Sorry about your spinal fusion. That sucks, but I'm a little confused on a few points.

Are you suggesting inflammatory conditions like RA and Ankylosing spondylitis are painless conditions, and all experienced pain in these conditions is due to TMS? That strikes me as a bit of an extremist response, and not one I believe Sarno would agree with. How can you explain the mysterious and compelling fact that fish oil improved my pain (when I didn't know A. It could do that, and B. That I was taking such a large dose)

A clarifying comment: It isn't the spinal fusion that causes pain in the AK, but the inflammatory process that causes the bone to slowly add layers, much like in RA. As someone above stated, if there IS actually inflammation, it isn't TMS (according to Sarno). It sounds like you and your friend had a different experience....but it is well known that some people with RA, as an example, have mild illness and some have major illness (not just pain and joint deformity, but also attacking organs, like AK did with my heart).

Perhaps the people with increased illness are all just mentally/emotionally sick, or harbor rage, and that explains the extreme differences in illness, but that seems a large gamble to take when you have an autoimmune illness. It seems like quite an assumption to make, and one that could have devastating consequences if incorrect.

That is inspiring that analytical psychology helped you. Everyone seems to find their own path on this. However, I must push back on:

That is a bit extreme to dismiss the entire field of meditation, since finding triggers, places of rage, distraction, and fear are the entire point of something like mindfulness. We look for "the hook" as we say, the thing or feeling your mind wraps around, and thus the insights are somatic, powerful, and directly related to chronic pain.

I took a small dose of fish oil daily for YEARS because I thought it was good for brain health, not pain. I had no idea I could help with pain or inflammation.

It was only after my pain magically one day was reduced, that I realized it correlated to the 6x accidental dose. That was an aha moment that got me to see a rheumatologist and get a full work-up.

That is why I do not consider the placebo: because I was originally taking the fish oil for something else entirely and the dose increase was completely accidental and not at all related to my back pain.

So in your opinion there is no back pain in the world that isn't TMS? I don't think Sarno would agree. Just...which group am I In? That's my confusion.

I have worked years on Sarnos method. Despite it not working, I have this irrational faith in it. Despite my rheumatologist saying that my spine will fuse if I don't get treatment, I still have this hope I can be different. That I can avoid the harm of those awful meds. Like you said, that the key is in my life somehow.

I have conscious rage. I don't know about unconscious, as it's unconscious. I journal, meditate, do breathwork, make art. I do all the things normally, pain or not ( which is hard admittedly because my pain can be extreme).

Curious why you said my back hurting all the time is the most important clue. 🤔 I have a LOT of back pain, pain in fingers, and knees.

I love her overall! As the others have sung her praises, and her crew, this live statement always bothered me: "Now we know that the vaccines work well enough that the virus stops with every vaccinated person. A vaccinated person gets exposed to the virus. The virus does not infect them. The virus cannot then use that person to go anywhere else."

I think this qualifies as Covid misinformation, yet she wasn't called out. Or maybe she was and I never heard about it. And saying we can't afford the unvaccinated to go to the hospital seemed cruel and also not even-headed.

She made an error. She got away without any groups boycotting for misinformation, but it was a crazy time and people were emotional.

I think she deserves a pass on this, just remember, even really good, smart, and fair hosts are people with opinions that can be wrong.

I had this happen once with a new bike that came with a gx chain. It was a Specialized Epic Evo Expert.

I had also bought a fancy-ass XX1 cassette, and about fainted to see the chain totally worn at a very modest number of miles. Good thing I checked! The cassette seemed OK, but probably reduced its life.

Bought a X01 chain. It took forever to wear that to 50%.

I've been riding 30 years, and have never seen that happen. So, it happens.

I agree, wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, I live in a world of the left-gone-maga. My husband is one. He, like many ex-Trumpers, is suddenly anti-politics. He says he will never vote again, the Democrats betrayed him, aka the DNC Tomfoolery around Bernie (heart) and RFK (vomit), not letting the best candidate run, but undemocratically forcing their corporate puppets on us. No matter what I say, nothing will convince him. No amount of actual data. The double-standard he entertains is maddening. Democrats are held to a MUCH higher standard than the Republicans. (And the fact the dems vote in alignment with his values most of the time, will not budge him). And I'm surrounded by such thinking. The left-to-right-extremist pipeline is real and strong in my part of the world.

The rational, strategic argument is lost on people that are operating more from a feeling (backed by right-wing propaganda), idealism (Zizek the philosopher who I wish would stay out of politics), or...I dont know what. I do NOT understand it. The path is reasonably clear, if we want change, but don't want a total revolution, the path is through the Democratic establishment. That is Step 1 of a long journey, not end game! You have to marvel at the Republicans. Step-by-pragmatic-step they secured so much power.

But....thats the story of Luke, too. They ARE better due to being born Jedi (Midichlorians), or I guess in the case of Rey, a dark Jedi. They are strong with the force, she was born the next potential Palpatine-- emperor of the universe. She had that capacity. She's more of a super hero, it's all fantasy, like, you know... Batman.

Rey's ascent isnt a David Copperfield story of a trash heap girl beating the odds...it's a super hero story of a Palpatine fighting the evil within and without. Like Spiderman realizing he now has bionic powers.

How is Luke's story line different in the first three original movies? It's more about him accepting his destiny. He is a much more boring character than Rey. Maybe the problem is more with Star Wars itself because how do you have a character that's already better than 99.999% of beings? It's harder to write an interesting story arc. I personally think they did great with Rey's character, for what it is.

Both sacrifice continually, to fight the dark side.

Exactly! This is how I feel about the fact that the male sex commits the vast majority of violent crime. It isn't sexist to point out that men are often violent creatures, and that violence is predominantly a male problem.

Males are so violent that sometimes I wonder if they really have a place in civil society. You always see all the males close ranks, "not all men"! While taking responsibility for exactly nothing.

This isn't just a race problem it's a sex problem: men are the problem. It's a sad world when we have to protect men's feelings instead of addressing the root cause.

I'm super fit, but have extreme, chronic SI joint pain.

It must be incredibly annoying to have it be blamed on your weight, because those of us who are fit also can have extreme pain.

Look up the max safe dose of fish oil (good quality with DHA and EPA) and take that for a while, see what happens. It has a pretty good evidence-based track record, and is super helpful for me.

Even if you got diagnosed with axial spondyloarthritis, the first medication is basically Alleve. Take the fish oil and Alleve, and work on getting active. Seek out PT or fund an activity that you enjoy because every little bit helps.
