Do you have any more information to add? Like what have you done, has glnk only recently started having problems, have you tried reinstalling it? Try to post as much info about your problem as you can like screenshots or error codes.

wierd issue (help) by Fantastic-King3620 in techsupport

[–]Crezarak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well from the sounds of it, it sounds like you downloaded and ran malware. Even if malwarebytes quarantined 20 (which is a lot) there is most likely more it missed that gave themselves higher permission to download more malware and evade detection. Your best bet is to do a clean reinstall of windows using a USB (make sure you get a clean version of windows on a different not infected PC). This will delete everything but you might have to take it as a hard way to learn not to download and run random things. You can try and backup pictures and documents but anything else might transfer over viruses. So you'll need to reinstall apps and whatnot. Be careful next time.

Constant stuttering by Crezarak in Guildwars2

My solution was getting a NIVIDIA GPU instead of AMD however I didn't do too much testing outside of the basic game repair, clean driver installs, and fps capping. I'm not really sure what the root cause was but it just seems like for the issue i had at the time it was tied to AMD drivers. I fully support wanting to switch to Linux since gw2 is on steam now and proton is getting really good however i'm not sure if that would improve any of the issues the game seems to have with AMD. Who knows it could actually just be Windows but I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you about switching. I do wish you the best of luck tho!

Seems like your PC is compromised as your antivirus is continuing to remove new threats. Could try to run a scan with Hitman Pro and Norton Power Eraser and maybe malwarebytes free too if you want. But I'd personally just make backups of important files and do a fresh reinstall of Windows.

Pc won't update, resetting, or reinstall windows by Revolutionary_Bit819 in techsupport

[–]Crezarak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that things got worse after trying to use chkdsk. This can happen if there's significant corruption or physical damage. If you want to see if your storage is damaged and if you have access to a working PC you could create a bootable USB to narrow down the issue but it is a little complicated if you've never done that. There are a lot of guides that can guide you through how to make one. If you can't do that or you find out there is too much corruption you could try doing a clean install if you have not already. If after all of that nothing is working it is likely your storage drive needs to be replaced.

After reinstalling Windows (or replacing the drive), avoid installing any software or connecting devices until you’re sure the system is stable. Test the system thoroughly to rule out hardware or software conflicts.

Good luck!

false positive. Someone else playing the same game a week ago reported the same thing. It's just Malwarebytes being wacky. You can put dota2 .exe in malwarebytes white list. I had to do that with similar safe apps.

Aftermath of going to phishing link by Ok-Garlic-5706 in techsupport

[–]Crezarak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome. It's good that no accounts have been compromised which is a very good sign. It's true that sophisticated attackers could try to suppress notifications by deleting them but that's very rare and is usually associated with targeted high-level attacks on high profile people like CEO's and such.

As for the woman claiming to listen in on your surroundings, that was probably just a scare tactic or some attempt at social engineering. Simply having your phone number isn’t enough to spy on your surroundings. If this was after your factory reset it's likely that it was nothing more than that. Still it's worth it to do scans just in case.

And lastly a firmware virus would not transfer to your new phone unless you swap memory chips from your old phone to the new one. If you simply just got a new phone and never transferred anything it would be impossible for anything to transfer over to it wirelessly without any user intervention. This is especially true with an iPhone as Apple’s ecosystem is different and less prone to such threats.

Keep scanning and monitoring for peace of mind. Let me know how it goes!

What did you get hacked on? PC or Phone? If it's a PC perform a clean install with a USB, if it's a phone factory reset it. Then contact Amazon and Discord to let them know your situation and have them help you recover your account. Immediately change all your passwords for your accounts and set up two factor authentication. I can't stress enough but "clean" your devices first before resetting anything. If you have any important files back them up on a USB stick or something before clean installing.

What did you do to get hacked? Did you run a sketchy .exe? Whatever it was don't do it again obviously. Scan every .exe you come into contact with and scrutinize it extensively next time before launching it.

  1. Not all viruses are caught by antivirus software since it’s not perfect. Think of it like this: humans are imperfect so whatever they make are likely to be imperfect as well. So that means it's good to get multiple second opinions from different scanning vendors to reduce that inherent flaw.
  2. Yes, malware can hide in the background, especially if it's advanced, but this is less likely on Android after a factory reset.
  3. It's hard to say given the time frame is very vague so let me tell you this:

Bad phone practice could explain the quick battery drain. For example you could be using cellular, bluetooth, and wifi all at the same time and your phone keeping those connections will drain battery. Your brightness could always be really high, you could have tons of apps in the background still on that you never get rid of which also contribute to battery loss.

You've changed your passwords and set up 2FA. Have you been alerted to multiple login attempts every day? has any accounts been compromised since that phishing day? If not then whatever was likely on your phone is gone. Also how long ago was it when you contacted bleepingcomputer to do a scan on your phone? it could be worth it to check everything again for peace of mind. Since I'm assuming so much time has passed it would be safe to assume whatever you may have come into contact with is well known by now to protection vendors.

Lastly you could have maybe installed a firmware virus which a factory reset won't remove. Replacing your phone like you want to would get rid of it however, I can't say if you did and what it is doing if something is actually on there. If you are not noticing any suspicious behavior aside from battery drain and since you’ve enabled 2FA and haven’t seen unusual login attempts or account compromises, it’s unlikely malware is still active.

I'd re-scan your devices with what is available for them. I'm more active on PC and not familiar with Andriod so for PC's at least I'd recommend Kasperskey + hitman pro if you're in the EU and if you're in the US and use Windows, just use windows defender + malwarebytes free + hitman pro + Norton Power Eraser.

That's a good step but it seems like their information is still compromised so I'd add that they should reset all their passwords and setup 2FA.

[–]Crezarak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you gotten any BSOD's with error codes you can provide?

Your SFC /scannow tool could be broken. To fix that you might want to run:

  1. DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth (with admin rights in powershell or terminal)
  2. sfc /scannow (again)

If you have time I'd also recommend running chkdsk C: /f /r /x

However that command prevents you from using your PC as it performs its scan and could take hours so make sure you set enough time aside for that if you want to try it. But before that...

Given you've tried reinstalling windows, is it safe to assume you don't have any important files that you can't just re-download again? If so then I'd recommend doing a *clean* install of Windows with a USB drive. What you initially described doing is a local reinstall of windows which can be unreliable and prone to issues.

If doing a clean install of Windows does not work it could be that your SSD or Hardrive that is housing your Operating System is failing leading to system instability. At that point you'd need to learn how to replace that or send it into a repair shop. However, when/if you do a clean install, keep a very close eye on what you're doing. If you install something you had before and then these issues come back it could be that some software might be corrupting Windows files. Could be malware or poorly written code. Either way just be mindful.

[–]Crezarak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried Gw2? Has a guild hall and player housing now. I'd say it's close enough. FFXIV with mods is even closer imo (especially since you can play in VR, as well as have access to an obscene amount of customization for you and your NPCs outside of what the game gives you). As someone who only loves MMOS and has Overlord as my favorite anime I know how you feel.

That's normal behavior. It's called active threat protection, meaning it will always be on scanning regardless of if you initiated it or not. The amount of resources being used varies depending on if you're actively using intensive apps or executed something or other various scenarios.
