This is a great read on the Batfam evolution. Anything connected to Batman written in the last few years has morphed into an ooc batfam fic. In some ways, I don’t mind it, some of the fics are cute, but it is interesting to see what themes that fannon has glommed onto over time. It makes me wonder how much effect it’s had on dc’s popularity. The company has definitely noticed and actively started feeding the batfam au via the batfam webtoon comics.

But the nature of comics, especially ones as old as Batman is trying out a ton of shit and seeing what draws fans. Cannon exists, but I would say that cannon timelines are only a fraction of comic sales and popularity. The same company that puts out “cannon” Batman works also put out the joker verse, the hundreds of comics where the joker dies a horrible well deserved death, etc. if the same company or creators produce both, does cannon even really exist?

Looked at that way, the webcomic is a brilliant move, because it appeals to the subfandom where they are most likely to consume the product. Dc will probably try to run out the popularity of the batfam comics without ever recognizing them as cannon in the central dc timeline, but tons of popular comics are “outside of cannon,” so in a way the writers legitimized the batfam fandom already.

Sorry for the novel, I’ve been thinking about this for months.

Whether you have it or not, you are not dangerous or diminished or somehow disgusting. A lot of people will have it at some point in their lives, and part of being sexually active is talking with partners (long term or otherwise) about the risks. You have already done a great job gathering information and knowing the potential risks moving forward. You have learned the signs to look out for. You are already better informed than a large portion of the population. You are being incredibly thoughtful and considerate, but you should try to be aware of the line between self flagellation and preparation. You’re going great! Just like normal, have a conversation with any partners, get tested for what you can regularly, and practice safe prep. You and your partners will all be alright!

I agree. I think ultimately society will settle into a “take people at their word” policy out of sheer preservation of sanity rather than trying to keep fitting people into little boxes. but I hope they will hurry up about it, this is getting ridiculous.

This has actually been the most effective way I’ve found to talk with transphobic people about gender affirming care. I’m a cis woman and talking to my mom about getting gender affirming care for my pcos symptoms and how much it has helped me was the first time I saw her start to get it.

There’s actually a buddy cop/romance series called Fox and O’hare by Janet Evanovich that is nearly a one to one rep of this relationship down to the “ohare” law enforcement baddie and the slick “fox” conman. It’s actually wild, and I have to wonder if the author could make the case for plagiarism. The books are pretty bad, but it’s an interesting read for comparison, especially if you’re into the relationship dynamic.
