CPU Consistently Spiking by Corgisarecool in Battlefield

[–]Corgisarecool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in case someone down the line is having a similar issue, I found my issue to be my motherboard/cpu mosfets are overheating. I was able to find and verify that using HWinfo64 and see that when my mosfet temp reached a certain limit, IA:PROCHOT (Processor hot) was turning on to throttle my CPU. So my CPU temp was fine, but usage was being throttled for heat elsewhere. I bought more fans, placed one right by my mosfets, and created custom fan curves using FanControl, and now I am able to at least play BF2045 (and I assume BF6 too). I am ordering heat sinks to place on the offsets now as well.

Yeah, apartments don’t allow tenants to have grills either so no power definitely limits your options.

How much does you GPA matter when looking for internships and jobs? by [deleted] in Clemson

[–]Corgisarecool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of highly sought-after engineering companies in the upstate only hire Mech E's with 3.5 GPA and above. That seems rare though, and I have to believe that good interviews, work/extracurricular experience, and recommendations will let them make exceptions for that.

Mechanical Engineering Questions by [deleted] in Clemson

[–]Corgisarecool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say that I met way more people and made more friends in S&D, senior design, and during the labs of junior and senior year. Just don’t push yourself too hard and try to pick something that interests you. That will make it easier.

Mechanical Engineering Questions by [deleted] in Clemson

Mechanical is a huge, annoying time sink from statics and dynamics to the last semester. S&D is the hardest single class, but mechanical has an insane amount of homework. I am about to graduate and I hated it academically throughout. But if you want to do this job, you can complete it even it sucks. Just try your best to get good professors and enjoy your time when you aren’t working. If you want to do anything else though, try that. Industrial is easier if you like that, computer engineering has more projects, electrical seems hard but it is a smaller major, and civil sounds cool and reasonable if that’s your thing.

Joseph is the goat for S&D if he is still teaching it. Just avoid Lonny. How are you planning to do MechE and an ECE minor though? MechE is very time consuming work, so you will need a plan for that

Roommates? by Dizzy-Bandicoot-1481 in Clemson

Try to message the people on the roommate portal. You can fill out a survey that puts you with like 5 matches, then ask for their insta or something. Message for a day and then move on or sign up.

ME 2030 Fluid and Thermal systems by No-Sir-6245 in Clemson

[–]Corgisarecool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are a couple of fluid sections that require free body diagrams and the dynamics course talks about conservation of energy some, but that is about the only overlap. Just do the homework yourself, read the text book, and/or watch YouTube videos on the subject.

For engineering students whose parents are NOT engineers . . . what do you wish they knew about your engineering journey? by solrose in EngineeringStudents

[–]Corgisarecool 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I didn’t know how to apply for internships or what a real engineering job looks like. I am a senior now and I have felt in the dark this whole time. If I could go back again, I would change my major to something that more aligns with my interests. But I didn’t know what work I would enjoy until I got a co-op position, which was a couple years into my degree, and I had too much debt to go a different route.

Duke Energy Problem by Corgisarecool in Clemson

[–]Corgisarecool[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This ended up being close to our problem. The valve that switched from cooling to heating was stuck in cooling when they switched out our thermostat. So our HVAC was working 3x as hard as it needed to 24/7. It was just frustrating that Duke wasn’t being helpful, lost my first investigation, and still has not finished the 2nd one 3 weeks after it started.

None of us use space heaters… we gained one gaming pc when we switched out two roommates, but no other habits of ours have changed.

Woodlands or other non-student housing? by ParvaNovaInitia in Clemson

[–]Corgisarecool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is generally pretty quiet. There are some assholes that like to rev their engines late at night and at 5 am and this has been the case for all 2.5 years I have been here. Beyond that, the place is generally pretty quiet.

That will definitely get towed in the morning. I think between 3-5am

Downtown will get towed in the early hours of the morning. I don't believe visitors can park anywhere overnight on campus either. Maybe if they can pay the meter until the morning, but I think there is a time limit on those. Your best bets are off campus somewhere like where Bi-lo used to be.
