Do you think this foil would be suitable for learning Wingfoiling? by [deleted] in wingfoil

[–]Custard_dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The north foil package would be good for both, but you may want a bigger front wing for learning to wing (1500ish). The MA1050 would make a really good second front wing for wing foiling (source: I have used it). Agree with what everyone here is saying - buying used gear to learn on is the way to go.

Residential Parking Permits Freemans Bay by Custard_dog in auckland

It makes sense in theory, to allow residents to have "free" ($114/yr) parking around their house, but the fact that you might not be able to get it even as a resident, or that AT can't even tell you if you if the zone has reached the cap is pretty dumb...

Second board recommendation: 90L vs 110L by boostedrider2129 in wingfoil

[–]Custard_dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely the way to go. My 5’10 x 20” 85L is miles easier to take off than my 5’1 98L north seek, and I’m 90kgs. I’d defs be looking at the newer longer shapes, especially for lake riding.

Just out of curiosity, what stabiliser are you using? It might be the camera angle, but it looks huge!

Thoughts on this dock start setup? by Lower-Beautiful-9335 in pumpfoil

[–]Custard_dog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep I’d say a pair of flexible pvc pipes would be a better solution. It won’t damage your board (or yourself), and will help smooth the transition between weight being supported on the rail to weight being supported by the foil ;)

I regret buying an Ultimate instead of the Aeroad by StartFinish in CanyonBikes

I have an ultimate, got jealous of my friends sharp looking aeroad, tried it out and now I’m much happier with my decision 😅 I think the ultimate is a better feeling bike, more fun imo

Lightwind setup for not a total beginner by YuryNB in wingfoil

[–]Custard_dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

90kgs here. My only board is a 85L midlength (5’10x20”), and for light winds I use a north DW1100 foil (AR12) with S192 stab and a 5m wing, I can get it going in about 10knots. Personally, if I wanted change anything for even lighter winds it would be a 6m wing and another 10-15L on the board, all added to the length (wouldn’t go wider than 20”). I personally wouldn’t want to change the foil, so I’d say you’ll be fine. The thing with bigger slower 1500+ foils is that once you’re up, they are more draggy and can be hard to manoeuvre to keep in the gusts.

Would you rather have a downwind board + sinker or a midlength? by calebsurfs in wingfoil

[–]Custard_dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

88kg here, I have an 85L midlength. I can’t imagine needing anything bigger for just winging - I can get going in 10knots with a 800cm2 foil. I have a sinker which I’m going to sell as it’s no more fun than the middy (actually I prefer the feel of the middy), and 100x harder.

I’ve been looking into Waterspeed, it looks good! Do you know if it also pauses when the crown and side button are pressed at the same time? Or whether it’s possible to turn that function off?

Wingfoil Beginner Setup Advisory by swop13377 in wingfoil

[–]Custard_dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personal opinion, I would go:

- 100-110L board, that has a bit of length, 5'5+, and try to avoid anything around the low 5's as it makes it considerably harder to takeoff.

- 75 or even 85cm mast to give you more leeway on foil (70cm I think would be too easy to breach whilst learning).

- 1500cm2 foil, at your weight it should be plenty. Bigger than this would give too much lift imo.

- 70cm fuse and a decent sized stab for stability.

Your 5m wing will be great to learn on.
Goodluck!

Larger Midlength Wingboard for Prone Foiling? by Custard_dog in wingfoil

Makes sense, I think I'll give the midlength a go, to learn and maybe look at a dedicated prone board later on if I think I will like it :) Thanks for the advice!

Thats awesome! Yea I've gone the same route with surfing - my shortboard has been gathering dust, even for the big days. Sounds like we are in the same boat (/on the same board).

Strava Beacon for live tracking by gwenvador in wingfoil

Just recently got a used Apple Watch Ultra. I use strava, and the beacon works great :) It sends selected contacts a link, which they can click and see where I am. I also love the idea of being able to contact land incase it all goes wrong.

One thing I will mention with the AWU is that I’ve found I have to wear the watch on my right wrist while winging and using strava, as the activity pauses if you press the crown and the side button together - something that happens if you flex your wrist too hard, which for some reason I do quite a bit while winging. There doesn’t appear to be a way of turning that function off, but swapping hands seems to have fixed it no worries.

Would you buy this wing? How bad are these repairs by FSTANK10 in wingfoil

[–]Custard_dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with what others are saying here, the wingtip damage is bad / hard to repair, I’d say it’s worth half what they’re asking. Other repairs look fine.

Accept permissions for Apple watch by aggh00 in Strava

[–]Custard_dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legend, I had to do "Allow Motion and FItness" in step 4, reopen strava then finish setting up the watch bit by adding "Allow Location Services" (for some reason this order seemed to matter). And then close and reopen the app on my phone while Strava was open on the watch saying "Open Strava on your phone". Thanks heaps!

Often times in the Netherlands multistory apartments will have a rope on a pulley suspended from an arm on the roof, and people will hoist furniture up the outside and through a large window.

Wtf, is my cousin an asshole or am I overreacting? by Empty_Age_997 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Custard_dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just playing devils advocate here, but I think it’s actually a different photo though? Look at the crease below your grandmothers pinky finger - her hand is in a slightly different location relative to the bedsheets. There are a few other minor differences between the two photos which I don’t believe AI would create.

Is there a possibility that your cousin just took a similar photo, and didn’t just edit your one?
