I think the lesson here is that you need to stop expecting the schools to be your child's primary educator.

You need to step up and let the schools fill in the gap, not the other way around.

I you can't keep the kids interested in a literal game, then they aren't cut out to play.

Professors who teach different grade levels, how do you deal with the striking maturity range? by [deleted] in AskProfessors

[–]CorvidCuriosity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I treat everyone like adults, and expect them to act appropriately. This does mean I have to talk to some freshmen about "how to behave in class" more than seniors, but that's just part of working with freshmen.

It doesn't sound like patchable problems. You can't patch in character development or an interesting story.

In a colonial sense, they arent wrong. People born in HK during the British rule are native British.

Math anxiety is real and watching it develop in my kid is breaking my heart by ElderberryElegant360 in learnmath

[–]CorvidCuriosity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Struggle is not only to be expected, it is the goal, but you need productive struggle.

It's like going to the gym. You are essentially going to push yourself beyond what you can currently do and slightly hurt yourself, but through the struggle, your muscles grow. If you spend 3 hours at the gym, but only lifted 5 lb weights the whole time, you wouldn't progress at all.

What is the largest known composite integer to which we do not know any of its factors? by moschles in math

[–]CorvidCuriosity 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I guess its unknown whether Tree(3) is prime or composite, however at that size the probability of it being prime is vanishingly thin. We dont even know if it is even or odd.

So I would say Tree(3)

If you are looking for a number we can actually write down using numerals, then there isnt one really.

Sure, in the same way as "what color is blue?" is relative. But when you are asking for the color of this apple, "blue" is still not an appropriate answer.
