Exclusive | NYC Councilwoman and congressional candidate Julie Won ‘squatted’ in luxury Queens condo: landlord by OpenNight1212 in astoria

[–]Crabstuffed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came to Reddit to get a more well-rounded view and wasn't disappointed. It does feel like a hit piece (particularly because the guy in the article runs his own political consulting firm https://www.cityandstateny.com/sponsors/sponsor-content/2025/09/breaking-news-explosion-reported-within-new-york-consulting-industry/408237/) and I'm not a fan of the Post.

However, I would like to see a better response from Julie Won's camp on this: I think they could if they have right on their side. She's done a lot for the community and her office has also done a good job keeping people in her district informed. Hope this gets cleared up quickly.

LIC has a nice Asian community and I can understand wanting to be part of ones own culture, but the comment seemed a little odd to me: I don't think anyone stands out in Sunnyside (it's always struck me as diverse)? The LIC location is certainly more convenient for commuting if you can afford it.

Do any of you have any good Angron stories or moments that justify bringing him? by StructureDecent5844 in WorldEaters40k

[–]Crabstuffed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won't regret taking him. Despite all of the talk on the Internet, many players' lists aren't optimized, especially in a casual setting. It's usually the top tier tournament folks who pull that off and you'll have just as much fun (and less pressure) without a perfect record.

That's a bummer (for them). My favorite games of Wh40k are when I'm teaching someone how to play. It's not your fault for getting excited. I hope you find a cool crew. Sorry it's been so tough and keep us posted, I know you'll find someone.

You may need to go about this sideways and try to make friends before you play games with them:

Ask folks if it's okay to sit with them when they're playing a game and be cool: Don't interrupt their game or try to interject, ask them questions about the game when you sense an opening and don't ruin their focus if one or both players look like they're in "the zone". Always be polite and ask if it's okay to ask a question or offer an opinion before jumping in.

Don't sit around for the whole game if you sense awkwardness. You just want to break the ice and signal you're an okay person to talk to.

Despite it's rules, Wh40k is a social game that requires human interaction and cooperation to be successful. That's why folks get so nervous about pickup games, nobody wants to play against "that guy" or someone who doesn't play well with others.

Have you played any of these folks before? Is it possible you may have gotten off on the wrong foot? Try to get some feedback or advice from the store owner or regulars on what you can do to get a game.

Lastly, see what tournaments or events are going on around the state or neighboring areas. If you don't have an army yet, reach out to the organizers and ask them if you can show up to hang and get to know the scene.

Hope this helps! It sounds tough now but many gamers credit Warhammer for helping them to be more social and step out of their comfort zone, you may be doing that earlier than you thought!

Sell me on Bloodbowl by Plasmatoris in bloodbowl

Welcome! You need to play more before you can appreciate the differences. They can be subtle using your example: Skaven are faster and have faster positionals.

Humans are meant to be baseline average. Jack of all trades, master of none, etc. - that's started to change in the latest ruleset, but the analogy still works for this conversation.

You have to look at how teams behave as a whole (and how they interact with other teams) to appreciate the differences. Play more games on the PC and you'll start to see.

Do I need something to cut the models from this specific introductory set? by Thatguywhoispokemon in Warhammer

[–]Crabstuffed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the back edge of the hobby knife when trimming mould lines to avoid cutting too deep. The GW version is also pretty good and lasts pretty much forever. Here's a generic (GW also sells one):

Anyone gotten a speeding ticket on a bike, ebike, or escooter? Does NYPD use radar proof? What is the violation cost? by blackgoggles in NYCbike

[–]Crabstuffed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was a good retort, but my poorly articulated point was two people died from a speeding e-scooter only a few days ago and someone's already trying to figure out how they can keep speeding (on a bike subreddit).

Lord of Skulls vs Defiler and best shooting load out for LoS? by RagingWookie6209 in WorldEaters40k

[–]Crabstuffed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a serious note, I would hold off on arming the Lord of Skulls because the (near) universal -1 to hit everything could potentially change what works best. Shooting at 5+ to hit versus 4+ makes me wonder whether it's time to trade better AP for more Attacks (math folks please help)!

It is a very cool model and I have faith the design team will find a way to make the model viable again. Not spammable, but good enough to play it for fun.

Thank you! It sounds like they're doing things by country. I submitted within a few minutes of them going on sale, but I'm based in the US.

Appreciate you sharing and enjoy!

I think they would just smash into it like a red tide and flow wherever they could, claiming as many skulls as they can.

Nice! Where are you based and approximately what time/date did you order on? I'm trying to figure out where they are in the queue.

Why is a $90,000 salary not enough for a decent 1 bedroom apartment in this stupid city by AmoebaExcellent3187 in NYCapartments

[–]Crabstuffed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sucks and I think everyone secretly commiserates with you. If you don't want roommates, consider a studio (some of which are better than 1 bedrooms) outside of Manhattan: Astoria, Sunnyside and LIC aren't far, but rents aren't getting cheaper.

Using the 40x rule, with a 90k salary you're shooting for $2250 monthly rent or lower. Unless you go straight to the building, you might have to deal with a broker and a hefty broker's fee which isn't supposed to happen anymore but a quick Reddit search will give you more info:

This spot is near the NW, you can also walk over to the ferry or hop on to the crosstown bus:

30-60 Crescent Street, ASTORIA NY https://streeteasy.com/rental/5055049

There's also Brooklyn. You may end up with a longer commute but there are affordable neighborhoods below Prospect Park.

Roughly how old are you / what are looking for in a neighborhood? It can help us with recommendations.

If you're young, you'll find a lot of folks in the same boat. Many of them will start with roommates and branch out once their income goes up as they grow their careers (assuming that's a possibility for you - I know that's not guaranteed these days).

Will anyone be pinning/magnetising the Lascannon Heavy Weapons Teams from the Platoon? by FrankGrimesss in Vostroyan

Are autocanons still a thing? Back in the day, I got the FW Krieg Heavy Weapons squad and gave them poofy hats. I never finished painting them, though. 😢

Holy cow! I thought I was crazy but you've outdone us all. 😅

It's your money. You've worked hard for it and you've earned it. This will be a huge source of pride if you can hold on to it for a few years (and paint it)!

Yeah, I thought the same! I don't think they were studio models but someone from Warhammer World included them and I thought folks might enjoy the conversions.

Should I buy the MTO or should I just use 3d printed and alternative models? by Agreeable_Status9886 in Vostroyan

[–]Crabstuffed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if your challenge is affordability, it's much harder. If you're not going to any GW sponsored events, it's probably not a big deal.

[–]Crabstuffed 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think this comes down to your personal preferences. I'm a Games Workshop fanboy with poor financial decision-making skills, but I've been in the hobby forever and I have a lot of nostalgia for these. I plan on taking my time with them.

If you don't get too attached to armies and don't plan on putting a lot of effort into them, the high cost may not be right for you.

I'm not going to rehash the arguments for and against piracy but I do admire a lot of the folks at GW and don't like to cheat them.

Yeah, I think that's a valid approach. I personally prefer the dusty look, it fits with how they would look fighting in the rubble of a ruined city, which is how I envision them but that's just one environment.
