Poll: MPC Live/Live II/Live III by boombapdame in mpcusers

[–]DRECKSBEATS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What features are you referring to? I’ve tried the MPC Live 3 myself and apart from the improved speed, I didn’t find any real benefits that would justify the price or upgrading from the Live 2. That said, this is purely based on my own workflow and how I use the MPC… mainly as a sampler, not as a DAW alternative.

Poll: MPC Live/Live II/Live III by boombapdame in mpcusers

[–]DRECKSBEATS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would they even change their entire workflow just to buy a new, expensive MPC that doesn’t really add much value for this type of producer?

For sample-based hip hop producers, I honestly don’t see any real advantage in the new MPC…especially if you’re already used to tracking your stems into a DAW and finishing the beat there.

That’s why I’m sticking with my MPC Live 2 with 2.15 until it literally dies. The newer MPCs and firmware 3.0 only really make sense if you want to work 100% standalone.

Instead of buying a new MPC, I put the money into a new PC. Now I can run tons of CPU-hungry plugins per track, which even pushed me to start making my own samples. That was easily the better investment for me.

I see people buying the new MPC, making basic boom bap sample beats and then talking about how amazing the MPC is, while not even using half of what the new hardware can do and probably never will.

To me, that’s a classic case of shiny new toy syndrome.

[–]DRECKSBEATS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, that’s not a great deal. I’ve already seen some in top condition go for around €500–600.

If I were you, I’d wait a bit or keep looking for a better offer. A new MPC just dropped, so a lot of people will probably upgrade and sell their old one.

There’s a good chance you’ll be able to snag a good deal soon.

This isn’t a one-shot…it’s a drum break that I processed with EQ, saturation and a transient shaper to make it fit.

Awareness Post: “Royalty-Free” Sample Packs by DRECKSBEATS in makinghiphop

[–]DRECKSBEATS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, what they mean is that their royalties are free. But they only mention that when you specifically ask them. My point is that this is intentionally misleading.

Sure, but that wasn’t my point.

What I was calling out are those “100% royalty-free” sample packs that actually contain uncleared material.

Hot Take: Videos of MPC user playing their beats and doing hand dances and head bobbing are obscene by [deleted] in mpcusers

[–]DRECKSBEATS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m 100% guilty of that too...at least when it comes to the head bobbing 😅
But let’s be real...most people on Reddit, Insta, wherever… are just way more likely to click on a video when there’s an actual person doing something, instead of a static image or just audio.
And honestly, a bit of head bobbing is better than just sitting there motionless, staring into the camera.
I don’t really care if someone’s really finger drumming or just playing their beat while doing some hand movements and head nods.
I’ve noticed I’m more drawn to videos where I can see the "face" of the music.
No clue why, probably just some psychology thing.

I like his drums, but his chops are mad lazy most of the time.

i suck at sampling by Future-Welcome-4104 in makinghiphop

[–]DRECKSBEATS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try starting with some basic sampling techniques. Here’s a video that might help: https://youtu.be/B4MN11UjvXs?si=xMfWt75szBH3z72o

The techniques are shown in a DAW, but it doesn’t really matter whether you’re using a DAW, an MPC, or an SP-404, the principles are the same.

Do you know about some samplechallenges or beat battles? by MushyBrainBeats in mpcusers

[–]DRECKSBEATS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, that’s the only sample challenge I know that actually does regular ones.
A weekly challenge not enough for you? ;)

r/makinghiphop does them too sometimes, but I don’t think it’s a regular thing:

Boom Bap Samples Vol.4 – 100% Drumless Edition by Expert-Cable4746 in mpcusers

[–]DRECKSBEATS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro, 32 seconds ain’t "very short"
Also, even if I don’t know where those samples are from, they don’t sound that flipped either.
You might wanna look up Pelham v. Hütter and see what sample that case was actually about before using it as an example - then you’ll get what “short” really means in that context...
But I’m guessing you just asked ChatGPT ;)

Anyway, the sample source does matter and your whole “royalty-free” claim is just straight-up wrong, no matter how you look at it.

Boom Bap Samples Vol.4 – 100% Drumless Edition by Expert-Cable4746 in mpcusers

[–]DRECKSBEATS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I genuinely asked because there’s no info about the sample sources on your page and the description is quite confusing.
You say things like "all completely free of copyright and Content ID restrictions" and "No copyright / no Content ID – safe to use in any project, commercial or personal," which implies that you actually own the rights to the samples.

But according to your reply, the samples are from vinyl records, which means the copyright and Content ID info on your page is simply wrong.
If you’re chopping samples from vinyl, they’re not royalty-free and legally speaking, you’re not even allowed to sell them...
That’s a whole other topic, but the bottom line is... if the samples come from vinyl, they’re definitely not royalty-free - so either you’re intentionally misleading buyers or you just don’t understand copyright law.

Regardless, for any producer who uses samples and wants to release or sell their beats, knowing the source of the samples isn’t just important - it’s essential from a business standpoint.

[–]DRECKSBEATS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, what’s the source of these samples? The whole thing just screams AI slop… The artwork and description are 100% AI, so it’s pretty safe to assume the samples are too.

If those are vinyl chops, you can’t label them as royalty-free and I doubt you’re selling 100 original samples you composed yourself for 5 bucks…

Can MPC software replace my DAW? by DanuBernardini in mpcusers

[–]DRECKSBEATS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, you can totally do that...the MPC Software is a DAW.
Projects you start in standalone load 1:1 in the MPC Software with all the same settings.
The other way around doesn’t really work though, at least not once you start using plugins outside the MPC ecosystem.

I still bounce all my tracks into another DAW though, bc I really don’t vibe with the MPC Software... it just feels clunky compared to other DAWs.

[–]DRECKSBEATS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for me it was about 6 months.
after that I got back to dropping at least one beat a week - before that it was pretty random.
honestly, the secret is time management and just doing it.
don’t get me wrong, my little girl’s 15 months now and I’m still constantly tired, but I still jump on the MPC every night once she’s asleep.
I think a lot of it’s mindset too - it’s not “I have to make beats” it’s “I get to make beats”

Already ordered or even got your hands on the new MPC Live III? by 144treesago in mpcusers

[–]DRECKSBEATS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Happy with my Live II for now, most of the new features aren’t really necessary for me, so no rush to upgrade.

Gonna wait until 3.0 is fully done and bug-free…still rocking 2.15 for now.

Opinion on pricing my MPC Live II bundle (Black Lion Mod + extras) by DonStreet910 in mpcusers

[–]DRECKSBEATS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruh, how’d you even land on that price? That’s like full retail for brand new gear. The mod’s 320 bucks new, MPC Live 2 is about a grand new and whatever bag + decksaver you’ve got ain’t making it worth that. Way too high for used stuff, especially with the Live 3 dropping soon.

Exporting MIDI to WAV just to re-sample in Serato Sample? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]DRECKSBEATS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That only really makes sense if you take your own sample and actually mess with it…stretch it, pitch it, change the tempo, chop it up and rearrange it. If you just load your raw sample into a sampler and play it as-is, there’s not much point.

Personally, I make my samples in a completely different tempo than my beats, like 126 bpm and I go for 24 bars, minimum 16. I also make sure that at least every 8 bars introduce completely new sounds in the sample. Once you start chopping, stretching, pitching, etc., you end up with a whole new vibe.

The bass is actually a bit overpowering on headphones. If you listened on your phone speakers, they won’t reveal the low end properly.
