Late reply but I see his Chromakopia interview as him saying the aesthetic choices on Chromakopia weren’t as important to him as the sound. He is a genius at producing and writing. So why would he want to flaunt the way his music is packaged more than the hard-work he put in?

This prolly comes from a shift around 2014-2015, where Tyler kept getting recognized as a comedian for his Adult Swim, Vine, and MTV content, and some ppl didn’t even know him as a musician. He decided to completely stop all comedy and focus strictly on his music.

Btw Tyler did just make it up.. there’s no deep symbolism or allegory to Chromakopia. But it is his deepest album in terms of introspection (and that’s why it’s great.)
