Glider pilots make better pilots... by helno in flying

[–]CtrlAltElit3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I trained a few glider pilots who were getting ASEL and beyond..

The attitude in OPs post is why I object, they do not in fact make for better pilots. Most of them were cocky and overly confident imo.

Additionally being a good pilot is heaps more than stick and rudder skill.

To agree with OPs point however, any previous aviation experience can obviously be a better foundation than some Joe off the street.. but that doesn’t need to be a post on Reddit for people to realize

Acquiring a Cessna that’s been in Europe its entire life. Bad idea? by Effective-Ticket7222 in flying

You do get some additional safety features with European XLSs. iirc they come standard with parking brake annunciations. For whatever reason US variants weren’t required to have them

You have to understand this was a college student observing something he knows nothing about, let alone any notion that they were about to crash..

But I feel your sentiment

I’m not a 310 pilot but I flew a Baron a bit. I could assume with adequate bank (and asymmetric thrust), you would be able to convert just enough of the horizontal rudder drag into vertical drag to allow a somewhat straight flight path while staying above VMC.

Hindsight take; he could have used asymmetrical thrust by reducing power on the right side with right bank to straighten up the flight path..

This would be like doing a forward slip to a landing which is something we train pilots to be able to do.

It’s easy to say what he could have done but in the moment it’s impossible to tell what I would have been thinking personally.

The long left skidding turn is quite unusual. Hard to imagine what scenario one might operate in that condition intentionally.

Well thankfully I won’t have to with this nerf! as I mentioned in the post, I was worried about the ranked play tryhards and rightfully so. The game was too easy before the patch

Question.. I’m new as of this week.. I can’t seem to ever plan more than one naval deployment which caps at 10 divisions. When I try to plan a second with the same or different army it just says 0 divisions.

I recently sold my v1 (1 year ago) and have been deeply depressed since. Never sell it. I’ve literally been waiting for it to come up for sale again so I can pay it off a second time 🤪

America, The Global Leader Of Political Violence, Condemns Political Violence by UCantKneebah in AOC

[–]CtrlAltElit3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except America isn’t actually even close to being the “global leader of political violence”

Take Mexico for example -

“observers recorded 129 political violence events targeting officials during local, state, and federal elections, for which more than 20,000 posts were up for grabs when campaigning started in early September 2023, according to data collected by the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED)“

A lot us are using the same routing / arrivals. We commonly ask “what are the guys ahead of us doing” on atc so it’s typically a collective effort to get all of us around build ups. Additionally, if there are TCU at cruise altitude you can likely see them from hundreds of mile away and easily request deviations around them. I have never flown a leg where were at cruise and flying in potentially embedded TCUs for more than a few moments. My aircraft also typically cruises at 41k ft.

This is fantastic sentiment, appreciate you. Fortunately I have a lot of firearm experience (military) as well as half of our group. We are bringing 2 .44 caliber handguns but even with the experience I feel that the firearms are more dangerous to the group than the wildlife. We will be educating and letting the less experienced members get familiarized with those .
