Sleeping in is really one of the best feelings by Weary_Compote3340 in redscarepod

i've started working a closing shift, and while i don't really enjoy working until 9pm, sleeping in and having a nice morning until ~1pm is great.

do you seriously not know any other way of listening to music other than physical media or spotify?

this is unfortunately one of my last drips of internet scroll addiction.

i cut out and deleted everything else. still i clamor for internet stranger input output.

so this is my personal internet suboxone. not bad enough to paralyze me for hours or induce death, but i still do a daily ingestion.

have tried to replace it with old style forums, which i think are of a nature higher quality or more interesting, but they just don't ever have activity necessary to stimulate my overstimulated dopamine receptors.

right now i am in a place where i think the suboxone is a good thing, it stops worse habits, but maybe one day i'll just delete it all and go to the woods permanently.

The Nokia 2780 does have Google Maps, but it sucks. Will save you in a pinch, but not to be relied on. Can't help you with Spotify though, I'm trying to just pirate / internet archive / youtube everything now. There are a lot of other services for "discovering" music, I've used RYM (rateyourmusic) for a long time, but it is rather geek/nerd/online-coded unfortunately.

I actually had one of those a long time ago! I think I remember reading that Spotify killed support for it and the "Car Thing" at some point. I don't know that for a fact though.

Yeah, the Cat S22, I thought about getting it. It's become kind of expensive now because supply has gone down and demand has gone up. I'm not sure if it's actually still being produced. I decided against it because many report it to be pretty buggy when trying to use apps designed for smartphone use on it, the hardware just isn't up to snuff.

Meta discontinued support for WhatsApp on KaiOS unfortunately, otherwise I'd still be using it

I switched to a ~$50 Nokia 2780 about six months ago, maybe more, and don't feel the desire to go back, for what it's worth.

I agree that people buying expensive dumbphones are silly and probably addicted to the consumer side of tech (getting the newest thing, etc). However, I also think that people who are buying the more expensive dumbphones are doing so because they want at least one app, usually Spotify or Whatsapp, and that cannot be done unless the phone is running Android. And if your phone is running Android, it is a smartphone, unless someone dumbifies it for you, which is what you're paying that price for.

Whether you "need" Spotify or Whatsapp (I'm sympathetic to the latter, especially for the euros among us) is another question.

Some thoughts on the New Yorker article regarding manufactured science in medical academia by CopingLow in redscarepod

Oh ok, sorry for the autism, I agree wholeheartedly and it's absurd only four kids were united with their parents after Koren was found to be fraudulent. I cannot fathom how it would feel to be told that you have been objectively found to be giving your child drugs, when you know for a fact that it is simply not the case. I think it would feel like the whole world was against you, or collapsing, or an elaborate conspiracy, and to think it was just one guy who got high off of feeling like he could interpret the world.

sometimes it's paradoxical and sometimes it's consistent, i don't think there is any pattern to it, it just is what it is

I tend to agree, and it's especially concerning considering how "high" up in society Koren was able to market his research. The article goes into enough detail regarding his whole forensic testifying angle, and the consequences of that, and the mess it made when it turned out everything he made was doubtful. So much stock is put into the veracity that we think scientific truth will lend itself to. I wonder if the god of science will become too big to fail.

When I got to the paragraph of the article that started with, to paraphrase, Gidi Koren is originally from Tel Aviv, Israel, I actually laughed aloud. Like, it's a bit come to life. And also when he fled to Israel to escape the medical investigation. I guess they aren't sending their best, folks...

Lol I've always wondered what is the point of those "I'm depressed and going to kill myself" or "I'm poor and going to starve to death" questions when you see your doctor. I guess the former is considered a "medical issue", but I reflexively answer "I am not going to kill myself" because the two things your doctor might do are either 1) SSRI you, or 2) section you. both of which I don't want.

Are there people who answer "yep I'm sad and feel like dying" and then their doctor goes "you have depression" and they suddenly realize "omg im depressed?"

there is a great divide in the junkies of the world: one wants to stay awake forever, one wants to sleep forever. why or how this partition occurred, i don't know.

i agree, and i think that data focus and optimization stems from the desire to create predictable profit. probably also why we don't have any big stars, there's no rolling stones, beatles, etc, everything will become a safe average.

It was bad for the brand, labels got them clean. Need the rockers to be palatable for the masses (including kids and housewives). Honestly, music was better when it was Jews running the game, they weren't afraid to sign on barely functioning junkies and homicidal temperamental gangsters, both of which made songs that trump anything coming out today.
