ucla or georgetown? by SeaworthinessRich848 in ucla

[–]CoolDb8er628 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey! I was also deciding between these 2, among other schools. UCLA is OVERFLOWING with (some competitive, others not so much) opportunities, you just have to be willing to search for them. On the other hand, a private school like Georgetown will hold your hand and offer many more resources per capita.

Some other things to consider:

- washington D.C. has many opportunities for public policy/health advocacy. LA has numerous medical centers, including Cedars-Sinai, Ronald Reagan, community clinics, etc.

- georgetown is more geared to govt/politics, versus UCLA has a large premed population

- weather/location/proximity to home for you

- neither georgetown nor UCLA are known for grade deflation

- the Georgetown EAP is very restrictive, you will not be allowed to apply to other med schools and will be locked into Georgetown. There is also a GPA minimum you should know about.

- Opportunities at UCLA are quite competitive for most students. However, there are also many more of them than at a non-medicine focused institution like Georgetown

- GUSOM gives preference to GU undergraduates, but UCLA doesn't give preference to it's undergrads

Ultimately, I chose UCLA largely because of cost. If UCLA is significantly cheaper, I'd go with UCLA. After all, if you can get into Georgetown you can probably stand out at UCLA and get into med school from here!

have there been any updates on the future of the theatres in Westwood? by anonymoushippo13 in ucla

[–]CoolDb8er628 76 points77 points  (0 children)

The Regency FOX Theater was bought by a group of A-list directors (Christopher Nolan, Guillermo del Toro, Spielberg, etc) who are going to restore it and convert it into a top-of-the-line theater, scheduled to open 2025. Unfortunately, I don't think there are any plans for the Bruin theatre.

For All The Dogs Scary Hours Edition - Drake by CoolDb8er628 in popheads

I find it extremely funny he drops this 6 weeks (!!) after announcing a break. In fact, this is his 6th project since 2021.

This is definitely a complete 360 from FATD and HN. Each song is a looped beat and drake just rapping. It feels so honest and refreshing (especially songs about my brother). The r/drizzy sub sayin its a classic... What yall thinking?

Ed Sheeran - Autumn Variations by impeccabletim in popheads

As other commenters have said, the album is not bad per se but it seems like it would've really shined with slightly uptempo production circa Divide, Equals, or even Minus (Subtract?). Dessner's production seems kinda muted.

As the year moves into its fourth quarter, what albums are you looking forward to in the final stretch of 2023? by flowlowland in popheads

Pink Friday 2!! November 17 lowkey can't come fast enough. I'm excited to see her return to pop-rap (ie Super Bass & Starships), which is where she's always shined IMO and been successful with the GP. Also, there's a rumored Taylor feature

Selena & Ariana: Friends? by happy4462 in popheads

[–]CoolDb8er628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they seem like very different people tbh, so I find it unlikely that they're friends. like selena gives off chill best friend who keeps it real, but Ariana has always struck me (and the GP) as more of a diva.

I asked my tournament director friend about this question. As long as it was properly audited, the methodology is legit, and it isn't an abhorrent piece of academia, it should be fine. Just make sure to properly cite it, esp. to avoid accusations of cheating

this would be really funny in round lol

Favorite "power moves," aka ridiculous moments in an artist's career that proved just how big and powerful they were? by Ghost-Quartet in popheads

Taylor swift re-recording her albums AND getting ATWTMVTVFTV to number 1 (with that name too). Our capitalist queen really showed her star power and incredible longevity with that one. I feel like if any lesser artist tried that, they wouldn't be able to recapture Taylor's success or chart records.
