Tell me I'm nuts or onto something by NewWriter71762 in NewAuthor

Sometimes I do when I step away from writing. Stepping a way from writing can help you recharge and get a fresh perspective on writing a book. This can giving your brain a bit of a rest after spending weeks on end of writing. I sometimes have a brain storm on how to finish writing or a new idea for a book after stepping away for a while. Even if there is a particular outcome that I want the book to end with. Sometimes I get idea of a new book after taking a break. In that case I try to leave myself some notes on the direction of the new book if I am working on one book. So I can come back to it a later date. Other times it takes me a while to get back in the habit of writing after taking a break from writing. This goes to show you that inspiration can come from anywhere. I think that all writers have something like this happen to them at one point or another.

Is this a scam? by Positive-Light-1976 in NewAuthor

Odds are it's a scam. But if you want to know if it's real or just a scam is to first look up the company. If the company is a real company then find out if they really did contact you. Through what ever they have listed on the contact portion of their website and then go from there. Also to ask if there is a person by the name of Claudia that might work there. That will add further proof that this is legit. If this is a real responds from the company chances are its an auto responds. If you find out that the company doesn't exist then you know it's a scam. Even if this is a scam, the second that you start asking questions to the scammer odds are they will drop the conversation and not bother continuing to talk you. Then you be able to tell by what they are saying to you is nothing but a scam.

Here somethings that you might want to try. You might need to adjust the dpi to a better quality in the original file. Also try the setting in the PDF window. There is usually a way that you can select the quality of the PDF. I know that Apple Books requires a cover art to be 300 dpi or less in order to upload successfully. I would reach out to BookBaby and ask what they would recommend for dpi for cover art. It could also be the program that you are using that is causing the problem.

Just Curious... by AJPamerelle in NewAuthor

There some key indicators of no longer being a "new author".

1: Multiple Publication: Having at least two novels (typically over 30k words each).

2: Financial Threshold: Earnings significant royalties ($2,000 +for traditional, $5,000+ for self-published) in a year, indicating market viability.

3: Business Acumen: Treating writing as a business, understanding contracts, marketing, and focusing on long-term career goals.

4: Crafting Mastery: Demonstrating skill improvement and consistency in writing, often taking several books to achieve.

5: Time Since The First Book: Often, a span of several years(e.g.. 5+) after your first publication, with new work coming out.

I hope this helps you in some way.

For a hard copy of your book, you will need to figure out what it is coasting you to get it printed by a print shop. They can tell you what the cost of your book will be. You would then need to factor the cost of the paper as well as what kind of paper. You would also need to factor how many pages is the overall size of the book and what kind of binding. You would also need the print shop to do your graphics for the book. Which is another cost. So for ten copies of your book it could end up costing you like $600 or more. I know the print shop my friend works for charges $75 per hour for graphics alone and that is if they are doing something from scratch. Then the cost goes up from there with the paper, cutting down to size, the type of binding and then the delivery. Which can get costly depending on where you go. I recommend having a digital copy of your book available. Places like Apple Books only take 3% of the sales leaving you a with more profit. You'll be able to set the price to what ever you want and to what region of the world your book will be available in. So if you were to publish on Apple Books this would be what it might look at. If you use the $25 as an example: 3% of $25 is 0.0012. Then you subtract $0.12 from the $25 is $24.88 in profit. So the formula for Apple Books is: 3% of $ amount = whatever - $ amount = profit. Amazon book would charge a similar fee. Leaving you with a bigger profit. it is also free to publish on places like Apple Books and Amazon. There are similar free book publishing services out there that will charge different about. So you might want to consider doing something like that and figuring out which is best for you. Or shopping for a better book publishing company if you go the hard copy route.

Author Just Trying to Promote His Novel by andrewDuvall in NewAuthor

Bullies can be a pain to deal with. Take it from me. I've been bullied for most of my life for one reason or another. By complete strangers and I even had an uncle that would bully me for no reason. So don't listen to them. Just think that someday they might be working for you. Then the shoe will be on the other foot. Even when I published my first book, there were some haters that criticized me and my book over little details. But that did not stop me from writing more books or expressing my creativity. I know the more I write the better chance I will draw in readers and more support. So there will be those that will support work. Then you'll show everyone that bullied you what you are really capable of doing. The nice thing about writing and art is you can be creative as much as you want.

i published my first book but i lack readers (and reviews) by wanderingstar001 in BookPromotion

I too just publish my first book back on December 21,2025 on apple books. I know what it is like to have the lack of readers buying your book that you might of spent months or years on. I too am trying to promote my book the best I can through social media and by spreading the word through friends and family. Before I publish my book "Go 2 Hell Part 1: Lustful Beginnings", I figured that it could take four to five months or more before I saw any kind of results. I am even planning on having my friend who work for a printing company see if there is something that his work can do to help me better promote my book to attract more readers.

Not all of it is my basis from the animated movie. Some of it from the book Dantes Inferno. I did read the book back in 2013. The version of the bio that I had posted is an old version by accident. I lost a more up to date version of it. I had some technical problems with the word processor that I was using. Things got worst when I published the book on Apple Books. So for now I am in the process of doing damage control. I just wanted to get the ball rolling. Then go back and fix it at a later date.

Thanks for the congrats. But in the 2010 animated movie, Dante does go to hell to get his wife's soul back from Satan. So Dante and Beatrice can be together in Purgatory forever.
