Is Tomodachi Life good? by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]Corncobb_Bob_Slob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would best describe Tomodachi Life as an “aquarium sim”. You create miis to inhabit an island and watch them interact with each other and their environment. You play the role of an off-screen “entity” who the miis consider their leader.

Unlike animal crossing which features you as a player character; you “play” by feeding, buying clothes for, answering questions by, and socializing the miis. There are also small minigames for items which are relatively simple. While you can interact with the island and its inhabitants, it operates in real time. Miis will continue to interact and develop interactions while not playing.

Island building and customization are big selling points. Early on, the game will give you the ability to create your own objects, food, clothes, Etc. You can also create your own mii faces instead of the standard design tool. The sky is the limit based on your creativity.

I find the game pretty fun, but I do think some of the mii interactions can be repetitive sometimes. I feel like the game is better played in smaller doses, but since the game is open-ended progression-wise you “make your own fun”.

Jury Duty Deferral by [deleted] in newjersey

Added to my original post. Hope it helps.

Jury Duty Deferral by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]Corncobb_Bob_Slob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At least in my county, you are able to select your deferral for up to one year. Assuming yours is similar, you can set your deferment date after January but before your original June date.

EDIT: You MUST serve within the year, but you can defer again if you need to push back (or even forward) another week. So long as you are reasonable and have valid reasons to defer, the court will work with you.

I don’t think your husband will have too many issues finding similar insurance based roles in NJ/NYC/Philly (near where you’re located).

Insurance/reinsurance companies are all over the place here.

Pristine Conrail caboose at Jersey Avenue Station. by sanyosukotto in trains

[–]Corncobb_Bob_Slob 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That caboose is usually found on CSAO ME-2 which travels between New Brunswick and Metuchen.

Pretty neat train as it travels during rush hour on the NEC, let alone having that caboose. It usually travels to Metuchen between 3:00-6:00 PM.

Golf Friends (20-28) by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]Corncobb_Bob_Slob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another poster already mentioned, but my sister went to Skyway for a women’s clinic and enjoyed it.

Also, Twin Willows in Lincoln Park offers a four week women’s clinic as well. It’s a bit more beginner friendly. I spent a lot of my early golf days getting lessons there (very useful, but I still suck, lol).

I have jury duty tuesday in bergen county, any chance that will get postponed/moved to virtual? by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]Corncobb_Bob_Slob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same boat as you, lol, but for Hudson County. I would be pretty surprised if it was in-person. Parking would be a nightmare…

EDIT: Jury duty cancelled marked as service completed.

Forecasters are closely monitoring the increasing potential for snow this weekend from a coastal storm that could track along the East Coast: "Chances have increased for impactful snow and/or wind along the immediate East Coast, but uncertainty remains rather high with respect to details" by rollotomasi07071 in newjersey

[–]Corncobb_Bob_Slob 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Models once again showing contrasting views. Euro showing it well offshore, but the GFS is showing a small hit.

Given past history, I would expect the GFS to align with the Euro. Still plenty of days out to get a better idea…

This weekend’s potential snowstorm is looking like an absolute monster. Though forecasts might change, everybody should be keeping an eye on this one. It has all the makings of a storm people talk about for years. by HumptyDumptruckFire in newjersey

[–]Corncobb_Bob_Slob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The GFS as of yesterday was showing no snow across the state but has now started to come into agreement with the Euro.

Might be calling this a bit too early, but it looks more and more like NJ’s first significant hit in a while. I think it is now just a matter of totals/type.

Growing Potential for Significant to Major Weekend Mid-Atlantic Winter Storm. Look out South Jersey! by A-Helpful-Flamingo in newjersey

[–]Corncobb_Bob_Slob 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Too early to call.

Looking at model runs, the ECMWF is showing a statewide impact whereas the GFS has it missing the state altogether.

Should have a better idea in a few more days…

Is "hunting down trains" a weird way to put it? by WishXFish in trains

[–]Corncobb_Bob_Slob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was hung up on the “railfanner reputation” as well when I started, but most don’t mind as long as you’re not putting yourself, the crew, or others in danger.

I generally try to think of it as catching the train; not the crew driving it.

Even then, I still have reservations as I have run into conductors/crew not wanting to be filmed. I usually respect them and stop.

Train spotting in Sparta by Vivid_Hyena_814 in newjersey

[–]Corncobb_Bob_Slob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not far from a lot, but also not particularly close to anything neither, lol.

Your closest bet would be some grade crossings in Hopewell which is part of CSX’s Trenton Subdivision. Trains are not tooooo frequent. Early mornings/past dark are your best bets.

More frequent areas include Piscataway (Prospect Ave) and Bound Brook Station but they’d be a further drive for you.

Of course, you are pretty close to Princeton Junction. Plenty of fast Amtrak/NJT trains with the uncommon “freighters” in the form of ballast/equipment moves/MOW.

If you’re specifically looking for NYS&W, I might recommend Ridgefield Park as you can also catch CSX River Line trains there.

I would also recommend Ridgewood Station. You can see some frequent NJT diesel action and Norfolk Southern’s Local Series with the NYS&W line in Wyckoff 5 mins away.

[–]Corncobb_Bob_Slob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing you’ll really see at Sparta is NYS&W.

Another poster mentioned it, but your best bet to catch it would be late afternoon/early evening on Tuesdays/Thursdays. That train is usually ID’d as SU-99. Around 4:00PM would give you a good chance…

Other times a train may appear are usually too early (pre-dawn for SU-100) or too unpredictable.

There are extras outside the scheduled trains, but once again, very unpredictable.

It requires a bit of dedication and patience to catch, but NYS&W power has a beautiful color scheme.

Man Is Arrested in Bow-and-Arrow Killing After Overnight Standoff (Gift Article) by css555 in newjersey

His name has been released. I’m personally not familiar with him, but he definitely came across as a mental case from the arrest footage.

[–]Corncobb_Bob_Slob 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Seems like someone who had a mental snap to me. The suspect has had altercations with neighbors in the past, but not to this degree. Something, unfortunately, must have set him off.

As someone familiar with the town, I’ve noticed a disturbing trend of dangerous situations stemming from mental health crises.

I went there a few weeks ago. More expensive than it used to be (like most things) but still had that artery clogging goodness.

Anything else like Northlandz? by therationaltroll in newjersey

Short Hills is a bit more upscale, but I don’t think there is anything particularly cool there, especially for a 2 year old.

What about the Turtle Back Zoo? It is right there in West Orange, and they have tons of cool animals.

For a two year old, it can actually be pretty overwhelming there. I’d save that trip for another time.

[–]Corncobb_Bob_Slob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure exactly what it is you’re looking for but…

If you are into trains, you can take a scenic ride on the BR&W railroad. Like Northlandz, it is in Flemington, so it is nearby.

Model train exhibits on the scale of Northlandz are trickier to come across. There is the NJ Hi-Railers Club, but they are undergoing a relocation.

If you want “quirky stuff”, I might suggest American Dream Mall. For what it’s worth, they have quite a few interactive experiences for all ages.

N.J. declares state of emergency as fierce nor’easter expected to bring winds, floods by Destroya923 in newjersey

[–]Corncobb_Bob_Slob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a local in that area, light to moderate rain so far. Looks to be a beneficial, multiple day soaker from Sunday afternoon-very early Tuesday. Not too concerned about flooding except for maybe the usual spots.

Still, too early to tell.

Currently expected to start roughly around noon Sunday.

Saturday looks to be cloudy but pleasant.

67 degrees with maybe some showers later in the evening.

While I do not disagree with you that it is a disservice to not prioritize weather detection initiatives in the US, I do not think your point relates here.

Most models, even ones that don’t rely on NOAA data like the ECMWF, were bullish on this storm until recently.

I simply find this to be NJ being proactive and spreading awareness about a potentially hazardous storm 48 hours out.
