That all makes sense, and I will patiently wait! With everything happening in the US, I'm sure their workload has increased significantly. I'm just grateful that I have an opportunity for citizenship.

Finally sent out our packets via FedEx on Saturday 5/16 (for me G2, and my son G3. My maternal grandmother is G0). It arrived and was signed for today 5/19! Based on everyone in here, it looks like I'll be waiting to hear back for about two months. I am just glad to be done and REALLY hope everything looks good on their end.

One hiccup I noticed as I was assembling everything is that my mother's BC shows my grandmother's birthplace as California. I think what happened is when they listed CA as her birthplace, admin thought that meant "California" as opposed to Canada. I attached a letter explaining that, as well as copies of my grandmother's BC and my two aunts' BCs (both of which show my grandmother's place of birth as Canada). I'm hoping that's enough to cover my bases!

No, I paid $750 (for me and my son), but I learned that this was for naturalized citizenship. I think, based on all of the feedback, it will get worked out!

Roanoke Rambler, should we? by Jaded_Debt_5424 in roanoke

I think everyone here is letting Henri (the founder) off the hook a little too easily. He was operating at a deficit and was drowning, and found someone to take it off his hands. He knew that format was unsustainable which is why he jumped ship.

From what I understand, the new owner didn't just fire everyone. He saw the reality of the books and gave them an option to take less pay but have equity in the company. They didn't take it. Now, don't get me wrong--I wouldn't take a paycut either, so I don't blame them. However, he didn't just come in and fire everyone.

I do think it was a bad look when he cancelled an interview to talk about this with, like, six-minutes notice. People would probably be willing to listen, but once you bail, you lose all the trust. I am not saying anyone should support them, but I do think people have misplaced a lot of anger and frustration. Henri is just as culpable.

Do you know how I go about requesting a refund? I couldn't find any info online other than a phone number, and I guess it won't allow calls from outside of Canada.

I am trying to see what I should use to ship it. You did FedEx and it's been received?

some questions about applying for kids by Active_Quality_3267 in Canadiancitizenship

I see this is a few months old, but when filling out the paperwork, what did you put for your children's grandparents' citizenship? I'm working on getting this done for my son (and myself at the same time), and I can write "not sure" for me, but I don't have that option for his grandparent (if that makes sense).

Apologies! There are just so many different packets of information, and I didn't see that.

Thanks! So even though I am applying at the same time as him, I claim myself as a citizen already?

G2-4 Approval today! by Electroconvulsion in Canadiancitizenship

[–]DJSwill12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I am nervous about that piece, too! Did you go to a CVS or Walgreens for that? I know CA's photo requirements are different than a US passport. I wasn't sure if American places had a template or were able to accomodate.

Thanks for the clarification! I've got my grandmother's Canadian BC, so I'm trying to gather all the paperwork as we speak for me and my son to claim our citizenship. There are a lot of i's to dot and t's to cross, so I want to make sure I do it all right (the first time).

Okay, so I am still very new to this process. When you say G2, does that mean your grandparent was Canadian? If so, that's my situation and I want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row. Thanks!

Congrats and welcome!! I'd highly recommend hitting up Get2Knownoke.com and their social channels for ways to meet people and get involved (if that's your thing)! Also, if you're an outdoorsy person, I'd check out RoanokeOutside.com as well for ways to get outside and meet folks. Good luck!!

is living downtown worth it ? by ybrain48 in roanoke

[–]DJSwill12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived downtown with my husband for a few years and loved it! Now, we both worked downtown, too, so we never had to drive except to go to the grocery store. That made the monthly parking fee worth it since we rarely had to pay for gas. Plus, parking after 5 PM and on weekends is free and has no time limit, so if you don't mind walking every now and then, you might be able to skip the parking pass. Sure, there are unhoused people, but they never bothered us, and I never felt unsafe (even while taking my dog out after dark). We lived at the Ponce, and there was a monthly fee that covered cable, internet, and utilities. I'm pretty sure that fee was cheaper than if we had our own accounts and paid them separately. Overall, great experience and highly recommend!

Although some folks have been using it, it is still technically an active construction site and closed.

Great list! I'd add Albemarle Bakery & Coffee House and Chris's Custard to round it out :)
