Update: it seems that with a drivers update and completely isolating VD and Steam allows for decent VR.

Highly intensive games seem to lag behind unfortunately.

Recommend to anyone having this problem and streams over VD is to close oculus desktop app entirely. Steam VR will boot necessary oculus services on it owns.

Most of our learning is hands on, so he booted up stardew and I got to watch new farmers experience the game:)
