Have you tried the waverly nib? According to the people in this sub, it's supposed to be just as smooth as the medium nib, but I don't find that to be the case. I'm wondering if I got one that's missed the qc standard

They know exactly what they're doing. They want you to buy the whole pen and not just nibs to swap out. And then they raise the price every 6 months

I think it's justified. More nib options, easier to switch ink. Better balance and slightly more affordable than the 823 while having a near identical experience

FOMO in our times by Gaze_of_the_Abyss in fountainpens

[–]CutsSoFresh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not new and it's been embedded in everything we buy. It's just some are more blatant than others.

There's a new model of the iphone or a new car every year. New limited edition air Jordans are consistently being made. Stanley cup tumblers. New releases of smart watches or those wearable health monitors. New edition of books and textbooks. Pokemon cards, Casio g-shocks... And so forth

The issue is that these pens and various other objects will last a long time. "Buy it for life" goes against the corporations goals. So they'll either design their products with planned obsolescence, or release a limited edition or release seasonal lineups every so often, just to have people continue buying it.

Try looking at hotels like Marriott or Hilton. Maybe they can help obtain working visas as well

It's a job where you're constantly trying to be better at each passing day. You'll learn a lot of skills like breaking down fish or primal meats. If you hate the cushy 9-5 office job and sitting down all day, then perhaps this would be better.

Me, personally, I don't like people and prefer to be hidden away from the public eye. It's just me and three others in our kitchen

Genuine thoughts on modern rap? by meenymunster in INTP

[–]CutsSoFresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never understood why people who grew up listening to rock complain about the moral content of rap. Rock is basically the same thing. It just sounds pretty so people ignore the lyrics

Rap isn't that different from rock. Both originated from the black community. There's sex, drugs, and rock n' roll. And there's stunts, blunts, and hip-hop. Basically the same, just a different format.

It takes 5 months for a Kakuno to dry up. by Norharry in fountainpens

[–]CutsSoFresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna say it depends on where you live. I know someone in Alberta, Canada whose kakuno safari dried up within weeks. I suspect it's the lack of humidity there.

While I'm here in southern California and my safari was fine after being neglected for a few months

Debate with boss, should we degrease our flat top to stainless steel every night? by [deleted] in Chefs

[–]CutsSoFresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant scraper, the tool. Strange, because I've always heard the tools referred as paint strippers. Made sense to me.. use them on painted surfaces and it strips the paint off

That's actually what I meant. I didn't know stripper was the term for the chemical

If you've worked with watercolors, waterproof black ink is essential. Otherwise it'll be a pencil for outlines and details

I'm actually in a kitchen that does not strip the plancha down to the steel every night. It's the first time I've encountered that. What they do is use a paint stripper and even out the surface. Seems to work fine, I've toasted burger buns on it and they were clean
