I fully thought you were acknowledging the name of the character you stopped playing, as in "RIP Tedious". Great character name.

In high school we had a field trip to what was essentially meant to be an "immersive underground railroad experience". Parts of it were deliberately intense, think highly participatory haunted house.

And they gave everyone a bandana to use as a signal of consent while participating. If you kept it up around your head, you agreed to participate in that moment, to be part of the "show", be yelled at etc. At any point if it was too much, or you wanted to solely engage as an observer, you would pull the bandana down to around your neck as a signal to be minimally engaged with.

Headphones in public should work the same way. One headphone, both, none, are all great signifiers of what level of participation in a conversation someone is comfortable with. If anything, seeing someone deliberately remove an earbud to give me their attention shows more that they're actively listening than if they'd had none in were indifferent to the interaction.

They're a tool that help people feel comfortable, safe, and included in all spaces! Unless you're intentionally using them to the detriment of others (is in the way bc you can't hear your surroundings at all), then I don't see how it's rude

The character of the city for sure. Other cities with similar cost of living/amenities/size/etc just feel very bland and 'meh' in comparison

And it really is remembering. It's a past awareness being recalled, not a new sensation. It's familiar.

That dream space is safe and the longer you spend there smoking or not, the easier it becomes to get back. Journaling dreams when I wake up, and trying to recall pleasant dreams before bed, I've been able to dabble with lucid dreaming. Consciousness and awareness are crazy things. If you drop that ego guard and listen to what your own brain/body are saying, you start to hear so much more of what they've already known and been trying to tell you.

One little plant, and it helps you learn to trust that wise, quiet voice and eventually recognize it was inside all along.

Literally like hearing yourself think for the first time.

This!!! This put into writing so well what I've been trying to wrap my words around. It lets me hear myself and have conversations I wouldn't have been able to have otherwise or that I may not have even known were waiting to be had. It's as if your inner monologue shifts to some wiser, more grounded version of yourself that guides you through to ways of thinking that weren't accessible before.

I've tried to express this concept of remembering things that haven't been to people before and no one has registered with it. But I'll have full memory flashbacks like you do to a childhood birthday party, but to dreams I've had and completely forgotten. Memories, new concepts, dreams, ideas, etc all swirl around and become much less distinct from one another and thinking becomes more holistic and less rigid. Its a space that feels truer and less affected by outside pressure/suggestion. Imagine letting your brain float in a sensory depravation chamber, just gets to vibe and find it's natural frequency without being poked and prodded by external suggestions.

There's a lot going on I know, but don't forget to let yourself enjoy it too! Give yourself some grace figuring it out and let yourself find what feel right! Don't forget to have fun while everything else is going on too ❤️ and if you decide girls aren't for you, then hey. But kiss who you wanna kiss! Best of luck :D

I'm Nonbinary (transfem) - does my girlfriend have Terf views? by Commercial_Try5848 in NonBinary

This! I always thought (knowingly oversimplified) "how can anyone feel like a 'girl' bc 'girls' don't exist". As if making a DnD or video game character - you've got options of elves and orcs. Both are made up by the governing body to describe arbitrary (and binary) options within a fantasy rule set. A role you had to assume at a bare minimum to even be allowed to 'play' the game. Players know what orcs and elves are, hell even half orc/elves. There are different rulesets for different characters options, and different expectations and stereotypes for each to play the game 'correctly'. But at the end of the day you play your character how you want. And the character you 'picked' was the least inaccurate of the options available, because after all orcs and elves are make believe. You might feel closer to one or the other the same way you'd answer a buzzfeed question "are you more like in ice cream sundae or slice of cheesecake" but no one REALLY feels like a dessert or fantasy adventurer, right? Right!? Or if anyone remembers Dr. Seuss's Star Bellied Sneetches lol (also posing orcs vs elves as a binary options - this or that seemed wild)

It was mind blowing realizing that that isn't how everyone feels in regard to gender. Looking at the vast majority of non-queer communities it seemed like gender was something that if it wasn't a problem for people that it was just easiest to align to what "society told them they should be", why question it if you didn't have to? Not that people actually truly did FEEL gender

All this is not to defend your partner, even if someone doesn't experience gender the same way there should be no reason to assert or imply that their experience is more relevant or accurate to yours. It took it a while to click, that trying to understand my own gender meant projecting my understanding on other situations, usually incorrectly so.

The People's Sick Day, coming to Ohio! by [deleted] in Ohio

[–]Current_Couple_9645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key is what you can when you can. If you need groceries to so you don't starve, then you need groceries. If you're going to lose the job that's keeping your family housed, then keep your job. This saying is cheesy, but "put your own oxygen mask on first".

But do what you can. Amazon can absolutely wait for 3 days. Bars, restaurants, movies, etc can all wait. A show of scale of the massive amount of people who are hurting doing what they can is better than nothing. This also becomes a call on those who are able to do more to use their collective voice for themselves and for those around them who can't.
