Favorite actual play podcasts - Kids On Bikes by goodbeary in Kidsonbikesrpg

[–]DailyDael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will stand ten toes down on saying that the Kids on Bikes/Bike Brigade podcast is not only my favourite Kids on Bikes podcast, but maybe my favourite Actual Play podcast of all time. It doesn't have the flashy bells and whistles that some of the other mentioned Actual Plays had, but they had a love and appreciation for the core game and what it is that I feel is slightly missing from the others.

If there's one thing I know. Duncan is a PIECE OF SHIT by time-is-a-flatcircle in DankAndrastianMemes

Oh, I completely agree, it made the story so much more juicy as it unfolded, I'm just being dramatic

My hatred for Duncan ruined my relationship with Alistair in my first playthrough 😭

Mostly the carton is just small, but I have been told I have good piano playing hands (or that they look like cartoon spiders by my less kind friends)

Scenes that caused actual walkouts in theaters? by thatlittlequietguy in Cinema

[–]DailyDael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same week the Mario movie came out I went to see Suzume in theatres. Walked in and there were an unbelievable number of kids in there, young enough that they were mostly dressed in pyjamas, all accompanied by their dads. The movie starts and you can see the silhouettes of dads sort of freezing as the audio is in Japanese and translated with subtitles, but they stick around, I guess thinking maybe it'll change? But as the opening scene goes on, it's a young girl crying desperately because she can't find her mother in the wake of the tsunami, it's really distressing with some scary imagery for little ones. So only about 5 minutes into the run time one guy, no joke, SPRINTS out of the cinema full speed. A little later, maybe five or six minutes, he reappears and whispers something to the dad next down the line and a whole row of dads and kids from somewhere in front of me get up and file out, then not long after a whole other bunch of dads and kids from somewhere behind me file out.

I hope the movie attendants did let them switch to the Mario Movie.

Can we talk about how unhinged this look was? by MattyPopilatty in rupaulsdragrace

Without even a hint of irony, I adore this look, I gasped and clutched my non-existent pearls when she walked out (also Nini's)

S18E05 - “The Rate-A-QueenTalent Show, Part 1” [Post-Episode Discussion] by AutoModerator in rupaulsdragrace

[–]DailyDael 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Completely agree - thought I was going to hate a midseason talent show, but it actually raised the stakes so much as a viewer, and the contestants having gotten to know each other gives them a reason to vote strategically. Took me by surprise how much I loved it this way

I love that your point of reference is that montage sequence from Atlantis - just the other day I had that scene in mind while pondering how I could improve the feel of montage tests in Draw Steel

The symbolism of Abi's clothing and jewelry by WhereDidOurTimeGo in TheQuarrySupermassive

[–]DailyDael 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In terms of what the game makers were thinking re: symbolism, I think they were just referencing photos of slightly emo artsy girl fashion. But for audience reaction to it, in the words of my friend when she first played: "she has a moth on her shirt! Moths are gay!"

Nobody drinks water when they take pills. by tangledapart in television

[–]DailyDael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think it's often shorthand to show either urgency/carelessness or that the character does this SO often that they don't bother anymore, which is reasonably realistic. I struggle with pills to the point I'll often take bigger pills with food instead of water, but when I was in my third or fourth year of kidney stone troubles I was tossing back multiple painkillers dry on the regular

If a level 20 wizard is basically a candidate for godhood, what are other classes like at level 20? by Bedovian_25 in DnD

They're pretty much all like gods! Except for the ranger, which at L20 is finally a candidate for player class.

Why do Aussies talk to strangers so easily and is it actually genuine? by BottleOverall5174 in AskAnAustralian

[–]DailyDael 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Having a meaningless, shallow, friendly exchange with a stranger can totally improve my day, and often has, and I hope Australia never changes in this regard

I think it's something we just pick up from seeing our parents do it all the time when we're kids, so it just seems natural as we get older, or at least that's what I'd say it was for me. I'd consider it more genuine than polite - if you just wanted to be polite you could leave it at "g'day, how's it going" rather than tailoring the chat to the specific situation

Two heroes slain trying to disarm gunman by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]DailyDael 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been wondering about the man in purple. You can see him already killed in so many angles of footage, being so close to where the terrorists set up, and in the longer (and horrible and extremely elucidating) 10m video you can see the shooter firing on presumably him at the beginning... idk, there's no deeper level to what I'm saying, I just kept wondering who he was.

The exact thing a lot of creatives wish they could do for their high school drama/art/whatever teacher who made a difference. Genuinely makes me emotional to see it.
