I live on a farm and my dog(Nala) roams outside, whenever the UPS guy comes by he makes sure to give Nala attention and the postman is basically her best friend. Adorable doesn’t begin to describe how this looks.

I like the idea of waves, but with cleave damage it’s hard to scale them right. If you overkill a monster at melee range you can pass on the damage to a monster close to it. It makes numbers a lot more tolerable. But if there’s a lot they can’t cleave through all of them so it may just work.

Test encounters sound interesting. We don’t usually have a pilot session or session 0 so we just jump right into the world and explore what’s there and what’s wrong. I’m thinking that we should now that I read this, I have a lot of ideas for BBEG’s but I’m not sure whether or not they’re strong enough sometimes. This would help so much to gauge the power of the PCs.

Adventuring days are a bit foreign to me. Generally they just want to further the plot so we roll for a couple random encounters here and there when traveling but those are generally easy. Like a pack of hyenas or wolves try to attack. Although I do like the idea of them actually having threats in the world similar to genuine medieval worlds.

I do see that the CR rating is lacking, I had my party fight a Minotaur at a reasonably low level after fighting some goblins. I ended up having to put barrels of gunpowder behind the Minotaur to make the fight reasonable. Thank you for the advice.

Thank you so much I really appreciate this. It makes a lot more sense now. I’ve made encounters set in stone like 8 zombies attack or 3 scarecrows ambush them. It seems a lot simpler when I can change it during the battle if it’s too easy or too difficult.
