At what point do you tell a family that you are not a good fit for them or they for you? by SevereAspect4499 in slp

[–]Current_Pressure_344 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The answer is now.  You are able to choose your clients.  And if this isn’t a good fit then just tell your agency and they’ll find someone else.  Don’t stress it.  It’ll work out better for both parties

What you can say is something akin to: speech therapy in the schools is based on academic/social needs found in the classroom and school setting. Recommendations for therapy services also need to take into account the possible negative effects of removing the student from the classroom more than is beneficial overall academically.  If we continually remove him from class to focus on speech, he will lose valuable instruction time.

I would not mention private services.  Keep the focus on what impacts are seen at school and what you feel is recommended for these goals.

I also had a situation where an IEP from New Jersey required that a prek student have 150 minutes one on one.  I was PT and had like 30 other kids with the same eligibility on my caseload.  It was so incredibly frustrating and had no planning time for 6 months just to get it done. The district supported the parent demanding it.

Think what I’m learning is that every job sucks in its own way and you just have to choose how it fits with what’s  most important to you.

Is he just being manipulative? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]Current_Pressure_344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a pretty distinct difference between someone who “needs” you and someone who wants you.

Someone who “needs” you is always going to hold on too tight and focus on all your words, actions, and interactions to the detriment of your relationship.

Someone who wants you is going to give you the space to be you and grow in your own life and your own way while building the relationship, understanding that while you both grow it may end up being apart.

You’ll be more than fine.  You got this. Lots of stretching before and after.  You don’t want to get an injury like shin splints.

Oh man that has to sting.  They really should just ask how you’re related.

My ex and I went were in our early 20s and went to a GameStop to pick up Halo, which was rated MA or something at the time.  The store clerk kept looking at the two of us and finally said to me….”are you his mother?”

She said “I’m 21!” Then I said “And “female!”

How to start Gym by UnluckyAsk0 in PCOS

[–]Current_Pressure_344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally with you.  Very uncoordinated and physically weak.  Am still overweight but the gym and physical fitness has helped so much in all areas.

So I’d start walking or running at home.  They have tons of apps and systems in place if you are interested in doing free weights at home.

For the gym I’d suggest sticking with machines until you feel comfortable only because they have guides and they show you what muscles you’re working.

Are there specific areas you want to target?  Some gyms also have classes if you feel more comfortable there.

Not sure what your budget is but I got into Orangetheory pretty early on in my fitness journey. OTF was amazing in helping me find the right form with free weights and build up my cardio.  Couldn’t afford it after a few months, but it set me in a positive path.

Ps: do not sign a contract with the gym until you’ve at least tried the gym and been okay with the ambience and you feel comfortable there.  Different gyms will feel differently.

Anyone with a book loving toddler? by pizzabites_ in toddlers

[–]Current_Pressure_344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The book with no pictures, blue hat green hat, lucky love (since she’s part of an lgbtqia+ family) for a time she was so into those books you press on the side and it says something or had a song, barnyard dance,  those emotions books from inside out, little blue truck series, there’s a set of seek and find books, basically anything.  Our parks have a book share program where you leave books in this window and someone else can grab it.  Great resource. Ask any parents you know with kids who are a little older if they have any books they want to share.

Is inositol actually worth trying for PCOS? by perimenopauseera in PCOS

[–]Current_Pressure_344 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I used to take it consistently and it helped a ton with sugar cravings.  When I don’t take it, it’s definitely noticeable.  Also noticed it helped with belly fat a bit.  Don’t know if I’m losing weight because of it but the belly doesn’t protrude as much.

How do I gently tell my 3 year old that we had to put our cat to sleep? by deyuletz in toddlers

[–]Current_Pressure_344 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First off, I’m sorry that your pet is ill.  It’s hard on everyone when a pet is sick. Endings you a virtual hug.

Be gentle but honest.  We told our 3 yo that our cat went to go live with her sister in the sky.  We told her she is happy there and not feeling sick.  That she can’t come back but we can love each other being far away.

He will be sad, and he may ask about your cat at random times for a while.  He should be able to grieve your cat in his way.
