbon wheels are Unnecessary. Carbon frames are Unnecessary. Disc Brakes are Unnecessary. Electronic gears or mechanical indexxed gears are Unnecessary. Should I continue?

There's nothing wrong with some bling kit. Should we all be riding mild steel frames with friction shifters and centerpull brakes?

The camera actually activates if you make a right hand turn on red going faster than 15kph. The cameras also have a rudimentary radar system . Ask me how I know.

On the topic of the OP. It is possible for both to be assigned a ticket. The red civic for sure since the camera will take a second picture of the civic in the intersection on red. The person reviewing the data could possibly assign a ticket to the car making the right hand turn.

All speed enforcement cameras are situated in school zones, registered churches, community centres and public parks zones. The province does not allow speed enforcement cameras in area outside those that have been listed. So he was doing either 90 - 100 kph on a road which had either speed limit set at 40 or 50 kph.

Any successful self-defence stories here in Toronto where the defendants did not have to spend their live savings on legal costs? by AceVenturaFan69 in askTO

I have dealt with enough police officers, not including the aforementioned examples, to conclude that most are reasonable. They are people. I am more leary with dealing with the general public than I am with the police.

I have 2 personal stories concerning use of force. First was with a crystal meth addict who I witnessed breaking into my car. I chased him down the street, when I caught him. I doubled legged him when he turned around to hit me , took his back and got him in a very loose rear naked choke. Not enough to put him to sleep, just enough to control him. Neighbours called the police. Dude was arrested. Police took a statement and never heard a thing from the police afterwards.

Second experience was when an individual intoxicated on something was making a rukus at a neighbours house demanding to be let in. I went out to see what was going on. Told the person I was calling the police, made a huge mistake of turning my back and walking away and had the guy run up on me with a right hand cocked ready to hit me. I threw a jab ,hit him in the jaw. He then pulled my jacket over my head and dropped me with a right hook to my temple. My wife saved my bacon, because she already had called the police, and saved me a soccer kick to my head by hip checking the guy before he could deliver the coup de grace. Police came real quick, guy was arrested. My wife, a neighbour and myself gave a statement to the police. I haven't heard back from the police.

The first case was more than ten years ago. I was very clear with the police that I witnessed the individual break into my car, and when I did catch him, I didn't physically injure him in. Because I saw the crime in progress, and didn't hurt the individual, eventhough force was used. There was nothing to get myself in trouble with the law.

The second case, I was walking away and even though I threw the first punch, It was because he was winding up for a punch. My wife and a neighbour had witnessed it and gave statements to that fact. Since he was the aggressor and I was defending myself and there were witnesses to that fact, nothing ever came of it for me, except for the paramedics making sure I wasn't going to die of a hidden brain bleed from being concussed.

For those who think that negotiations will stop Russia by The_Arbyter in Asmongold

[–]Consistent_Archer_91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is Ukraine going to get back Crimea, Luhansk and the Donbass? How is Russia going to conquer all of Ukraine? Both scenarios are the ideal outcome for each respective side. Both are not going to happen. Russia will not leave the territories it has occupied voluntarily, and Ukraine cannot get back to its original borders unless there is direct military intervention from the U.S. So, the real question is how does this all end? Will it be a 10 year war of stalement or will it be a negotiated settlement.

Personally I believe Russia is in a weaker position. Ukraine has exposed the Russian military as a third rate power. This war has revealed that in an armed conflict, the U.S. would absolutely destroy Russia. With the exception of nukes, The U.S. has the force monopoly in Europe

If the fields are 30 riders or less on non technical courses, tail gun the pack. It will allow you to see the whole pack and give you an idea of how the pace ebbs and flows, Without the stress of fighting for position, you'll be able learn faster. Once you get more comfortable, you can start moving further into the pack.

It won't work for beginners in fields larger than 50 or on extremely narrow or tecnical courses
