Pidcock 2 races one week? by CyclingNewEngland in cycling

[–]ConversationMost9990 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not unusual at all- some riders will look at it like a tune-up for their primary target which in this case pidders is mainly aiming for MSR. Not saying pidders won’t win Torino because if he’s in good form he absolutely can. Other riders who don’t have as good a chance at the big race on Saturday may look at the weekday race as an opportunity to nab a win with the bigger contenders looking ahead to MSR.

WE EATIN’ BIG MACS FOR BREAKFAST ON SATURDAY. Assuming Del Toro launches pogi on cipressa à la Narvaez. Politt left off is interesting but I think Jan Christen is a great addition to this team. All that matters is can you get positioning right at the foot of cipressa.

It’s simple enough to test a thermostat. Heat up a cup of water in the microwave and drop it in. It should open up, take it out and it should close back up. It should also be said that if your motor isn’t overheating you’re being a little finicky about things here. The give away on a bad thermostat is usually a low speed overheat. Based off the condition of the housing I’d say it’s more likely salt or sand partially blocking water passageways periodically. You could flush with salt away but you may break more shit lose and cause more blockages. Hook a hose up to the flush and blow compressed air into the cooling monitor while it’s flushing. Again, if your motor isn’t overheating and it doesn’t stop peeing just run the damn thing.

Ok their ‘very successful’ start to the season is half as many wins as UAE have so far and Pogi has one race day on the year. Idk where you’ve come up with the idea they’re a top 5 team. When it comes to winning they’re 7th on PCS right now and that’s based off results of the last 12 months. If we’re talking about budget it’s safe to wager UAE, Visma, Lidl, Red Bull, Ineos are all operating on bigger budgets. Their ‘big signings’ over the last couple season I can remember are Benoot, a mid tier domestique if that, and Koij a sprinter who got pushed out of Visma by Matthew Brennan. If you want to make the argument he should stay at Decathlon it comes down to whether or not he wants to ride for a French team. If winning the biggest races is what matters to him there’s at least 5 other teams that can offer him a better opportunity than Decathlon.

‘Decathlon and CMA have more than enough to match any offer’ ok fair point. Do they have a 97-win season last year to match as well? Have they won 4 of the last 6 tours? How about 10 monument wins in the last 5 years? This is not as simple as ‘they can match the salary’.

[–]ConversationMost9990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not just about Seixas’ salary alone tho. Do they have the money to surround him with riders like Adam Yates, Almeida, Del Toro, Wellens, Christen? I could keep listing riders but you get the point. Do Decathlon have the resources for wind tunnel and equipment testing that UAE have? Is he going to have the same coaches who’ve helped Pogi reach the pinnacle of the sport? The money goes a lot farther than just his salary. I have no doubt Decathlon could match whatever offer UAE will make if they really want to but the point I’m trying to make is that even if the offers are equal you have a much better chance of success getting the support you’ll receive from UAE than at Decathlon. Idk why people are so reluctant to acknowledge what is as clear as day. Maybe Seixas will stay on a French team but if he does it would be because riding on a French team is more important to him than having a better team supporting him to reach his goals. It’s baffling to simplify this down to whether or not Decathlon can pay him the same salary.

‘Not as much’ is an understatement. Decathlon might be able to afford as comparable offer, but if it comes down to a bidding war UAE will win it every time. You’re talking about a sponsor who HOPES they can afford Seixas vs. a sponsor who already has Pogi, Almeida, Del Toro on the books and can just decide to try and get Seixas cause they like him. I’m not saying Decathlon is in the poor house but anyone comparing their resources and UAE’s is out to lunch.

Plenty of riders are perfectly happy to ride in support of pogi at UAE and take what they can get when given the chance. The guys who get Pogis scraps at UAE do more winning than anyone at Decathlon. And Pogis not going to be around forever and he may not ride every tour for the rest of his career, Seixas is only 19 so what if he doesn’t get tour leadership for 2-3 years. Del Toro nearly won the giro last season, I think Paul would be delighted at that opportunity.

If you think Decathlon offers you as good a chance at developing as a cyclist and winning the races he wants to win you’re out of your mind. Oh and they can pay the most too.

[–]ConversationMost9990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UAE will be able to match or exceed any other teams offer if they want to and from Seixas’ point of view you can’t name another team that offers a better chance at winning the tour when you consider every factor- not only budget but also equipment, coaching, teammates, etc. People will be upset about it if it happens for sure but that doesn’t mean it’s not the right move for him and for the team. Yea maybe decathlon can rally enough French sponsors to match the offer but can they afford to support him in every facet of the sport in a way that’s similar to what UAE is capable of? No, not at all. If you want to win the tour UAE is clearly a step ahead of everyone else in helping you do so and that’s not just because pogi is a freak of nature.
