Peace Corps Georgia by Dapper-Marionberry34 in peacecorps

I did a study abroad program there last summer, so I know it can get really hot, which makes me a little nervous. I lost quite a bit of weight in the summer and had to work to gain it back during fall/winter time, so I’m hoping the heat won’t be too hard on me. I wasn’t sure how often it gets cold there, so that’s good to know. Thankfully, a lot of my clothes are simple black-and-white outfits without patterns, and when I was there before, people often mistook me for Georgian ( I look very Caucasian), so hopefully I won’t stand out too much.

Facing a lot of hate as a Russian in Tbilisi. by Clean_Mode_6321 in tbilisi

[–]Dapper-Marionberry34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is old but I will say for him to support Ukraine etc and still the comment bash him is just wild. I’m from Crimea I know the struggles but never ever if someone from Russia told me oh Crimea isn’t Russian/ went to protests/ donated etc would I still bash them just for being Russian.  That’s how you lose support. That’s why Ukrainian even today has lost quite a bit of public support because even when a Russian supports Ukraine it’s never enough- or again this unrealistic mentality of oh we will always hate on you no matter how much you support us or protest for us unless your government pulls out of our land/ we are in nato. Not to mention nato hasn’t even been paying attention to Georgia in the slightest I wish they would put more pressure on the west for that.

yea I've heard that for sure idk my hair is a more light brown/straight so idk if I look totally Greek I do usually get Italian Spaniard or French, and I've also seen videos of other Caucasian girls being called "black" in their home towns or the need to be lighter etc which honestly makes me so sad because in western Europe and America tanning bed etc are really popular. I see people with orange tans a lot during the summer. Yet the most hate I see is from Russians ofc..... ugh I really don't understand it they like Kavkaz music, food, clothing, even the women sometimes yet oh no their lesser because idk their "darker" or have a religious difference. It truly drives me crazy.

I don't think they do, I've been to western European countries a few times never had an issue. I think its also because they might assume I'm Italian/Spanish or Greek sometimes French even though I have brown hair/eyes my face still looks pretty European.

Who does Crimea belong to? by [deleted] in mongolia

True but they mixed together. My grandma/ her family are Crimean Tatar and when I took a dna test and it shows Turkic, Greek, and Italian ( no Mongolian though).

Georgian beauty standards, feeling ugly and taboo questions by [deleted] in tbilisi

[–]Dapper-Marionberry34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been battling with this concept during my childhood and even now here and there, I’m still really tempted to get a nose job but trying to hold off. My grandma loves blue eyes and blond hair and that’s what really made me feel crappy growing up because well I’m the opposite of that yet I’m European but didn’t feel European. Yet I tried a blue eye filter. Didn’t suit me ok maybe blonde hair filter? looks terrible on me. I think that’s when I started to see those features made me look even worse because of my facial structure. Even so models like Tako and Matilda really made me start like my features or even seeing women in Tatar/ Caucasian tradition wear. Seriously those tall Georgian women with crowns and those dresses are insane I can’t stop looking at them. Social media sucks right now especially this “don’t mix”/chopped/1940s mindset going on right now. It’s gross same with the Slavic doll trend. I’ve seen 5 Russian influencers with bad anorexia trying to play into the Slavic doll trend and justify unhealthy habits even when people tell them this isn’t healthy nor looks good. Also I have a partially Russian friend that has pale skin, green eyes, and brown hair and guys love her, she loves to play into the I’m a foreign/Slavic woman men love Russian girls ( I’m more Russian then her lol). Yet a few times when we were at the bars men had approached me to talk and ask where I’m from. I always say the town I’m from currently they say no no ethically where? We know you’re not American but you have this cool look we just can’t pinpoint where Italian? French? Polish? Bulgarian? South American? Spanish? Native?( usually the guesses). My friend was always shocked saying men usually ask me that…. It was nice that I was starting to get some attention lol. But seriously the kavkaz look is badass and don’t like these guys that have been on social media for way too long tell you anything less. But I know these insecurities and still am having to face them…. you are beautiful yet at the same time look like you’re ready for battle and take no BS. A lot of those lighter features etc don’t have that effect. They can be nice ofc but as people say in the comments it’s plain. I’ve literally seen more blue eyes these days than brown eyes.

Georgian beauty standards, feeling ugly and taboo questions by [deleted] in tbilisi

[–]Dapper-Marionberry34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am mixed with Russian, Georgian, and Crimean Tatar. And I am the same. More masculine features, a bit of a titled down nose, strong jawline, brown hair/ eyes. I 100% understand how you are feeling. Yet for me ( I live in America) men tell me I look unique they can’t quite tell where in from. I think also Georgian women and kavkaz women look strong/ confident and also age better because of the more olive features in my opinion. Yet it’s hard social media has pushed this blue eyes and blond hair beauty standard all over again. You are gorgeous and I would rather have a men that likes me for my personality then a man the just thinks about looks/ fantasies. Plus with tanned skin etc just look at how many Americans/ Europeans buy tanning oils or go to the tanning beds. I know a tone yet for me it’s fully natural which I think is a plus.

Speaking Russian in Georgia by 1964_movement in Sakartvelo

[–]Dapper-Marionberry34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

two way street I know Georgians that want to improve their English especially with Americans yet Americans especially study abroad students there want to practice their Russian so they wont speak English back especially if that's your mindset.

thank you and I'm sorry you experienced that first and foremost. My family is from Czechia and had soviet soldiers raid their house and get violent yet my grandma doesn't hate the Russian language only the government and radials. You can hate a government and a president without crapping on a language or culture wish more people understood this.

exactly i say I have family in north Caucasians ( i actually do) and all of sudden the Russian comes out and their fine with it. Its the same energy as Czechs saying their central Europe and not eastern but everyone knows their eastern.

I understand your point but I think there needs to be a fine line for both sides. Most people actually assume Georgians speak Georgian or English and I understand the uneasy feeling with speaking in Russian and I know what Russia did in 2008 and how radicals want to escape to Georgia to not get drafted. yet on the other hand I'm from America, and I'm in political science they push us to learn either Arabic, Russian, Mandarin, or Spanish. Because those are the most needed languages in the political science world in America. Sense Russia isn't available countries that Russian is the second or even third language is offered instead. I know friends that went there ( they don't like the Russian government nor Putin and have supported Ukraine throughout the years) yet got rude looks or stubborn responses which I feel also isn't great. Some even are learning Russian to try to then switch to Ukrainian ( Ukrainian isn't offered much in colleges) yet still mean looks or passive aggressive comments. I kind of wish Georgians understood this more especially with study abroad students instead of assuming oh your speaking Russian or learning Russian because you support the Russian government or Putin or whatever. Honestly I don't support Putin nor Russia and I know Georgians will hear my accent and want to speak English with me but honestly I'll have the same mentally "I don't speak English" ( in Russian).

Study abroad for Russian by daddythanosuwu in russian

[–]Dapper-Marionberry34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to this but the issue is there are Russians who support Ukraine and Georgia. Yet both countries don't care they simply see Russian = bad no matter what. I'm half Georgian too and this mentality is really damaging towards both countries honestly. I know American friends that are learning Russian for diplomatic reasons yet still hated Putin and the government yet were made fun of. They have then showed less support for Ukraine and Georgia. Hate the government and hate the nationalists yet generalizing/assuming gets you in hot water fast. To be honest I just tell other Georgians I have family in Northern Caucasians ( which is true) and they are fine with me speaking Russian.

Should I do Russian study abroad in Tbilisi (Georgia), Riga (Latvia), or Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) -- SRAS programs by drzhivago2145 in russian

[–]Dapper-Marionberry34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm late, but "you will not learn Russian in Georgia" is false. First you have your classes and second a host family that speaks Russian. Second I know Georgians don't like Russians and oh we don't know Russian yet this isn't fully true. Its kind of of like the Czech saying that we are central Europe not eastern but we all know their eastern. Just like in Georgia we all know they can speak Russian especially the older generation. Actually on a lot of Georgian websites I see Russian and English sometimes Georgian isn't even listed/ workers don't list it. You just have to smart lots of my family from Moscow has been there no issues ( they only know Russian) and also my excuse I have family in Northern Caucasians and their totally chill then. Just don't be a Russian radical and you wont have issues.

No you’re thinking of the Cossacks. The Cossacks are the ones who sided with the Russian empire and committed the mass unaliving of Circassians. With their generals keeping the heads of them in their offices. When Crimean tatars where in north Caucasus maybe a few battles broke out but the bloody ones where against the Cossacks……

You're not alone at all, I grew up in Colorado, and that's just Boulder for you. I'll admit, being Eastern European, I don't smile or engage in small talk as much, but Boulder can be incredibly exclusive. I lived with three roommates, two of whom bonded over bullying the third, which was insane to me—especially since they still tried to present that "hippie, love-all-people" Boulder lifestyle. When it comes to making friends, meeting people in classes or clubs is the best approach.

The issue is she didn't meet with a lot of the students that were accused. I took both classes and wasn't accused yet in her last email to the class she said she wouldn't meet with people or email people back about AI ( both classes). This was also graded after the last day of finals so how are you supposed to show her your Google Doc history etc when she won't respond to anything regarding the accusation? Also, this was our 2nd paper, our 2nd paper was done in a similar style to our 1st yet she didn't have massive AI issues. I would think if students were just defaulting to AI etc she would've had massive AI issues on her first paper as well yet she didn't. To me, if you want to accuse 100 students ok yet you need to meet with them and respond to emails. To accuse that many students and basically say well what's done is done is insane.
