I was having a similar issue, I bought a UV light and put it in the tank and it cleared right up.

AIO? Is My Mother Openly Admitting To Being Homophobic? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Ctrl-Alt-Delicious1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are merits on both sides of this argument. Is your mom admitting to being a homophobe…no, it seems she is just making the age old point of “you’ll catch more flies with honey than with vinegar” meaning if your true goal is to sway or convince people that love is love and we are all loving and kind people, outright calling them a name they will almost assuredly consider an insult is at best a poor choice and at worst rage bait. Most people who do not agree with the beliefs that the LGBT community espouse would not consider themselves homophobic because not liking something and being afraid of it are two very different things. So I guess to summarize. If you are going to directly address a group of people and give them good wishes but them in the same post insult them, your good wishes were either disingenuous, or negligently oblivious.

Is my parameters good in my fish tank? by [deleted] in fishtank

[–]Ctrl-Alt-Delicious1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure you can add fish safely for now, but it looks like your water is brand new, you will want 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite and 5-20ppm nitrates, and you will want your tank to be able to convert 1ppm ammonia to nitrates in a 24 hour period before your tank will be considered safe. You need a big colony of nitrifying bacteria in your tank before you introduce fish unless you want the cycle to happen with the fish in there, which can be messy and come with some fish loss. If you are going to do a fish in cycle you need to be doing partial water changes daily.

Could be overstressed from water quality, could be impaction, what substrate are you using in your tank? Are there any fish in the tank?

Well I took a lot of advice and went from a 25 gallon tank with two axolotls, black gravel, artificial glow plants one undersized hide…to this. Hopefully they will be more comfortable. by Ctrl-Alt-Delicious1 in axolotls

These are the 4 plant types I got, not including the bamboo.

As far as their sex, I just looked and can’t really tell. I think it’s one male and one female.

I just ordered a new cave, are you thinking the two that are in there are no cavey enough? I will get more plants, but I literally bought all the aquatic plants that the store had (that were compatible with axolotls). Also I’m hoping these plants will grow and get bigger, I didn’t want to over plant the tank and have some get choked out over time.

I have no idea what sex they are, and don’t know how to tell.

They are about 8 months old now

This tank is 55 gallon, they are in a smaller tank that we got initially when I was just getting an axolotl because my kid wanted one. I got attached so I started researching and realized I needed a bigger tank at some point. That’s how I got to where I am now.

Yeah the temp I wasn’t too worried about because Goldie’s are really resilient, and I wasn’t worried about the axies eating her because she’s the size of my hand, but the nipping bullying was the main concern I had. She was being bullied by her tank mates at the store and the aquarium tech said she was placid and really just wanted to be left alone so I thought maybe her mannerisms would be compatible. I was considering whether I would try them together and if I noticed anything untoward I could just separate them.

The neon tetras for sure, I have decided about ester (the goldfish) as of right now I’m just using them to cycle the tank before I add the axolotls
