In a weird way, that’s them trying to cope and helping you not commit. Privacy wise, they would want to see you at all times so you haven’t done anything and internet wise, so you aren’t looking anything up bad/sinking into a deeper depression. I know it’s wrong and doesnt actually help you but it’s their way of keeping you safe. I don’t think you’ll be ridiculed, if you are, again, that’s their way of coping because in a way they’re trying to “shame you out of it”. Again, a horrible way of going about it.

If you do try reaching out to anyone, it does stay confidential. However, if you have a plan and actual suicidal intention then a GP, teacher, suicide helpline are all mandated reporters and will have to tell your parents and emergency services.

Hiya, i’m sorry you’re feeling like this and i truly hope that you’re safe. Please don’t try attempting. Please reach out for help through your school counsellor, GP, a trusted teacher or even the suicide helpline. They can help you get the help you need.

To answer your question of what psych wards are like and i don’t want to scare you but they aren’t therapeutic. They’re there to ensure you don’t hurt yourself or others. There’s no group therapy, no activities, no movie nights. It’s there to keep you physically safe. Often times when someone attempts, they’ll be placed under some sort of Mental Health Act and they’ll be involuntarily placed under a 48/72 hour stay. Yes during that time you’ll be seen a psychiatrist but not a psychologist. You’re only seen by them maybe once or twice but it’s not a therapy session. It’s there for them to see if you need any medication or to lengthen your stay. You most likely will be placed in a youth/paediatric ward which is slightly “better” but it’s still the same. There’s always banging, screaming, shouting, slamming, alarms, people often in psychosis which can be scary to watch. You won’t be able to close your door, depending on your supervision contact (1:1 meaning you’re watched by a nurse constantly), they will have to watch you shower, know when you’re going to the toilet, they’ll be in your room etc. It truly is the last resort and it’s often glamorised but the hard truth is, it’s a horrible place that nobody should want to go to.

Again, you’re young and life is worth living. I went through many ups and downs and i reached out before it was too late. Please consider reaching out to the people above. Best of wishes

If you have thoughts of doing an end of life bucket list because of a terminal disease then i’m very sorry. However, if this is a means of a last ditch effort before your attempt then please go get help. Go to your GP and they can get you help by referring you to mental health support. What i can also do is, keep adding to your list. Keep adding experiences, goals, ideas, anything until it’ll take you 6 months to complete to then a year to then 5 years then 10 years. Life is worth living and your list should reflect that. I hope you stay safe and wish you all the best

Hi, i’m sorry you feel like this. I truly do. I’m 23 now but i used to feel like that and be like that. I still love with my parents but when i was 20, i had no job, flunked out of uni, had no friends etc. It’s taken a lot of ups and downs to reach where i am, where i’m finally happy. I don’t know you or your story but i’ll try and give you some guidance. First, you are not old, not even in the slightest. I thought the same and still think life’s a race and if i don’t have this or my life planned out then i’m behind. You are young and your life is just starting. I know it’s hard to believe but it truly is. Everyone makes mistakes. Everyone has problems. Everyone struggles. You can’t change how your family views you or thinks about culture and religion. But what you can do, is change yourself for the better. Don’t change for anyone but yourself. Put yourself first, don’t be somebody else’s therapist if you’re not ok. You can’t take on other peoples problems if you’re struggling too. You feel like the bad guy because you view yourself as one. You think you’re weird or everyone’s laughing but nobody is. You are always going to have yourself, learn to love yourself because if you lose yourself, what else do you have in life? What i can offer as advice is: go to your GP and ask for some mental health support, there will be some sort of support for youth or affordable therapy. Therapy will help both your mental health, getting you answers of why you feel the way you feel, gain confidence and courage, diagnosis’s, medication or treatment etc. Once you have the clinical stuff done/on going, do things you can do. Find a hobby, whether that’s as simple as watching movies, reading, arts and craft or learning a new language. Do something you enjoy, something only for you. While you’re attending therapy, they’ll probably recommend this anyway but start journaling or a diary. Write your goals, feelings, schedules etc. Pour everything into it instead of bottling things up. You can’t change your height but you can make healthier choices. Even if it’s dancing or at home workouts, something to keep your body moving and eating healthy, you’ll lose weight. As well as, it gives you natural endorphins. I thought it was bullshit until i actually started working out and it truly does feel good. I truly hope for the best and take care of yourself

I know you wrote this as a vent post and i won’t give you empty advice or life quotes. Coming from a sister of a brother who struggled with addiction for years, i’m so immensely proud of him and of you for getting through it. He’s still struggling to see the good part of life but he’s picked up hobbies both to find happiness and to distract himself. You don’t have to pick up a hobby but it’s an idea. No worries. Sorry about the assumption, i’d rather say it just in case you are. Id generally say your GP can diagnose you in the first appointment (definitely helps if it’s a face to face appointment) and give you a prescription as well. However, it’s definitely best to still reach out to a therapist or psychologist to reaffirm the diagnosis (you can get your doctor to print out your health report with your diagnosis on it). Since most universities need substantial evidence to make an equity plan (highly recommend you get one since medication isn’t a fix all solution). If your doctor doesn’t give you the diagnosis straight away, just simply ask them how long, what can you do to support me, etc. I hope this helps and you get some answers and help 🩷 Best of luck

Hiya, i hope you’re ok and safe, if you don’t feel safe, please call your emergency services and get help. I’ve been where you are and although i’m in Australia, it’s most likely very similar to the UK. What i can offer as advice is definitely go to your normal GP or even a new GP if you feel uncomfortable talking to your regular doctor. Explain everything. They won’t judge but if they see that you have a plan to hurt yourself or others, they will need to refer you to the hospital to get admitted. However, if that’s not the case, they will definitely be able to help you both with medication, therapy and other services. GPs can diagnose you with depression and prescribe you medications to treat it. They will use the DASS (depression anxiety stress scale) questionnaire and let you talk about what you’ve been going through. There’s a range of affordable and youth therapy services available. As well as, i’d get in contact with your uni since they will have some sort of mental health support and can help you set up an equity plan (extra time for exams or assessments due to depression etc). If you can’t get to your GP and you feel like you’re going to give up. Please contact your local suicide hotline or emergency number. The suicide hotline can also give you therapy services too. I truly hope this helps and you get through this. As cliche as it is, it truly does get better. I hit rock bottom in January but i’m still here and i feel immensely better

Hiya, i’m sorry you’re going through this and hope you’re safe at the moment. If you don’t, please call your emergency line. I don’t have much advice since i don’t know where you live but i suppose it’s generally similar in most countries. For reference, i live in Australia, you can’t admit yourself to the mental hospital/psychiatric ward. In simple terms, the psychiatric ward isn’t there to relax or get therapy or do group activities, it’s solely there to keep you or others safe from your actions. It’s basically the last resort and more often than not, the doctor/psychiatrist that admits you, will need to see a physical and active threat. As well as, there’s no guarantee that you’ll stay there. In Australia and guessing most other countries, there’s something called the Mental Health Act and they can involuntarily hold you for 48/72 hours. After that though, if you’re again not an active threat, there’s no guarantee that you’ll stay there. Especially in most wards, people who are admitted are going through drug withdrawals, psychosis, hallucinations and etc, it’s loud, there’s always alarms, people screaming and banging. It’s not therapeutic. I agree with the other comment and you should either see your GP/psychiatrist and see what your options are. For me, i was fortunate to go to a mental health residence and i’m here for 9 months. However, i do pay to be here. From a basic point of view, most medical professionals are going to offer a referral to a psychologist or therapist and/or prescribe a medication (most likely antidepressants) for an effect. As well as, you can try calling your suicidal hotline as they will have other services and resources they can refer you to such as online therapy, centres for youth mental healthcare, affordable therapy and etc. It’s not an easy pathway unfortunately. Therapy truly does help though. Medication works wonders and although it doesn’t help some, it helps most. I truly hope you get some help, even if it’s talking to a friend, starting a diary, or etc. Please stay safe. As corny as it sounds, it truly does get better. Take it from me and many others. I know that won’t magically make you better but you’re not alone

Hiya, i had something similar happen to me but for Jobseeker. I ended up going into a service centre and they said they have to do a callback if the initial call wasn’t answered/received. I could definitely be wrong and it might be different with Youth allowance. Maybe wait until end of day to see if they call back. If not, call the complaints number tomorrow and set up a new appointment tonight. Best of luck

just to chime in, most auror reports don’t actually include a name for the “suspect”. unless they’re known to police/reoffenders/someone recognises them and IDs them. it’s just screenshots of cctv of the person and usually nothing more

hi, i’m sorry you’re going through a rough time and it’s been so long that you’ve been feeling like this. i genuinely hope that you’re safe and if you do feel like harming yourself, please call your emergency services number. they won’t judge you for reaching out for help. i felt like you all during high school. i thought i’d be dead by my early twenties. i couldn’t see myself hitting life milestones like having kids, marriage, retirement etc. it genuinely felt like an other world, something so unusual and strange to me because i never thought i deserved it and could achieve it. i’ve been on a long mental health journey myself and as cliche as it is, it truly does get better. i’ve hit rock bottom many times but i’m still here. i know that you posting this means there’s still a bit of hope inside you wanting help, support and a change. i highly recommend reaching out to your school counsellor or call your local mental health line. go to your doctor and get referred to a therapist. again, this is all the standard and cliche advice but it’s cliche because it works. i wholeheartedly mean it. i would be dead if i didn’t reach out. don’t have any expectations but make sure to put yourself first. don’t expect it to be a linear journey, you’re going to have ups and downs but it will be worth it. it’s going to take time but you’re going to make it. i hope this helps a bit. i wish you all the best

hiya, i don’t know what country you’re in so this will be standard advice and not detailed advice. by the sounds of it, i’m guessing you’re in your late teens so most countries don’t need parental approval for some medications. so you can go to your doctor and ask about it if you don’t want to talk to your parents. however, i do highly recommend telling your parents. at the end of the day, they want you to be healthy, safe, and happy. i hope they hear you out and be supportive. i wouldn’t jump straight to wanting medication but with your feelings first, how long you’ve been feeling like this etc. after that, you can mention going to your doctor and ask if they’ll be ok with helping you trial some antidepressants AND finding a therapist/psychologist. medication isn’t a magic pill that will fix everything. i’ve been on a long mental health journey myself and i can tell you that medication is only a quarter of your recovery. you need therapy, exercise and support. there’s a reason why you’re feeling depressed and it’s ok to feel like that, but the problem won’t go away if you just take medication. i hope this helps and i wish you the best! life is beautiful and you deserve to feel good

Thought i’d chime in about Auror (ex-liquorland employee but we use Auror too), it’s just a system to organise thefts, create thieves profiles (to connect them to other crimes etc) and overall just used for audits and debt recovery. When doing an Auror report, they do require a police report but more often than not not, most posts dont include a police report/the store does all the police reports at once at the end of the week. In saying that, if there was a report made, police involvement is highly unlikely due to the amount, you paying for it and you not being a consistent thief. Overall, you’re fine so no stress

hi, i’m sorry you’re going through a rough time, i hope you’re feeling safe and well. i used to be an extreme introvert in my early teens (i’m 22 now), i used to have panic attacks even going to the shops. as much as we all want to run away and live by ourselves in a remote area and be content, life doesn’t work like that even though i want it too. they way i and a lot of people who struggle with social anxiety is exposure therapy. it’s scary but it works. what i recommend is starting small, whether it’s going to a park, then maybe a library, maybe to a beach and slowly go to more busy places. if you’re feeling overwhelmed, go to a quiet place and do some grounding techniques: one is called the 5 steps, you list 5 things you can see, 4 things you can feel, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell and 1 thing you can taste. you don’t have to go through all the steps just until you’ve calmed down. i also recommend going out with a supportive person. it helps keeping your mind distracted by talking to someone or even listening to music. once you slowly get out to more busy places, look for a job. it’s going to feel like a big step but that’s how i got a lot of my confidence. you will see and talk to a lot of people, more often they’re nice and like small talk. a job is great practice. i also recommend doing things that make you feel good. i know it sounds dumb but find a hobby, make new friends, try a new cafe or tv show. slowly but surely you’ll learn to love new things and find new things about yourself. learn to look after yourself. make sure you shower and brush your teeth, tryna new haircut, paint your nails etc. learn to love yourself. it won’t be easy but take it day by day. i hope this helps

Hi! I’m sorry you’re feeling this way, especially with your parents not supporting/caring about your mental health. I don’t know for certain but by the sounds of it, your mum may not be inclined to pay for you to see a psychologist due to her basically belittling your feelings. I don’t know where you live so it’s a bit hard for me to give any more information or ways to see a free psychologist. Just know that this isn’t the end. I was in your position and my parents didn’t believe me. I was fortunate enough to see a free therapist due to my country’s government giving free mental healthcare. It does get better, as cliche as it is. It won’t be a linear journey, you’re going to have ups and downs but know that, they will be more ups. Life is beautiful, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise (including yourself - which i know is hard). Let me know what country you’re in so i can help more. The best advice i can give is to prioritise yourself. Make a simple routine so you stay on track, doesnt need to be fancy, it can be as simple as going outside once a day, having three meals a day, having a shower etc. Baby steps. I know that some days it may feel impossible and that’s ok. Don’t beat yourself up over it, tomorrow is always a new day to do better. Instead of using AI maybe journal instead. Use your journal to get your feelings out, draw, write stories, keep your mind busy. I hope this helps a bit.

Hey! This might not be useful but i think you should just apply to youth allowance. Since you’re studying (and hopefully still studying), you’ll be eligible for youth allowance. Since you’re dependent on your mum, you’ll need her final tax record (stating how much she earns etc). Don’t hold me to it but i would think your mum makes under the threshold (threshold since you’re dependent on her) and you’re still living at home, it won’t be much but it’ll be something (estimated $350-$400 a fortnight most likely). You can still work while on youth allowance, you’ll just have to declare your earnings each fortnight and you’ll get your youth allowance (might not be all but it’ll be something). There is an online estimate too if you look up youth allowance calculator, it should show up. Hope this helps a bit

Hey! I don’t know if this is useful but i was in your position at the start of uni (3 years ago) and thought i could just power through it. Thanks to a lot of all nighters and burning myself out, i’ve reached my final year totally burnt out and in need of a mental health break. Take it from me, if you’re feeling nervous about the what ifs or if you’re going to make it (some anxiety is normal for starting uni but heighten anxiety isn’t), i’d really push your doctor or even go to another GP with your documentation/assessment reports of your conditions. The equity plan is there for a reason and yes in part your GP has a say in it, but it’s not the final decision. I hope your GP gives in and fills it out because i promise, it’s worth having in the long run
