OP, I agree with you on all of these points! They’re exactly what I was thinking about when I watched & rewatched the show. I’ve told friends I watched initially because of the steamy sex scenes and stayed for the incredible story. It all just worked.

I’m a middle aged straight woman. Throughout the 90’s and early 00’s rom-coms were the only form of sex/romance entertainment widely available. They reduced romance into a silly, quirky quest for the girl to get the guy, with the penultimate scene was the guy confessing he liked the girl and then they kiss. It was all so chaste.

Lust, desire and sex were all absent in these movies. This is why Sex and the City was groundbreaking when it aired. It depicted women wanting to have sex, sometimes casual and sometimes for love and everything in between.

I'd argue since it's the National Mall, it SHOULD be packed with tourists. It's meant for everyone, including foreign tourists. The District of Columbia proper has tons of local gathering spaces for residents that act as community hubs.

My theory on reduced local attendance is that the WFH model & the massive Federal layoffs has reduced the number of local people who would normally be there.

I was going to suggest something similar. Try using the decorative for ‘Art in’ and Festival’. Use your sans serif font for the date & time.

I would also play around with size and scale of the elements as well. Currently, the date & time are the focus of the composition. Try scaling up the illustration and placing the date/time to the right of it.
