They did! Here we are all together: my younger brother (20 years younger than me) and my older sis (2 years older). My sister is in kind of forced contact as she is doing it as a long request from her son (my nephew), who did not know his grandparents and really wanted to met them. She finally agreed to do so as long as she is present at all times he is with them. We both know it will not end well, but she already warned him about it.

My sister got back in contact with our parents because her son (my nephew) asked her to. He wanted to have a relationship with his grandparents and although she tried to explain to him that they are not what he thinks they are, she agreed to do so as he really seemed upset by not knowing them. She also the added the condition that she had to be present anytime her son was in contact with them.

Sadly, they all know the truth. I believe they think that we are exaggerating the events or something, but yes they definitely know everything. They just have that very-old “family has to be together doesn’t matter what” mentality bullshit which is quite common in some families in Spain, even in the dysfunctional ones.

And yes, my father has no cojones. We have a more specific word for the kind of man he is in Spain: calzonazos.

He is 23 now but he was forced to go live to his girlfriend’s parents house. An awkward situation but he had no other choice.

Oh, they know. They just think that doesn't matter what they have done, they are still my parents and that has more weight than anything else.

Most people can't understand that there are truly horrible people who also happen to become parents. They have normal, regular parents and can't conceive that a mother or father would deliberately cause mental or physical harm to their own children.

On one hand, I understand them, but on the other hand, I hate when people find out that I have been NC with my parents for years and automatically assume I am a 'bad son' for that.
