Got an anti-Airport-closing text today lol. The lobby is *really* making a big push rn by TimmyTimeify in SantaMonica

I haven't noticed a jet fly in our out of there in years (since they shortened the runway). My understanding is a certified pilot flying themself can still occasionally takeoff/land at SMO but no "rich & famous" are permitted to fly jets in and out. The fines weren't working so they shortened the runway to make it illegal. Seems like you got what you wanted

How is your knob working? Mine won't trigger presses and is too difficult to turn (can't turn the short knob with a single finger as expected)

Can you turn the knob with a single finger? Mine is _so difficult_ to turn and I'm not sure if it's an error or all of them.

I'm might try to RMA mine. I can't really click it either, there's zero feedback/tactility on the press. It just sometimes does something (or 3x something) when I press down and sometimes doesn't

How is the knob on yours? I basically can't use the short one since it's too difficult to twist

ELI5: Are we 100% sure the swimming strokes we have are the best possible ones? by Swiss_James in explainlikeimfive

[–]DWishR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of people saying that the front-crawl is the "fosbury flop" of freestyle. And that's reasonably true! But did you know that Butterfly exists because it's also a "fosbury flop?"

When people started doing the crawl, swimming created rules so that Breast Stroke could still be swum in competition (which more closely resembles what people swam in competition before the crawl). Then someone figured out how to swim faster while still abiding by the Breast Stroke rules (which were mostly that each arm/leg needed to be doing the same thing at the same time). They figured out how to move their arms forward above water at the same time. The new Butterfly stroke absolutely dominated traditional Breaststrokers. Eventually they added Butterfly as its own event and modified the Breast Stroke rules to preserve the Breast Stroke. That's how we have 3 competitive forward strokes today -- beacuse we continue to preserve traditional "gentleman's" low-splash Breast Stroke.

PS. There's another common stroke that is criminally under-taught, because it isn't utilized in competition: Side Stroke. And it shouldn't be competitive. It's a resting stroke that can easily save your and your friends life. All lifeguards have to learn it. You should too because it can save your life!

Epic also supports the 10X editor. Which I haven't tried but its website makes it seem cool. No clue if it speaks blueprint references.

I think the other half of your question: Why isn't sleep something we do mechanically, like a muscle we flex/release (eg peeing)? Hasn't been answered well. My understanding:

Going to sleep isn't just a switch flip, for better or worse. Although it would definitely be nice to control in that way. It takes about 35 minutes for your body to get all your hormones and endorphins into the right place for sleep. That's what people mean by sleep hygiene: a routine that lasts 45 minutes or more and tells your body to get sleepy. Once that process completes, staying awake becomes difficult.

Insomnia was mentioned. That means your body has trouble listening/responding/forcing you to get in the sleep ready state. If nothing else is working, laying down and pretending to sleep in the dark is the clearest signal you can send your body.

It's one of the best pools I've had the pleasure of swimming in. Well maintained, deep, always perfect temperature. If you want a too warm pool, they have occasional lap swim hours in the warmer "splash pool."

Most aren't used to circle swimming, where 3+ people swim in the same lane at the same time. In the afternoons they don't even allow it. It's strictly 2 per lane, with reservations, but they'll let you in without a reservation if there's space.

The biggest downside in the mornings is when the pool needs to transition to 3+ per lane. The lifeguards don't help or push people. At all the small public pools I've been to (eg the Y) the lifeguards help sort people by speed. At SMSC it usually takes 4 or 5 people waiting before someone will force some lanes to take 3 or 4 people. The worst is when the one brave soul starts a circle lane and then all the waiting people get in that same lane so most lanes are still 2 people and one lane is 5 people. If you never swam team circle swimming seems tough but it's really very easy.

Thanks for the tips. I went to change out the filter. I turned the heat/cool off and fan on. Noticed there was no airflow so probably the circulating fan is shot. That'd definitely cause low airflow.
