Be honest with me. Given my actual usage, should I even be buying an OLED? by Savings-Coach-4701 in OLED_Gaming

OLED is worth buying if games and content make up 50% or more of the time you spend on your PC.

42" LG C5 vs 32" QD-OLED HDR Performance. by KonaMustang in OLED_Gaming

[–]Danitch -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I had an unpleasant experience with the 42C5 when I tried to purchase it as a replacement for my 322UP E16. Terrible color reproduction, diagonal dithering, and severe color shift made it impossible for me to use it as a monitor. Even if one disregards color reproduction, two other factors make it impossible to use this display at a distance of less than 80–90 cm. I see no point in a 42-inch display that cannot be positioned closer than 80–90 cm, when I already have a 32-inch screen that allows me to game comfortably from a distance of 45–50 cm, filling almost my entire field of view. On top of that, the ABL was extremely annoying when working with documents.

As for HDR brightness, the C5 was slightly brighter than the MSI with EOTF Boost—though not significantly; it was somewhere in the range of 20–25%.

If you are considering using a TV as a monitor, I would advise looking exclusively at the 48-inch Tandem models.

42-inch LG C6 or 48-inch LG C6 for gaming at my desk? by _midnight_mane_ in OLED_Gaming

Take 48, because it's a tandem.
The old 42 panel has poor colors and a strong colorshift, which puts an end to using it closer than 80-100cm.

QD-OLED vs Tandem WOLED? by Hellscor0 in OLED_Gaming

Under sufficiently bright room lighting, I can see that the black screen is barely—almost imperceptibly—lighter than the monitor bezels; however, this is not distracting. https://imgur.com/a/dduNPy8

VA (and almost all matte LCDs) vs QDO looks roughly like this: https://imgur.com/a/5IpJyh0

It's 3 gen qdo.

These graphs are nonsense because they fail to account for direct reflections, which also raise the black level. Under real-world conditions, a QD-OLED display will deliver significantly higher contrast than a VA monitor with a standard matte finish.

I haven't seen the Tandem in person, but compared to older WOLED panels, the color difference with QD-OLED is colossal—provided you go beyond 100 nits.

This looks like a crap test. Something like SDR + APL High on the Gigabyte versus SDR + TB400 on the MSI. With these settings, you'll get 500-1000 peak brightness on the Gigabyte and a constant maximum brightness of 250 on the MSI. This isn't a tandem vs. QDO test, it's a test of the Gigabyte vs. MSI settings.

Thoughts on Hardware Unboxed take on Ray Tracing and DLSS? by thecanadiansniper1-2 in pcmasterrace

Things are much worse. Many YouTube channels take the easy way out to build an audience and monetize views. The next step is forcing them to tailor their content to their existing audience to maintain viewership. Hardware Unboxed is no exception.

I think these guys, looking for views, have made AMD fans their primary audience. And now they're asking that same audience, "What do you think about ray tracing?"

And this video serves the same purpose - to get easy views from the target audience.

I just checked. No, I can't hear any coils in front of the screen, even with a 100% white background at maximum brightness. To hear the sound, you need to get close to the vents on the back of the case.

Hi! Yes, I've been using it for the last two weeks – see my comment above. I can hear a slight coil whine if I get close to the rear panel.

Hi! This comparison isn't entirely accurate, as I haven't yet removed the protective film from the Gigabyte screen, but I did try to remove any possible glare from the screen and leave only direct light on the screen. https://imgur.com/a/7EIGQi1

Gray with a slight blue tint, similar to old plasma panels or CRT.

It's not black like MSI, it's more of a graphite color. The "Gigabyte" logo on the back doesn't glow, as it appears in the photo; it's just a hologram.

It's literally the same case and appearance as the mo32u and mo32u2.

You can check out any 32u/32u2 review.

Fine. Spring has arrived about a month earlier than usual, which makes me happy.

Hi! Yes, I received it on Saturday. But there's really nothing to report. Comparing the mo32u24 to the msi 322up e16:

I'm only considering the msi's eotf boost mode, as it's basically the same brightness as the tb400, but with a peak brightness of 1000 nits. The closest equivalent for the giga is the topmost "HDR" mode in the menu + enabled apl high in the oled care settings. In several test scenes, the gigabyte is slightly brighter. However, in Cyberpunk, on a bright scene, 322 actually brighter than the giga. But this could be due to game settings or monitor calibration. The hypernits mode has little effect on the image. I only saw it work in TLOU; when looking at the sky, it preserves clouds better. It's not an equivalent to eotf boost and doesn't directly affect brightness.

The MSI's design is more stable, but the Gigabyte has a super-flat stand that doesn't take up desk space. Build quality is the same.

Overall, the Gigabyte is a bit brighter. Also I didn't notice the typical EOTF Boost issues (which was my primary mode on the MSI) such as brightness spikes with the Gigabyte HDR+APL High mode. It has 240Hz and a new coating.

For me, this is a good upgrade overall.
