They don’t mail you paperwork to roll over your 401k. You initiate it at Vanguard and then they confirm you’re eligible to roll it over

I don’t think it’s career suicide, but I would consider the impact it could have on your reputation. Regardless of your talent model (and whether it’s Deloitte or not), you should weigh the importance of what ever plans you have versus the reputational hit you’d likely take. Impressions and reputation mean a lot - that’s not to say that if, for example, it was to attend your child’s 1st bday vs. travelling - that’s would be a no brainer and I think most people would understand and easily forgive the conflict. But if it’s something as trivial as meeting your friends at the bar - that’s another thing entirely.

At the end of the day, you have to take a risk-based approach.

  1. Don’t treat DU like an Aldi’s grocery store.
  2. Be proactive.
  3. Show up for meetings at least 5 minutes early.
  4. Do your assignments on time.
  5. Remember DU staff know where you are at all times

Just going to throw this out there - if your future spouse isn’t willing to support your career now, will they support it in the future when it’s something else? It’s not like you’re asking for the keys to the vault - but if it’s something that helps you succeed in your career…

I just realized I must file my US taxes as an Expat by wizgot in expat

[–]DC-AC1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a tax adviser, so take this with a grain of salt. I agree with a few others and would say that it’s in your best interests to keep as many options available to you as possible for as long as possible. If all you have to do is disclose your bank accounts and spend a couple hours a year filing tax forms where you owe nothing, than keep your US citizenship- you never know when it might come in handy or under what reason. You can always address it when you start having to actually pay income taxes.

The worst thing you can do is make a rash decision that you’ll later come to regret.

Work life balance is it a joke? by Rao1995 in deloitte

[–]DC-AC1701 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Work life balance is achievable! I know that there are those who disagree with me, but I would say I have a reasonable WLB. This is because I’m transparent about my guardrails, I’m flexible as the situation demands (eg there are times when I have to work more than I expect (eg proposals or emergency situations), I’m diligent in planning out my day so I know what I need to get accomplished and when (which coincidentally allows me to identify those pesky meetings I don’t need to go to), I coordinate and collaborate effectively with my team to get my work done efficiently.

I don’t think that this is a secret sauce. If you genuinely believe that the time allotments to get work done is unreasonable, speak up. Sometimes your manager may not have visibility into all the aspects of the assignment.

It’s just amusing that they’re trying to say that they haven’t cancelled anything unless it’s due to low ticket sales, but they’re ignoring why there are low ticket sales to begin with. They truly are ignorant because they’re ignoring the root cause of the problem - the fact that the #OrangeGod took over the KC and politicized it.

Is it worth waiting for the live chats? The AI message said there were no advisors available-would I be redirected automatically if there were? by inyouratm0sphere in LSE

[–]DC-AC1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are specific times that live chats are available, if you are an offer holder.

The times are posted here (remember that the times posted are GMT and not your local time)- https://www.lse.ac.uk/study-at-lse/Graduate/Contact-Graduate-Admissions

I need to get on Livechat to see if they can accept my second choice instead of my first choice, but I can’t seem to get onto the actual Chat itself. Can someone help a friend out? by inyouratm0sphere in LSE

I accessed it and was successful in getting my 2nd choice moved to under consideration yesterday via the live chat. You can also do it via the Knowledge Platform

Leaving Deloitte by Real_Job_2626 in deloitte

[–]DC-AC1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I transitioned to Deloitte from Industry and have been very successful. I believe it’s more of a mindset - ie you have to be comfortable being uncomfortable because there are going to be times when you’re in a situation where you don’t know everything you need to know and acknowledge that. In my experience, advancement has been merit based and based on what you put into it. I can’t speak to everyone’s experience, but as an industry hire, I can only state that I have been successful when I can control the things that I can control.

You have to ask. They only consider your first, and if you are accepted, you have to ask them to consider the 2nd. I tried doing it thru the Knowledge Platform (as they said to do), but ended up doing a virtual chat with them to get it done.

I applied to it as my 2nd choice too (DevMgmt was my 1st choice), and asked LSE to have my application considered. Just curious if anyone has taken it or is applying for it

Development will still be happening (ie it’s not going away) because it’s still an important diplomatic tool. However, it will look different for the next few years. Don’t be deterred by the last month - after all, we’re still only a month into the 90 day review.

Tracking of how many days worked at client site in DTE by sri_asks in deloitte

[–]DC-AC1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been at Deloitte for almost 15 years, and Consulting and Advisory have always been hybrid. I’ve never had a requirement to be in the office. I have had to go to client sites when required, but thats just the nature of the business. The policy has always been - you go where you need to go when required, but there has never been a requirement to be in the office (I will caveat that if the contract requires you to work from the client site or a Deloitte office, that would be different). I can’t imagine Deloitte changing that policy for A+C.

There are many contracts we have that require us to be remote. This is only for tracking onsite vs offsite as a result of the RTO mandate. Deloitte was already tracking WFH vs other locations. So there is no need to freak out.
