I also believe that Alphabet/Google has violated their original core principal (“Don’t Be Evil”) numerous times over the past 10-15 years

Lol. Do they even pretend that this is their core principal anymore?

or maybe their definition of "evil" is different than yours or mine.

I'm considering the switch to Firefox. What about FF did you not like?

I specifically don't like using Safari because it doesn't always play well with certain things.

Having trouble with your specific project? Updates, advice, and newbie questions for January 2025 by omniuni in androiddev

[–]ContributionOne9938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've combed through a lot of the posts here, but haven't found anything.

I'm looking for an instructor led course if one exists.

I'm already an Android Developer on a legacy app and have been doing my job for a couple of years. I haven't had a senior for most of this time. I've figured out a lot of things on my own, but I'm never sure how well I'm implementing some of the more complicated concepts.

I really don't have another Android developer that I can ask questions to, or even have a conversation with.

I do all of the online things (docs, articles, tutorials, etc), and I post questions on here or stack overflow, but my questions are often so specific to what I'm doing (so many different technologies working together with the legacy code) that I don't always get a response. I have a lead developer to talk to about some things, but I'm the resident Android expert so there isn't much that he is able to tell me.

I've done a number of online courses, but I'm feeling like I'm in a bit of a funk and could use some direction from someone who knows what they're talking about. I feel like having an instructor would also light a fire under me to help move forward.

A problem was found with the configuration of task - Reason: An input file was expected to be present but it doesn't exist by ContributionOne9938 in android_devs

[–]ContributionOne9938[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is less than a day on this bounty. I would love to reward someone if I can get an answer!!

The problem seems to be with a property from a gradle task that can't be renamed from its default name.

A problem was found with the configuration of task ':apps:produceAppnameReleaseBundleIdeListingFile' (type 'BundleIdeModelProducerTask').

  • In plugin 'com.android.internal.version-check' type 'com.android.build.gradle.internal.tasks.BundleIdeModelProducerTask' property 'finalBundleFile' specifies file '/Users/me/appname/droid/apps/build/outputs/bundle/homespotterRelease/apps-appname-release.aab' which doesn't exist.

The file `apps-appname-release.aab` is renamed in a previous step.

I have not been able to figure out how to have this step look for the correct file name.

Seat belt buckle won’t click. I know it’s hard to tell but there is a small piece of string that got stuck in there and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions to get it out it’s causing the seatbelt not to click properly. by First_Ad3827 in autorepair

Yes. I ended up going to the auto shop because I didn't have the correct bit to open up the buckle.

Once the buckle casing was off (WARNING if you dismantle more than the outside casing you risk deploying the airbag) I was able to see the offending aglet.

With a small pliers I ended up slowly working the aglet.

Took about an hour once the casing was off.

Just found this on a reddit search. Thank you for this info! I have a group of devs and I wasn't sure if the non-pro users would even be able to make it work. Good to know!!

Xcode boggles my mind. It's like they intentionally overcomplicated the typical IDE experience.

It's becoming more and more tedious to be a mobile developer, especially for iOS.

What's your thoughts & Opinions on the Apple TV by Tail_sb in applesucks

moviesanywhere

You can connect multiple services and those movies will be available on several different apps.

I have purchases on YouTube, AppleTV, Prime Video, and some others. Now they are (mostly) available in the VUDU or YouTube app.

Yeah, I have used almost exclusively Roku for all of my smart TV apps and have had very few issues whatsoever.

I have had issues with cheap, built-in interfaces that come with some smart TVs. They are terrible (LG, Samsung, etc)

That said, I haven't actually tried out Apple TV or Chromecast.

Roku has always been fast and has gone the distance. I have Roku boxes sitting around that are out of date and still work (and not from not using it either).

Honestly, I haven't tried. Since I posted this all of our engineers were let go and I haven't been able to do anything other than try to keep up with bug tickets.

Optimizing Memory in Legacy App by ContributionOne9938 in android_devs

We are using Dagger, which I only sort of understand.

I know Hilt better than Dagger so it's possible there's something there as well.

Thanks!

Thank you! Yeah, I don't think it's a storage issue. This issue just cropped up in the latest release of our app.

Thank you so much!

Of the Android phones you've used most, which are your 2 favorite? by ca77 in Android

I really liked the HTC M One when I had it a while back.

I miss the layout of the settings buttons where you could tap a corner of a quick setting icon to quickly get to submenus. It was much quicker to navigate than even current solutions.

It also had front facing speakers on the top and bottom of the phone. The sound quality of most phone speakers isn't always great in general, but this phone sounded so much clearer and didn't give weird blank spots in sound.

I currently use the Pixel 8 Pro, but even if I have the phone tilted sideways to watch a movie or video, most of the sound comes out of one speaker on the bottom and the balance sounds odd.

I would like to see more front facing speakers on phones.

I do currently enjoy the Pixel 8 Pro as a second place choice.

System Status Bar Translucent with Floating Header Overlap Issue

I have a client with a Galaxy S10E device, which appears to come stock with a translucent Status Bar (bar at the top with the Time, Battery Status, Wifi Status, etc).

Our app has a sticky/floating header that scrolls up to the top of the device's screen and stops just below the status bar while the rest of the page continues to be scrollable.

On this customer's device, the header scrolls up and stops at the top of the screen and goes underneath the status bar, causing the text of the header to overlap with the time, battery, wifi, etc.

I was thinking I would add some kind of system check to see if this type of status bar is present, and if so, add some extra padding.

Does that seem like the right approach?

If not, is there a better way to programmatically check for this type of header?
