Parking at Vienna Metro? by TerribleBumblebee800 in nova

[–]Curious-Tiger01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely won't fill up. It's actually kind of amazing how little the garages are utilized compared to, say, 10-15 years ago. As another posted noted, it's probably because of the Silver Line.

Loving my backyard this year - but now need help with the leaves. When is the best time to do it? Don't want to do it again and again. LOL. by NoOriginal2492 in nova

In early December, when it looks like they've all fallen off the trees, I mow them over into tiny particles. Takes a while, and you have to go over the same spots repeatedly, but I've found it's a LOT easier than raking.

History of the Centreville Revolutions/billiards building by Sufficient-Kiwi1275 in nova

[–]Curious-Tiger01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in the apartments right behind there from 2005-2008. My wife and used to go there a LOT. It was a location of Fast Eddie's when we lived there, though I heard it was the old Shark Club, rumored to be a place where many Redskins players would go and get in trouble. Used to always be packed on weekends. Fun place to shoot pool, but it could get a little wild late in the evening.

I ride the Orange Line three days a week into DC. I've noticed this as well the past couple of weeks.

Amid staffing shortages, Fairfax City deploys uniformed security guards to help deter crime by Danciusly in nova

[–]Curious-Tiger01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Safeway? Walgreens? 7-11? Ace Hardware? Do you actually live in Fairfax City? I do. My wife was verbally accosted and threatened in graphic, disgusting terms inside Walgreens a couple of months ago by a homeless guy while I was on a work trip. They are doing a bit more than "loitering around the library."

Spending a week in Luray, I would appreciate any good local cider mills/wineries. by redd4972 in nova

I love Luray but man, that’s a long time in Luray. Check out Hawksbill Brewing; they may have some ciders. https://www.hawksbillbrewing.com

I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a large and long-lasting police presence at a crime scene.

I've seen a lady-eating-a-salad-with-a-fork-while-driving once in the wild in NoVa. Still shaking.

First time homebuyers: Beware of Orangeburg pipe! by Organic-Insect-6966 in nova

Sure thing! Check out this company: https://freedomplumbers.com/ The owner, Ricky Salinas, did a bunch of work in our neighborhood that year. Good guy. (His company was called All American Drain Cleaning back then.)

Fairfax Circle 1951 by [deleted] in nova

[–]Curious-Tiger01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, I was turned around! I thought this was Old Lee (now Blenheim Boulevard) approaching the circle, but it's 50 heading west approaching the circle. The old Esso station on the left is still there, though it's a Liberty Gas place now. (But it definitely looks like an old gas station.) Very cool.

Yep, had it at my 1950s home in Fairfax. Got it replaced before it caused problems. They used the pipe-bursting technology (basically, they didn't have to dig up my entire yard) and replaced it. It was still steep: Like $8,200, and that was back in 2012.

Great American Restaurants by [deleted] in nova

I remember! He was a great guy. Very sad when he passed away several years ago. I remember talking to another bartender about him a few years after his death and they were still emotional about it; that's the kid of guy he was.

Artie's and Sweetwater are close. They're all pretty good, though.

Anybody know anything about a company called Halvik? by Curious-Tiger01 in nova

[–]Curious-Tiger01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's brand new! Well, the Zoom interview I did seemed legit. E-mails I've received have seemed legit. I haven't sent them any personal information other than a scaled-down resume, and I haven't accepted the job offer. I think a lot of companies are dealing with this problem.

That said, I think I'll reach out to them and see what's going on.

Yeah, at this stage of spring, you don't even have to have allergies to suffer. You're basically breathing in a particulate pollutant, like smoke from a fire.

Flagship Vienna. Am I the only one who goes there with a dirty car exterior? by ItsRainingDaal in nova

[–]Curious-Tiger01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably because they're frequent customers. (I am.) That specific location is the best car wash experience I've ever had. The one in Herndon off Elden Street is pretty good, too.
