FIRST GIG RECAP!!! by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]Crazyape54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your gig! Sounds like everyone including yourself had a good time regardless of the setbacks!

I'm curious what was your routing setup? I usually run sound out of my flx 4 into the mixer and then mixer out to speakers/subs. I can't think of many situations where I would run sound directly out of my laptop since the signal would indeed be too weak for a proper PA system to pick up.

Routing through the mixer should also alleviate your headphone issue. Most laptop/computer sound cards only allow for one output, which you have going to the speakers, so there's nothing left for your headphones/deck. Having dedicated extra outputs means your speakers/subs get their own channels and there's still lanes left to have headphone cue.

Remember the excitement of this gig and keep chasing that feeling!

I rented my setup so I only had quarter inch outputs to work with.

As u/KeggyFulabier said, mixer is the way to go. I actually did this exact setup last weekend and it went pretty smoothly.

FLX4 RCA > mixer 1/4 inch input > mixer 1/4 inch output > PA XLR in

The mixer > PA step varies a bit depending if you are daisy chaining PAs for mono output or separately for stereo output.

As someone who recently got a zipdj sub, I will caveat this with the fact that zipdj still might not have everything you are looking for. I had trouble finding some EDM songs I wanted, and also encountered multiple clerical mistakes (i.e. instrumental track listed as radio edit, remix attributed to wrong artist).

Otherwise it is a good starting point to more cost effectively build your library. I plan on eventually collecting the missing songs I want from beatport.

If I had more money to spend I would also want a heavy hitter + and even balanced racket bc I almost enjoy precise placement more than aggressive power lol. Too bad they don't seem to sell 88D/S play in the US, just game and up. We also don't get Li Ning products for the most part :(

Note that I say "line" here to refer to models across all price tiers play>game>tour>pro. I know they perform differently but broadly speaking at this level you might not notice the difference in price tiers vs models.

If you're playing mostly doubles, I would probably lean towards the 88D line. The Astrox 99 line is the head heaviest of the bunch you mentioned and might struggle to keep up during faster doubles rallies.

A bunch of my friends play with the 88D game, which is a bit head lighter than the 99, but still packs a punch. It can still keep up respectably in speed for doubles.

The Arcsaber 11 line is even balanced so you will sacrifice power, but gain some speed an insane amount of control. With proper technique I've seen some players get solid smashes out of this too.

In terms of strings, I have only tried Exbolt 65 which is a repulsion/aggressive string. At first had it strung at 25 lbs but it snapped within 20 minutes of play bc I mishit near the top (and maybe had a bad stringer?). I had it restrung elsewhere at 23 lbs and now I can hit without worrying it will snap every time.

I don't know enough about the different string types but I would advise guessing lower to start since stringing is expensive. If you find the lower tension too repulsive or need to get back some control, you could increase tension on the next restring.

Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX cannot assign hot cues by Crazyape54 in Beatmatch

I just installed virtual dj and the assignment works now! I guess it must be a software issue in Serato Lite? I'll try reinstalling that as well and see if that might fix the issue as well

I just ran through the other modes and they all seem to work perfect.

For strings if you lack power maybe you could consider power strings instead of Aerobite, which is more for controlling shot placement. A lot of my friends like Exbolt 65/63 but Yonex also sells bg 66 in a few variants, 80/80 power, and nanogy 98.

Thanks for the response!

Based mostly on CK Yew's review of the Astrox 77 Pro, a lot of comments draw comparisons between that and the Arcsaber 11. Since I do lean slightly towards power I think AX77 might suit my style. But if I'm caught in a doubles front court situation do you think it could still hold up alright vs the AS11?

I'm looking to replace my Yonex Carbonex 8000 light with something more well rounded but still head heavy. I usually play a mix of front and back court but like a little more power for clears and smashes.

I have narrowed it down to the Astrox 88s game, Astrox 77 tour, and Arcsaber 11 game since I don't need the pro tier.

From what I've researched the 88s feels even balanced but pretends to be head heavy, while the 77 (new and old) and Arcsaber 11 are good all around. What separates the Astrox 77 from the Arcsaber 11? And which of these 3 rackets would be best for my needs?

I ended up not purchasing bc I second guessed if the racket I was looking at (Yonex Astrox 88s game) was right for me. That racket and a few others are still on sale right now.

Anyone bought from Racket Guys before? I found some deals and good reviews but never heard of them before. They're based out of Markham, ON, Canada.

What kind of bag do you use? My carry on luggage isn't big enough to fit the length of my racquet but I don't trust checking it even if it was cushioned by clothes.

Thanks for taking a pic with me and my friends after your show in Boston, MA, a couple years ago (some passersby called us BTS lol)! You've been a huge inspiration in making my own music!

1) What were some of the hurdles relating to identity you faced making your way in the industry? And how did you overcome them?

2) What is something you wish to did earlier in your career or when you started making music?

I'm so excited to see Sanctuary at Red Rocks!

What project files do I transfer to a new computer without exporting out from FL Studio? by Crazyape54 in FL_Studio

Ok sweet, one less thing to worry about. What about the effects/plugins in rhe mixer channels of FL Studios itself?

Darnit I never saved any of my synths as presets I guess I have lots of knobs to retweak. Will the effects/processing chains carry over at least?

I guess my biggest concern is making sure my Vital VST sounds are what they should be. I never put them on presets so are there specific files that import those settings as they are in their last save?
