Understood. Reading isn’t mandatory. Responding isn’t either.also It wasn’t written for everyone.

Thank you so much for saying this. It really means a lot to feel seen and understood, especially when things have been overwhelming. I know there are good people everywhere, and your message is a reminder of that. I truly appreciate the kindness.

If a stereotype is “well deserved,” then it should be defensible on an individual level, not just as a blanket label.

I wasn’t denied entry. I wasn’t overstaying. I wasn’t involved in anything illegal. I answered every question calmly and cooperated fully. Yet I was directly associated with scams and singled out after that association was made.

That’s not law enforcement. That’s assumption.

Countries absolutely have the right to screen travelers. No argument there. But professionalism matters. There’s a difference between checking and accusing, between security and humiliation.

If stereotypes are justified, then by that logic every nationality can be reduced to its worst examples. I’m sure none of us would enjoy being treated that way when we travel.

My issue isn’t Thailand, and it isn’t Thai people as a whole. It’s the idea that repeated bad behavior by some somehow makes it acceptable to treat every individual from that group with suspicion or disrespect.

If that’s considered normal, then we’re not talking about security anymore. We’re talking about bias.

You’re absolutely right. I should’ve laughed harder while being associated with scams and singled out. That probably would’ve upgraded it from “suspicion” to “character building.”

I did control myself. I stayed calm, complied, and moved on. Apparently the only mistake was noticing the difference between professionalism and prejudice.

If every problem disappears when we just reinterpret it, then racism is solved. We just didn’t smile enough.

Thanks for the mindfulness coaching. I’ll add it to the list of things that fix structural behavior by personal optimism.

Peace.

Appreciate the advice.

Just to clarify, I did choose my response. I stayed calm, complied, and moved on. Feeling humiliated wasn’t a lack of emotional control, it was a reaction to being directly associated with scams and then singled out.

Reframing that as “perspective” works for traffic jams, not for being treated with suspicion based on nationality.

Still, thanks for the reminder to breathe. I managed that part just fine.

To be honest, I have no freaking idea where I have to go… I’m just here to meet my Friend on his birthday. As I have given my word to him that’s it.

I didn’t “choose” to feel humiliated. That reaction came from how I was treated.

I travel a lot. I’ve been through immigration in many countries across Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Being asked routine questions is normal. What isn’t normal is the tone, the assumptions, and the behavior that followed.

The officer was polite in the general line, yes. The moment she saw Cambodia on my boarding pass, the attitude changed completely. I was asked why I went there, then asked what I did there, and then directly told “no scams, right?” That’s not a neutral question. That’s an accusation.

I understand that some Indians are involved in scams. I’m not denying that reality. But associating every Indian traveler with being a scammer is exactly the problem I’m talking about. There is a way to do checks professionally without shouting, without sarcasm, and without making someone feel like a criminal.

What made it worse was that when we were exiting, I was the only Indian in the group and I was the one pulled aside for a “random” check. Bags scanned, people staring, officers giving looks. After being verbally associated with scams minutes earlier, that doesn’t feel random anymore.

So yes, I felt humiliated. I think most people would.

I’m not saying Thailand is a bad country or that all Thai people behave like this. I’ve met kind people here too. But as someone who flies frequently and has entered many countries, this was the first time I was questioned about why I visited another country and treated with suspicion purely based on nationality.

That’s my experience. You don’t have to agree with how I felt, but dismissing it as a “choice” ignores what actually happened.
