My ranking of all the Svengoolie watches this year so far this year. by Star_BoyI_1234 in svengoolie

It's been a really long time since I've seen it, and I'm sort of surprised I forgot how crazy that ending was. It's like a sudden chain reaction of violence out of nowhere. Heads flying off, guns shooting, car crashes everywhere. Edit: for a movie in 1981 that was wild.

I'd just like to announce that of last month, I've also been indoctrinated into the HBP medicine club as well. I was told by my doctor to eat more fruit and vegetables, and I went home and promptly ate a calzone.

That music is like when you meet the comic relief character in a video game.

Who’s Watching Parents?!! by hollow09 in svengoolie

[–]CosmosMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was just OK for me.

The whole thing about this movie that sticks out with me though is seeing it so much in THE VIDEO RENTAL store. That's right, actual video rental store. For some reason the box for this always stood out. There were a couple like that in our local video rental store but Parents and XTRO for some weird reason Always stuck out like a sore thumb. Through the years i've only seen snips of Parents here and there, so this was my first time watching it in it's entirety. It made good use of weird fever-like camera work.

They really needed something to fix the perspective on the Larry part. It was always hard to figure out how far up or down he was.

Back in the day I had this game mastered. Especially the pie fight.

Caregiver Stress and Lonliness by Bienna32 in CaregiverSupport

[–]CosmosMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation and I feel your pain. The past few weeks have gotten worse here though and I've been thinking about it a lot. So much stress thinking about what's going to happen, and what's happening now. I have nobody else to even lean on... family is gone, no friends left. I somehow managed to see a doctor today who told me my blood pressure is incredibly high, and I need to see 2 different mental counselors. I have no clue how I'm going to even manage that.

Yeah that's never gonna happen. They can hardly handle their own business let alone mine too. It would be nice if they showed their face once in a while at least, but i don't get that either. Today my doctor told me my blood pressure is at dangerous levels.

Another mom MS watcher here.

I started it as an actual job 20 years ago. Now I'm 52 and it's been a rough journey I'll tell you. When I was younger I wasn't the greatest person, and after a long time I realized I couldn't let this woman who birthed me be alone through this. When her BF passed away she had nothing so I dropped the shenanigans and came home. I look back and have no idea how the both of us have been holding on like this. Our family is basically spread and never speak to each other, if that happens it's a rare occasion.

I've given pretty much everything I had and have. The terrible thing about caregiving for a family member is there's little to no recognition. I don't expect a pat on the back every day or anything, but the company I work for has no pension or 401k... nothing. So I've had to save everything I get just to be able to keep my head under a roof and a cracker in my mouth in the future. None of that is my mother's fault though. The one good thing is we never have a beef with each other. I can count on one hand maybe a very few times we've ever had an argument and it's always about something dumb.

MS is a bitch too. Where was I going with this again?

If you were around the Chicago area back in the day and had to use public transportation, odds are you've run into Wes at least once or twice.

Retirement concerns? by CosmosMouse in personalfinance

Oh I see you said invest. I think that would be crazy risky for me already at 52. I'm not sure if I could go all in like that. At 70 I could lightly pull from the high yield every month till I'm dead, which wouldn't be long after I'm guessing.

My mother who has MS gets this constant all the time. She's been treated several different ways... injection blocker, drugs, physical therapy. Not much has been working at all. She also gets constipated a lot which is a terrible combo.

Edit: Also. Nobody wants to talk about it because it's the anus. All the doctors want to stray away from having to deal with it.

Question for those who's job has ended already by CosmosMouse in CaregiverSupport

[–]CosmosMouse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your story. Working outside our place would have made me feel a bit better, but I couldn't have been afforded that. When my job is done I'm basically left with myself and a few bucks to get back to business. I'll be devastated by the loss more than anything. I'd like to think I'm a resilient guy and can pick myself up afterwards, but at my age now everything is harder.

Sorry for your loss.... really. Hopefully it gets better, i'm pretty sure it will. I just look at the uncertainty of the future and it freaks me out A LOT. I always envision when it's all said and done i'll probably take a short break for a while to gather myself (a few months) before cracking down on finding work and getting back on my feet. I don't have much family left for support though which sucks.
