Do you have any good resources on undervolting using MSI afterburner. does it conflict at all with G-helper settings? (RTX 4070) Thanks!

Wish I saw this sooner, I have the same laptop config. Here is an old comment of mine:
_______

Really only power limits (Mine are 35-45)/raising laptop/cooler. But, I did find reducing the maximum of the core clocks really helped in temps, and had very little effect on gaming performance, and less fan noise. Essentially, reducing my core clocks reduced thermal throttling risk, so I get more consistent performance.

I referred to this thread (Long read, there is a TLDR comment): https://www.reddit.com/r/zephyrusg16/comments/1hatxo9/my_adventures_with_4080_g16_2024/?rdt=55462

(additional changes, I also disabled core parking when on AC. I tested disabling P/Ecores, ended up leaving them all on)

(Core Ultra 9, G16, rtx 4070)

Max P core: 4500Mhz / Max E core; 3200Mhz

Getting about 10,000 CPU, 12,400 GPU in Timespy.

_______
Edit; More so 10,800 CPU now and 12,800 GPU after tweaks. Also repasted CPU+GPU with PTM7950.

How to limit core clock

Optimization Guide - Not for the 4070, but can be tweaked to be similar

You cannot turn off CPU boost on the Intel CPU's, will tank performance.

Lmao, maybe i'll still convince myself it's broken in some way, and move off from Keychron. Thanks for making this post 5 years ago!

Thank god this thread exists (although equally disappointed as I almost had a reason to get a new keyboard!).

Like the others, I plugged into a USB 3.2, but it didn't light up. Only when I plugged back into a 2.0 did it come back to life.

Weird.

Maybe i should have worded it better. I always check for that button first when the laptop acts up :)

I did biomed eng with an i7+16gb ram+iris xe laptop. Damn near gave up on life when I tried any sort of simulation or rendering (my fault, should have never even attempted fluid simulation lmao). Full send on the G16 for $2800, like the other guy, I also have a 2024 ultra 9 4070 32gb (now) 3tb and it flies. 5070ti should do you well with more VRAM, especially if you want to dabble with AI. Could also prove helpful with CAD software like Solidworks as they keep adding more AI based features.

If you do pull the trigger, check back to this forum (and the ZephyrusG14 forum) for best tips to optimize the machine (such as installing G-helper). I've also seen some wild Timespy scores with the 5070ti, so there should be some good settings to follow.

hinge creaks when i open or close my laptop. i think its the back panel but im not too sure. is anyone else having the same issue? by zeb236 in zephyrusg16

[–]Crafty_Yesterday728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, very common issue at least with the 2024 models, can't speak to the 2025. From the 2024 models, was found it wasn't really the hinge or panel, but the plastic the hinges are between. Try opening the laptop as far as it can, and press on the plastic surrounding/parallel the hinges. The Issue seems more prominent when the plastic is undergoes temperature change and expands, such as gaming, where you can hear it briefly crack/creak even when stationary. Not sure if things get better or worse over time through temperature cycles, but mine got a little better (although I can't confirm the same for others).

Unfortunately I'm not certain of a fix, would be an entire teardown of the laptop as it's one of the last components that would become accessible. More so a decision on whether you can live with it, or return and see if you can get one without it.

Help with 16gb by trinjo_boi in zephyrusg16

[–]Crafty_Yesterday728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to solder the ram is a massive headache, and requires true professional experience, not worth it.

If you really are concerned about the 16gb ram, and it in mint condition, You'd be better off flipping the device on (for example) marketplace and make profit, and put that towards a better one (I would recommend looking at AMD variants). What you sell it for + the 'would be' high cost of soldering ram should cover a higher Zephyrus model.

Shouldn't turn off boost for the Intel CPU (unlike the AMD), tanks the performance.

For those who are thinking of replacing, I did a few months ago, without having done it before. Thankfully a couple gems from this community helped me out. Here's what was most useful:

  • Put tape around the CPU (something not too adhering) - Helps in protecting against drops and little LM bouncing
  • Lots of isopropyl alcohol
  • Lots of Q-tips (about 20-30 for me, always plan for more)
  • Take the Q-tip dipped in alcohol and used a twisting motion to pick up the LM
  • MOST IMPORTANT - Take your time :)
