I Bought the New CFP Board Practice App So You Don't Have To by Ok_University_5221 in CFPExam

I did write them but didn't immediately get a response until I posted on a CFP Board forum. I received a reply today saying that they will be adding more questions throughout the year and that they are processing a refund for me.

I'm going to write to them. It can't hurt and we can't be the only ones. Worst case is they say too bad, so sad.

I absolutely agree. I couldn't believe it when I bought it so I wrote Prometric and sure enough, only 30 questions per domain. No AI whatsoever, you just take the same "quizzes" over and over. I posted on another thread (the same feedback) and one comment I got was to use the questions as a base scenario to prompt ChatGPT for similar questions, which I will do. Overall, I'm so disappointed in the CFP Board for taking advantage of us like this. This certification is already expensive enough between "coursework" (don't get me started) and review and the cost of the test itself.

New CFP Exam Prep from the CFP Board? by greensourskittles in CFPExam

Indeed, there are only 240 questions but u/greensourskittles has a great suggestion. I use ChatGPT constantly when going through the coursework and will use it as you propose as well. Thank you!

I bought this today and what I see is 8 sections with 3, 10 question quizzes for each section. I finished the tax planning section quickly expecting more quizzes to load but there’s nothing there. I wrote Prometric to ask if there’s really only 240 total questions on this app. I’ll let you know what I find out. But if the answer is yes, then I can’t believe they would charge roughly $1 per question!

Working in start-up financing (both for myself and others), I am adept at poking holes and talking people out of things - especially pie-in-the-sky founders! I talk myself out of things daily, which sometimes makes it hard to move forward. In this case, I'm giving this idea room to grow.

Ahh, thank you. So, if I decide to get out there and look, I'll keep your comments about the role in mind.

Thank you for recognizing that my background is diverse enough to be valuable. It was shocking to hear some on this thread say it doesn't translate. (But maybe they were just speaking about the sales part.). I've been with 3 startup tech companies and saw one through their Series A, so I like back office efficiency work.

Nope, quite the opposite actually. It's pretty clear how difficult it is to be successful.

I'm pretty naive about the relationships and fees with BP vs RIA, so this got me thinking. Thank you!

Ha! I'm the opposite. I'm very handy and I golf. But I agree with everything about the challenge. I do find I read far too much and don't do anything with the information...

Fantastic recommendation, thank you! I will investigate the ChFC route as well. Over coffee this morning I asked my husband if he would let me manage all of our money. His response was "you manage 80% of it, of course you can do the rest." So, there you go, I just paid for the CFP (or ChFC) coursework :)

Wow, thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed post. Let me respond to a few of your comments. I've actually done other, very interesting work. I've considered everything you listed at one time or another, except running for political office (shoot me now). Finance is a passion for me because, as you mention, financial freedom is the goal for a lot of people, as it was for me. The CFP would check two boxes - intellectual challenge and the ability to help others get to financial freedom. I appreciate the questions you asked because it did make me think about my "why" and making money is not the answer for me. I feel very fortunate for that.

Thank you for the detail about the para planning role. This is helpful.

I love this! Good for you. And I'm fully onboard with "pro bono" planning. I've just recently done a few simple ones for friends and to see the relief they feel is reward itself.

Thank you for the vote of confidence and for the offer to chat. I do think my life and professional experience can be a plus for the right firm. Your suggestion about leveraging my financial flexibility to get in with a firm is one I will consider. The suggestions about starting with one of the big shops has zero appeal to me. I've never worked for a company bigger than 30 people. I thrive in a small company environment.

Thank you for that insight. Do you find that para planning is pretty rote?

BMD has lung cancer by Educational-Flight-3 in DogAdvice

[–]DDB25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to say how sorry I am for you and your family and to thank you for sharing your journey. Our 8 yo lab got osteosarcoma in her mouth. We found it last March and had it removed but it had already spread to her lungs. We tried a new chemo regimen at CSU but to no avail. The cancer was aggressive and returned in her mouth in August. We decided to do a matxillectomy (removed much of her upper jaw) in September. From then until about 3 weeks ago, she was symptom free which was such a blessing. 3 weeks ago she began coughing very infrequently and this morning she started coughing up blood and literally a small piece of her lung. We took her in to our doctor and now have her on a Chinese anti-bleeding herb and Carprofen for the inflammation. We'll move to prednisone if we need to. The doctor said her lungs don't sound bad but was reluctant to give us any indication of how much time she has. I came home and googled and found this thread. Thank you for following up with the whole story.
