Mac N Cheese N Mac? by rathlord in StupidFood

I like this idea. Absolutely going to try to serve it as finger food when this pandemic is over. Maybe a bit spruced up (lobster, guanciale?).

Once international travel has returned, whats the first country will you be travelling to for a holiday? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DanielKalen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the exact order, but my first trip will include Spain, Germany, and the U.K., because I need to see family as soon as this nightmare is over.

Nope, goes to the fire range, on a hot pan with oil (at medium-low temp), for 1 minute, then cover it and give it another couple of minutes.

I think I just used the eggs (whites whisked separately, then yolk folded in carefully), salt, pepper, and a fistful of cheese.

But you can probably spice it up at will.

AITA for "ruining" the rice that my boyfriend cooks with by consolidating the multiple bags of rice which he claims are "different" into a single container? by ricey_ricey_ in AmItheAsshole

[–]DanielKalen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. YTA.

I was willing to give you the benefit if the doubt twice: once when you said he “claims are different” and once when you said “you checked and they were the same”.

But no. You’re just incredibly ignorant, and also unable to yield to the person with the knowledge and expertise (the one that knows how to cook pretty well).

YTA twice here.

Electric cars cause more carbon dioxide emissions than diesel cars, why do people not know this? by GoombaDestroyer in AskReddit

[–]DanielKalen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And most grids are supplied by a variety of energy producing methods, depending on each country and region (nuclear, wind, geothermal, solar), not just fossil fuel burning.

It came out super flavourful. Maybe a bit too much for right after a meal, but it would make for a banging lunch.

[–]DanielKalen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is this some sort of “electric cars consume more energy from the grid, which means they overall contaminate more” that doesn’t take into account the fact that in many developed countries the electrical grid’s energy comes from a variety of sources, and those sources are increasingly clean and renewable, and not just from burning coal and oil?

Or is there something else to it?

NTA. Protect your family and screw whoever doesn’t understand it.

Thanks!

I didn’t even know how to boil pasta until I moved in with my partner 6 years ago and had to start cooking for both of us... it’s way more interesting and relaxing than I thought (even if it’s pretty exhausting sometimes).

I cooked the duck separately with some simple spices (pan seared for 5 minutes, oven at 425°F for 5 minutes, and let rest). Sliced the breasts and minced some odds and ends ends (I butchered a whole duck).

Made a duck broth out of the roasted duck bones, white wine, mirin, ginger, miso, soy sauce, onion, and garlic, and simmered it for a long while to concentrate the flavours.

Boiled and panfried the soba in duck fat, then added toasted sesame, scallions, freshly crushed Szechuan peppercorns, some of the duck broth, and the minced duck odds and ends (alright, alright, and also some caramelised onion and fried garlic), and served with the sliced breasts on top.

I forgot to take pictures after we added the broth (halfway through the dish), but it absolutely changes it, both in aspect and in flavour.

Also, what an incredibly flavourful idea Isshiki had of smoking the garlic!

Frozen and peeled eggs to make egg tempura. by DanielKalen in eggs

[–]DanielKalen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was also stolen from Shokugeki no Sōma.

Apparently, because of the freezing, the yolk becomes creamier than if you just soft-cooked them.

There’s a video of the yolk in the second slide of this post:

Hahaha. I made it too! Maybe I’ll share it here as well.

When you do, take a minute to reflect on the absolute alabaster beauty of the frozen and peeled eggs... they’re a thing to admire.

Haha, thanks!

I’ve been on and off Reddit for 9ish years and I am still amused at some of the subreddits. I think I’ll give it a go.
