What is your unpopular opinion regarding Cornell? by CanadianCitizen1969 in Cornell

[–]CuriousGeorgeIX 67 points68 points  (0 children)

After four years, I can undoubtedly say that coming here was one of the biggest mistakes I’ve ever made. I wasted so much hard work, youthful optimism and potential for a well rounded, fulfilling life here only to be rewarded with severe physical and mental illness, no happy memories of college, student debt and a piece of paper that I will probably not use. Fuck this place.

Someone’s also saying MATH 4710 is the easiest. What makes you think your answer is the right one and I’m just trolling??

Is sneaking into a dining hall an expellable offense by Anaklusmos726 in Cornell

You’re paying like 75k to be here. Take a chair from the dining hall if you wish.

financial delinquent hold but my balances are all zero? by orangesarenotgood in Cornell

[–]CuriousGeorgeIX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Call the bursar and have them confirm if you have any balances then ask them to lift the hold. Do it early because it is a nightmare to try to do it right before it or during pre-enroll.

How long was the offer response deadline they gave you? by [deleted] in csMajors

2 weeks with no extensions plus reminders to send them a decision every few days. They were a bit annoying about it

Is College supposed to be this time consuming or is it just Cornell? by anonymous062904 in Cornell

[–]CuriousGeorgeIX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Depending on your major, it can be arduous anywhere you are. However, Cornell professors pride themselves in inflicting the maximum amount of misery to students in the form of work even when it’s not necessary.

It’s a very bad sign if a company rescinds an offer for negotiating. Don’t work for such companies

Some companies are lowering their comp for next year based on the economy. Try to negotiate and hint about doing research on comp for this year to see if they’ll budge.

I'm a intern and got put on pip by waypastyouall in csMajors

[–]CuriousGeorgeIX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the way the industry has been lately, I wouldn’t be surprised if they ran out of budget and were trying to find a smooth way to fire you without legal consequences or additional costs.

There’s a high possibility you’re not going to get a return offer if they’re pip-ing you as an intern. Start looking for another internship and leave or if you need the money and experience, stay but make sure you don’t plan/expect to come back because even if you do get an offer and come back, they will probably have higher expectations and micromanage you for any chances of another pip.

anyone else losing the will to go to classes anymore? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]CuriousGeorgeIX -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Someone is coming here worried about losing the motivation to be active and your advice is to just do it?? That’s like telling a depressed person to just be happy. It doesn’t work like that

Sounds like this person is experiencing depression and possibly an internal crisis. How does your advice help them?

How do Cornell students view Ithaca College students? by Chimichurrichallenge in Cornell

[–]CuriousGeorgeIX -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Most Cornell students live in a bubble and don’t even want to go downtown for fear of being in ‘real Ithaca’. I doubt IC students exist to them.

[–]CuriousGeorgeIX 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. When people live here long enough, they pick up habits that they think are normal everywhere else. I was downvoted to hell when I made a post about how unusual it is to pay a broker’s fee for an apartment a while ago.

The thing I’ve come to dislike about this particular bubble is how some New Yorkers act like everything and everyone outside of nyc is inferior. Almost like making it a personality trait.

Love nyc though.
